I've lived by a man's code designed to fit a man's world, yet at the same time, I never forget that a woman's first job is to choose the right shade of lipstick. Personally, I resent being tagged "glamour girl". It's such an absurd, extravagant label. It implies so much that I'm not. [William Powell] is the only intelligent actor I've ever met. [on why she would not work with Orson Welles] I can't win working with Welles. If the picture's a huge hit, he'll get the credit and, if it's a flop, I'll be blamed. Carole Lombard -

Political correctness is tyranny with manners. I've played cardinals and cowboys, kings and quarterbacks, presidents and painters, cops and con-men. It's hard living up to Moses. The great roles are always Shakespearean. It's been quite a ride. I loved every minute of it. Charlton Heston -

Is Hollywood the cruelest city in the world? Well, it can be. New York can be like that, too. You can be a Broadway star here one night, and something happens, and then you're out--nobody knows you on the street. They forget you ever lived. It happens in Hollywood, too. What used to get my goat at MGM were comedians like The Marx Brothers or [Bud Abbott] and [Lou Costello], who never worried about the script or the next scene. My God, we ate, slept and dreamed our pictures. Silence is of the gods; only monkeys chatter. Buster Keaton
