FRom "Animal House": "I suggest you start drinking heavily." Young boy reading Playboy when the coed dressed as a bunny crashes thru the window onto his bed: "Thank you God!!!" One of the more subtle gags: When Bluto is watching Mandy Pepperidge topless, a physical reaction to this sight gently pushes him and the ladder he is on away from the house and he rides it to a crash below.

If anyone is considering being the dinner companion of Mr. Creosote from "The Meaning of Life" I have 2 bits of advice: 1. Keep your hands and feet away from his mouth.2. Depart immediately before he eats the "Waffer thin" mint!!!

I think that I would like to be the guest of Addison Dewitt, in the "Cub Room" at "21". I would get the inside dope on all the phonies, the balonies, and the Tonis. I think this would be great, even if I had to also bear the scallion snapping toasts of Margo Channing and Bill Sampson. If this makes no sense to you, you DEFINATELY need to see "All About Eve."

Buster Keaton and Jean Harlow fans in the house?
slappy3500 replied to harlowkeatongirl's topic in General Discussions
For Buster's later appearances, see "Mad Mad Mad Mad World" "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" a VERY funny movie. "He raped Thrace thrice???" and he was also in a coupla those "Muscle-head Beach Blanket Bingo Party Stuffed in a Wild Bikini" type movies with Harvey Lembeck as that resident intellectual "Baron Von Zipper."and his imortal philosophy of "You Stupid!!!" Did I mention that Annette and Frankie were in these things too? ...well never mind.... -

"Tastes great!" ...."Less filling!" -
Fail Safe was close to real time but not quite. 3 Scenes show that. 1. The Bull fight dream sequence which took place early that morning. 2.The scene where Gen. Bogan picks up Col. Cassio at his parent's apt. 3. The scene where Evelyn Wolff tries to seduce Prof Grotescele (also early that morning. These scenes all took place b4 the characters were in place PLUS the 3 hrs + that the fdlkight to Moscow would have taken. But id DOES have a 'realtime' feel.

Leo, was your reference to Ben Afflect as Ben Afflict a Fruedian slip or a clever riposte? I can add Brad Armpitt and A Dumb Sandler...

Charles (Spencer) Chaplin: Cinemas Ultimate Genius!
slappy3500 replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
My favorite Chaplin bit is the one where he sticks forks into the long dinner rolls and then dances them around on the table in front of him as though they were little feet.I don't think I could dislike this guy personally,if I tried to. Well maybe if I could if he was the one who ruined AMC... -
My wife has a bad back too, so I understand the constant, nagging agony which can wreak havoc with your mood. Now that we know, if ya get mad again we can say oops, Lady M's back is actin' up again.

Aways loved the Willie Stark line: "We're going to soak the fat boys and spread it out real thin!"

A little-seen Jean Hagen film is "Panic in the Year Zero": well worth a look. The premise of the film is : a typical American family goes on vacation pulling their trailer. While on the road, a Conelrad broadcast (remember Conelrad?" informs them that the nation has undergone a nuclear attack. The parents, then decide to head for the mountains, to try to survive. "PAnic" features Ray Milland as the father, Jean Hagen as the mother ,and Frankie Avalon as one of the 2 teen-age children. Thoughtful, well acted film which consideres the question of what people might do in order for their family to survive, and how tough a person's core morality is. It also asks the question : How much of civilization is a veneer and how much of itcan we shed and still remain decent human beings. This film has no special effects and NO RADIATION-CAUSED MUTANTS. Well worth a look if you get the chance.

So much complaint about great special effects! Great special effects ENHANCE a movie...they don't make it. Granted, "Toy Story" would not have been as big a blockbuster w/o the Pixar CG but it was called "Toy STORY". What made it endearing were the characters, script, and acting. "Star Wars" suceeded for the same reasons. Look at how it's clone "Battlestar Gallactica" (or as well denigraters called it "Rattletrap Gallaxitive") tanked. It had the special effects but no heart. Look at the "God father" movies. Loaded with violence and foul language...but they got accross some hard truths about the Mafia as well as being among the best films Hollywood has ever produced. Look at "Pearl Harbor" it has the best special effects I've ever seen in a war movie (and I am a WWII buff) yet it is a TERRIBLE movie and did NOT do well at the box office. The 3 main problems you see in a bad film are 1. BAD WRITTING 2. BAD Writting, 3.BAD WRITTING> -
Bansi I agree about "Clash by Night". LOved how he was so amused by Earl "Imitating Chinese. Also catch the ORIGINAL "Angels in the Outfield." His "Duffy" is irresistable.

Sorry if I gave the impression that the Sandler remake ruined it for me. I haven't even seen it. What I was refering to were the imitators from the 40's, 50's and 60's. Apparently Sandler is determined to do remakes now....First "Mr Deeds" now "the Longest Yard." Enought to put ya right off yer popcorn...

Worst: "I Spit on Your Grave"

3 examples from the 3 Stooges: Moe playing Hitler loses his mustache: "Hey buddy, gimmee back my personality. Thanks" Larry: "Just my TYPE....a WOMAN!!! Curley:" How DARE you hit me in the head? You know I'm not normal. Get past the eyes pokes, folks. Heh heh heh.
-
Bansi I couldn't agree more! Gunnery Sgt Hartman was a film legend.
-
Great film....Cliff Robertson's debut, one of Holden's best performances... KIm Novak: stunning... Susan Strasberg: cute and endearing.... Rosalind Russell:was she ever better?...and a great supporting turn by Arthur O'Connel.

I am one of those people who think that the French DESERVE Jerry Lewis ("Hey LADY!!"). But I also believe that "The Nutty Professor" is a masterwork. And it's hard to find a better performance than Lewis' self parody as Jerry Lester in "The King of Comedy".

I'm glad no one took my "Deeds" comments to be a denigration of the great Frank Capra. Comedy is SO delicate an art. Once the punchline has been heard, no re-telling of the joke, however skillful, can ever pack the same humor. I'm just sad that I saw this courtroom scene first as done by an imitator. Coop's wit was so dry, (see "Sgt York") that I am sure that "Deeds" would be a favorite with me had it not been "spoiled".
-
Last night was my first viewing of this Frank Capra classic. It must have been thouroughly copied over the years because I found it to be corny and extremely predictable. Some movies do not age well because they have been copied by countless other films. "Psycho" leaves some people unimpressed (I'm NOT one of them!) simply because by 2004 there are no suprises in it. (Who hasn't at least seen a clip of the shower scene?) I once had a girlfriend who wanted to see "Deep Throat" because of all the controversy during it's initial release. No matter how many times I explained to her that she wouldn't "get it" because the erosion of a million xxx features she wanted to see it anyway. Guess what? Her reaction was "What was all the fuss?" I told her she hadda "be there".
-
Well Bansi I'm sure you'll be "delighted" to know that "The Longest Yard" is being re-made... with Adam Sandler.

How would they look? ....Old. What kind of roles would they play? ...Old people Sorry..Just couldn't resist!
