  1. Best: From "Hud": "The look of the country is changed by the kind of men we choose to admire." Delivered by Melvin Douglas after his grandson Lon has just told him that he thinks Grandad was to hard on Hud after HUd says: "OK then what turned yuh sour on me not that I give a damn!" "That's just it. You don't give a damn...you live only for yourself and that makes yuh not fit to live WITH." Worst: At the end "The Killing Fields" after we have been exposed to 2 hrs of utter ruthlessness and brutality by the Khmer Rouge, Sam Waterston as NY Times writter Sidney Shanberg answers a reporter's question about the insanity in CAmbodia by statting something to the effect of: "How much insanity was caused by 20'000 tons of American bombs?" What a cop-out!!! By this reasoning, Hitler's Germany which received infinately MORE bomb tonnage, was justified in IT'S murderous insanity in killing 12 million people (6 million Jews) in death camps. Why try to justify mass- murder by blaming it on previous wrongs? TERRIBLE rationalization!!! But a good insight into how the "Blame America First" crowd operates
  2. Don't forget that Bob Keeshan was also Clarabell the Clown on the Howdy Doody Show.
  3. In "The Day the Earth Ended" Mike Conners was billed as "Touch Conners".... "TOUCH????" And in "House of Wax" Charles Bronson was billed as "Charles Buchinsky". Anyone else know of any others?
  4. "I am Adison Dewitt,nobody's fool...least of all YOURS!"
  5. I can't give the release date but I saw a trailer for it when I saw "Gothica".

Just my opinion, but for people who have received so much adoration, acclaim and financial rewards, stars, as a group, appear to be a rather impolite, bitter, coterie. Some of them also appear to be skinflints as well. See Bitterwaitress.com. Of course this is just a generalization, but the regular folks I interact with seem to be much nicer.
  7. stlgal, I don't follow your analogy. These folks bought the rights to Casino Royale and the film was marketed as a James Bond film. Spike Tv has nothing at all to do with Spike Lee. Nearly everyone who went to Casino Royale expected it to be a James Bond film. NOT a TWO James Bond film! David Niven AND Woody Allen as 007! YUCK-O!!!!!
  8. PS The Casino Royale folks didn't even USE the story: just the title to lure in a pre-sold fandom. I HATE this practice!!! If you want to film your own movie, film it and let it succeed or fail on it's own merits: don't buy a well-known title just for media buzz and a hard-core audience of fans who will hate the film for misleading them. Here's another example: The producers of "Josie and the Pussycats" wanted to just do a movie about a girl band and admitted that they had no intention of being faithful to the concept. While I am not a fan and have never seen the film,I empathise with the "Josie" fans who were not only cheated by THIS film, but now have virtually NO chance of EVER seeing a "Josie" film made.
  9. My personal choice for most underated film is "The Flight of the Phoenix" which is on nobody's list. There is a very convincing story of a plane crash in the desert and totally convincing portayals of various human reactions to the suvival crisis. Among the stand-out performers:Jimmy Stewart, in a rare non-sympathetic role, Richard Attenborough, and Hardy Kruger.Well worth a look if you haven't seen it.
  10. Cinemetal, you are certainly entited to your opinion, but personally, Sam Fuller films make me feel a bit unclean after I watch them. I find them unwholesome and depressing.
  11. This topic was suggested to me by Dott in another thread. Casino Royale is a textbook case of how idiocy often reigns in Hollywood. First, why would someone spend the money to get a 007 property and then NOT make a 007 film? This piece of filth is never included in any Bond film anthologies because it is just a stupid, witless, "spoof" of Bond, which clearly doesn't understand it's own source material well enough to make even a passable pretext of parody. To see a REAL parody of Bond watch The "Our Man Flint" movies or the "Austin Powers" film. Second, because the jerk(s) who hold the copyright, have held onto the rights for nearly 40 years! Thus a "real" 007 version of this well-written Bond novel has never been made. I guess these greedy sobs are hoping for a HUGE killing. Well, the Bond series has gotten along w/o it and will for many years to come. The only loser is the Bond fan. To the idiots who hold the copyright: if you had accepted a reasonable offer 40 years ago you could have banked the money and now have 40 years compounded interest on it!
  12. Dott I think you are thinking of the very talented Eileen Heckart. Also Paul Newman did a very fine, utterly believable drunk. Catch the subtlty of his gradual drunkeness in the opening scene of "The Hustler" while he plays Minnesota Fats, and SEVERAL drunk scenes in "Hud" ranging from rowdy to mean and nasty. He is one of the few worthy successrs to Bogey, Tracy and Fonda.
  13. The "beautiful woman" was "Capucine" -no last name, who was really hot in Euro-films for about 15 minutes. (See also: Cantinflas, Gina Lollibrigida.)
  14. "Are you unpoopular? Do you pop out at parties?...Then get yourself a great big bottle of....this stuff." With all the political correctness, I'm afraid that someday soon we will lose Lucy because of the way she made fun of Ricky's accent. Someone will have some " 'Splainin' to do."
  15. Ever annoyed by chasing those pesky peas around your plate? I learned how to solve this problem from Curly: simply take a gob of mashed potatos on your fork and mop up the little beggars! Works with corn too. Warning: do not do this in polite company or you will not be invited to Mrs. Gottrocks next soiree' at the hotel Costa Plenty.
  16. One of my faves for (tipsy, smashed, polluted) from the 3 Stooges: "Don't chop the wood mother; father's coming home with a load."
  17. ML, if TCM could take the hit they did with "Bollywood" I think they could spare ONE day for cartoons and shorts. "Good idea!"
  18. Classics, I think this answers your question exactly. After seeing Burt Reynolds in "Deliverance" I always liked him. He very seldom lived up to the potential he showed with that performance, but I've always liked him personally ever since.
  19. After hitching a ride with the cook from a diner, Starman accepts a cigarette... which causes him to go into a violent coughing fit. Never fails to get a laff.
  20. FRom John Carpenter's version of "The Thing": After seeing the horrendous apparition of the Thing as it takes off after killing all the sled dogs, Kurt Russel asks Clark (Richard Masur) "What the hell was that?" Clark: "I don't know ,but it was WEIRD and ****-off!"
  21. Was that a not-so-subtle hint that my hints were putting her to sleep?
  22. Not a comedy. bye Hint#3 Buddy Ripperton stabed his yogurt with a switch knife.
  23. Sorry Stl that was a "no" . As you could maybe tell from hint#2
