  1. Oliver Twist? And she is SO my type...refined yeah, that's it!
  2. David Copperfield and By the way Jane's # is unlisted.
  3. Johnny: "Look! There's one of them NOW!" Barbra: "You're ignorant!"
  4. Not quotes but a few memorable visuals: the "Family Truckster" from "Vacation", Capt. Over reading "Modern ****" magazine in the airport newstand in "Airplane", the last wall of the gas station collapsing after Pike (Jonathon Winters) backs into it with the tow truck in "MAD...World", the billboard with SAC's motto "Peace is Our Profession" as the bullets fly at Burpleson Air Force Base in "Dr Strangelove."
  5. Another thing I'm sick of is the "novelty" of turning reality on it's head. Is there any doubt that the 100 lb spandex-clad female will utterly destroy 15 or 20 well-built men? Ho Hum...That the group of misfits will triumph over the enevitably evil "normal kids"? That the smart-a$$ children have all the brains and common sense and that the parents and teachers are idiots? That is the reason why when Indiana Jones SHOOTS the sword-wielding bad guy instead of engaging him in some sort fancy combat with his whip, the audience cheers and laughs. A refreshing moment of REALITY! I think the crowd would go wild if in a film, the parent unplugs the little monsters' x-box and tells him "Shut up and do your homework!!!"
  6. LOL STLgal! And for all WE know...that might have been a GOOD day for them. Maybe on thursdays "get the guests" means they actually do them bodily harm!BTW Benny Hill did a brilliant routine playing both Liz And Dick. Liz says "I use Ponds." Dick says "So does a DUCK." SMACK! Vase broken over Dick's head.
  7. GReat topic STLgal! Smoke the GD cigarette!!! Eat the GD food!!!! I HATE it when someone takes one drag and tosses the cigarette. Smokers NEVER do this! Stop moving the food around your plate and putting the fork in it 47 1/2 times. Also the kick in the crotch is way, WAY overused. Should be relegated with the slippery bannana peel, the pie in the face, and the pants/dress falling down. Is anyone else sick of the "good" team winning the big game ... by ONE point or run? Do they ALWAYS have to win? Is nothing EVER learned by losing a game? Does anyone notice that in solving any crime it will become nesicary at some point in the investigation to visit a strip club? Just a few of mine.
  8. Stlgal you are absolutely on the mark with Blocbuster! I haven't visted one in 10 years even though I have one in walking distance. They did away with classics, foreign films, cult favorites and those wonderful odd-ball selections. Replaced by video games and soda & snacks. I pointed out to the manager that since there was a 7-11 across the street (which is a lot cheaper anyway) it was a waste of valuable space to devote so much room to snacks. Now Blockbuster really lives up to it's name.... thousand copies each of the latest (drek) releases. If these films appeal to me I SEE THEM IN THE THE THEATRE, like they were MEANT to be seen!
  9. Yeah, the drive-in. Saw a BUNCH of classics there(and DIDN'T fall asleep). Saw "Hud" "A Walk on the Wild Side" "Goldfinger" "Dr Strangelove" "Cleopatra" "The Days of Wine and Roses" "How the West Was Won"....Except for "Goldfinger" these are films I probably wouldn.t have gone to on my own.
  10. I remember seeing news footage of a group of nitwit football players who re-created the "lay down in the middle of the street on the white dividing line at night" from "The Program". The reporter asked one of these future brain surgeons why they did it. He replied "Well, I wouldn't do it AGAIN." Gee all it took was witnessing the painful death of a team mate to convince him that this was not too bright! Another group of geniuses were the girls who decided to re-enact the coke bottle rape scene from "Born Innocent" on a poor girl in the shower of the locker room. Anyone else recall news stories about folks too clueless to be allowed to watch anything more intense than "Sunrise Sermon"?
  11. I guess the age of creative and obviously phony screen names is over. No more "Rip Torn"s or "Slim Pickens". BTW on "The Berverly Hillbillies", Dash Riprock's "real" name was Homer Noodleman....and Granny was aghast that someone would change such a "nice name." Oddly enough one of Jethro's (Max Baer) many professions was "Big Hollywood Producer." One of the requirements for this was to have "lots of stooges and flunkies." "C'mon stooges and flunkies, let's see what's for lunch in the commisary!" Is it more than coincidence that Max Baer is now a big Hollywood producer? Wonder how many stooges and flunkies he has?
  12. Sounds wonderful Paty. Here's a little tidbit they might not have mentioned. When Shirley Jackson was writing the novel, she went to the library to look at photos of old creepy houses to help insprire her. One picture stood out and gave her the creeps and a lot mood for the novel. Later, when she showed her mother the picture, it turns out that her great uncle BUILT the house. Or as the Crypt Keeper would say: "Heh, heh, heh."
  13. Thanx Movieslover. Rats! NOBODY ever shows this great film and it's even in color! Much as I love certain films, there are a few that get WAY to much play. In 1997, I counted 17 different times "It's a Wonderful Life" was shown in the course of a weekend. TBS seemed to have a weekly showing of "The Breakfast Club" and why don't they re-name AMC "The Jaws Channel"?
  14. Does TCM have the rights to "Inferno" starring Robert Ryan, Rhonda Fleming and William Lundigan?
  15. If you haven't seen the original "Haunting" from 1963, be sure to catch it on TCM this month. Fine cast (Julie Harris, Claire Bloom, Russ Tamblyn) excellent low-key performances, and a screen play based on Shirley Jackson's superb novel "the Haunting of Hill House. No big effects, just a steady, unrelenting escalation of suspense and horror that is chilling because of its understated believability.
  16. Can you believe it? I have never seen "Arsenic & old Lace". No reason either.
  17. The Bowery Boys in "Dig That Uranium"? LOL not a REAL guess so someone else can take a shot.
