10, 9, 8, 7, 6,... ONLY A FEW MORE HOURS BEFORE THE CHAMP IS OUT! Totally ignored by TCM... They really DON'T want us to watch this one in it's entirety ON-DEMAND.... Just a "teaser." Why even list it there at all???

DAY SEVEN, AND THE CHAMP IS DOWN FOR THE FINAL COUNT! Still less than half a movie available ON-DEMAND!
-
I used to notice that type of problem only sporadically (every few months), but appears to be occurring with greater frequency of late. I likely do not catch it every time it happens, but did both last and this month (Jan & Feb 2018). In Jan. WINGS OF DESIRE had about a third of the movie lopped off when attempting to view it ON-DEMAND, and this month (Feb.) the 1931 version of THE CHAMP was cut in half. Does no real good to inform a MOD and TCM about it here though, as I've observed that nothing "corrective" has ever come from that. Our mutual "complaining" does have the positive effect of letting us viewers know what is (and isn't) happening, and informs us that we are not alone in the experience (that is when the Moderator allows our threads and posts to remain "undeleted"). But aside from that, our concerns over such issues appear to fall upon "deaf" ears and "blind" eyes when it comes to prompting any remedial action from TCM. Pretty overall sad state of affairs I think....

DAY 7 AND THE CHAMP NEVER WAS GIVEN A CHANCE BY TCM ON-DEMAND TO SHOW HIS STUFF! This "problem" was NEVER corrected AND apparently COMPLETELY IGNORED by TCM and staff! Nice, isn't it that "they" take their positions so seriously and show us how much "they" really care about these movies, and our concerns.... (meant most facetiously)

DAY SIX, AND COUNTING DOWN... THE CHAMP IS ALMOST OUT OF TIME FOR A COMEBACK! Just can't keep your finger off of that DELETE key, can you! Thank you!

Whew, for a minute there I thought this was going to be another obituary/tribute thread...

speedracer5 said: My favorite part of the whole production: Pretty sure that is Lili on Errol's left (our right) Actually, it looks like the same plaid overshirt in both images, and if you zoom in at the collar you can see the hint of a white turtleneck. I bet they were taken at the same time. And that certainly does look like Rita... after she began dying her dark hair red. (seems like all those moguls had a thing for red headed babes back in the day!) Errol Flynn was reportedly 6' 1 1/4 " tall whereas Rita Hayworth was reportedly 5' 6" tall (I know she seemed to be taller in many films because Fred and others she danced with were not all that tall, and she usually wore heels. However, such photographic depth of field/perspective distortions of size are not unusual, especially with wider angle lens' close-up to the foremost subject. (in this case the camera was held sideways, for a vertical shot, the photographer was much closer to Flynn than to Rita). When I worked in AK we used to make such photos all the time with pocket cameras that most of us carried. Making the bear (in the foreground) appear to be ever more larger and fearsome than the hunter in the slight background. Same tricks used with moose, deer, and trophy fish, etc. Actually anything that made a "mighty outdoorsman" appear to be ever moreso, generally for bragging rights to his less outdoorsy less camera wary friends. Perspective Distortion For example, if you photograph a person with an ultra wide angle lens up close, their nose, eyes and lips can appear unrealistically large, while their ears can look extremely small or even completely disappear from the image. Take a look at the following photo photographed with the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G lens at 27mm: NIKON D700 + 24-70mm f/2.8 @ 27mm, ISO 200, 1/250, f/8.0 Look at the size of his head – it appears disproportionately large relative to his body. His eyes, nose and lips are very much enlarged, while his ears are dwarfed. And this was only at 27mm! You can imagine what it would look like if the photographer got closer to his face or used a wider lens at a shorter distance. Take a look at the following photograph of a red car: Okay, now check out this one, a typical proud hunter shot. That Bear looks like King Kong next to that guy just a foot or so behind it. Here's one with a Pleistocene Epoch Moose rack! Okay, this one is not for the squeamish, but it better illustrates the distortion that can be achieved at a mere arms length. These are all less classy examples of the kind of artsy perspectives that CG and Tiki wrote about in their posts (in your now deleted thread) regarding the classical masters and their works of art and why some body parts were made to appear deliberately larger (or smaller) from a viewers perspective. -

Thanks Limey, I have never heard or read the book/s (or seen any of the movie adaptations), but looks like something that I'd be interested in. Cider with Rosie (1959) by Laurie Lee https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cider_with_Rosie Cider with Rosie is a 1959 book by Laurie Lee (published in the US as Edge of Day: Boyhood in the West of England, 1960). It is the first book of a trilogy that continues with As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning (1969) and A Moment of War (1991). It has sold over six million copies worldwide. The novel is an account of Lee's childhood in the village of Slad, Gloucestershire, England, in the period soon after the First World War. It chronicles the traditional village life which disappeared with the advent of new developments, such as the coming of the motor car, and relates the experiences of childhood seen from many years later. The identity of Rosie was revealed years later to be Lee's distant cousin Rosalind Buckland.[2][3][4] The book/s are available at https://www.amazon.com/Cider-Rosie-Nonpareil-Book-Laurie/dp/1567923550 Also made into a movie (thrice)... In 1971, Directed by Claude Whatham In 1998, Cider with Rosie is a British television film of 1998, Directed by Charles Beeson, with Laurie Lee (the author) as Narrator Can stream the 1998 movie on YouTube here 2015 movie version available for streaming here and https://movienightseries.com/movies/id/609025/Cider-With-Rosie-2015.pl -
Who else loves the old Ken Murray Hollywood Home Movies?

Likely not (though I'd have to look again to be sure) Errol was such a Ladies Man, he's been caught cavorting with any number of women. That's one of the reasons he and Lili used to "fight" so much about! -
Yeah, if I were a regular at the Colosseum back in those days, no doubt my thumb would be perpetually up at the end of each event! But here I do post a "Sad" and "Confused" Reaction every now and then. Now though, I know that I must learn to be a little more frugal and discretionary with ALL my Reactions around here.

Well, when you put it like that, there might be much to be said about "Vanishing" into the corn field... I remember when I was back on my grandparents farm during my rambunctious teenage years, me and the country girl next door headed out to the cornfield late one summer afternoon and.... Oh well, perhaps I'd better keep that one to myself. -
It wasn't me (at least not this time). I stopped posting (or attempting to REACT) to anything here since yesterday morning. For well over 24 hours. I just now attempted to quick link to Christine's quote response to a post of mine in the now VANISHED thread when I discovered that ALL ACCESS to that thread was denied! Well, since I did not see all of the posts made yesterday I guess I can't exactly rule myself out either. I can get kinda H.S. childish at some times.... so maybe??? Like someone said about Lorna's FFMN thread that got tossed into the "cornfield," maybe the Mod was away and just hadn't read through the entire thread yet. Both Lorna and Speedracer's threads became very quickly "popular" around here! Gosh, I hope it wasn't that little ditty about "peter" that I posted following Tiki's post about that dickumentary she watched???? That was my last post there, and when I discovered that I was denied the ability to make a "HaHa" Reaction to her post.

Nope Sepia, I was using my old faithful PC... I'm not tech savvy enough yet to employ such devices as "Smart Phones" "IPads" and the like. And I am fearful of having an eavesdropping "Smart TV" (that thinks it's smarter than I am) around that I may not be able to effectively "lobotomize." But I do see that after no further posting or attempts at making any REACTIONS to anyone else's posts around here that the ability to actually make those REACTIONS has been restored to me. I can only assume that there is in fact a daily REACTION cap here that I must have reached, which (in my case) failed to inform me of such. And it appears to be a 24 hour Cap.... If this is an accurate assessment, then it would be nice if we were all made aware of what our REACTION limit actually is, with perhaps some counter, so that we could monitor ourselves and avoid being confused about this (as I was). I am wondering what exactly could be the purpose of such a REACTION Cap Limit in the first place??? Anyone have any ideas about that??? In the meantime, now that I am aware that it exists... I'm going to be more careful on who and when I make any sort of a "Reactionary" response to, to avoid a repeat performance! Thanks All for attempting to help me "troubleshoot" this strange phenomenon.

Haha, Great song. Nice tribute, to a "fan" who has decided to leave us, but will not be forgotten.... For a "longtime" around here.
-
Well, I am indeed perplexed. Still not allowing me to post any "reactions" and I can't think of what else to try? I will wait 24 hrs, just in case, but I doubt that will make a difference. If you come up with any additional suggestions between now and then, please let me know here. I may end up just making an actual post for future "Reactions" (but far fewer than I would otherwise). We'll see.... Thanks all, for trying to help me "brainstorm" this little thing!

Boy in "Safe Mode" everything turned into a slug. Kept seeing a message that my browser was slowing things down, No Sh*t. But still unable to "React" to anything. I see Thenryb recent "reactions" though. Thanks for checking. Okay, I'm going to try two more things. First the simple reboot. Then, if still no "worky" I'll give it a 24 hour rest break, from Reaction posting. Just in case that quota thing is still there, but just not working like it should. Then if still no worky, and no other suggestions from you fine intelligent fellows, then as a "last resort" I'll ask a Mod for "help." Be back in a few.

Okay, I'm not seeing anything like that. Well, I just tried a little experiment. First Refreshed, then closed and reopened my browser. No change. Still been using Firefox 57.0.2 (64-bit), and haven't changed any of my settings (except resetting my Third Party Cookie preferences after I view something ON-DEMAND from TCM). And the browser was allowing me to use post reactions just before they stopped posting. So unless Firefox just automatically changed something (like MS 10 is prone to do) then I don't think that is a factor. But I still have an older version of 32 bit Firefox on board. I will close out and open that one to double check. Be back in a minute.
