  1. You may want to check out imdb and see what they have on her. Last films I saw her in was While You Were Sleeping and the Ref. She was funny in both.
  2. It depends if the term "video" means recorded onto film. I have seen a few very young Bing Crosby singing a song that was to sale him and the tune. In one of them, if I recall he is singing to several girls. Bing at the time was representing the "cool" of the times. Much like todays videos that are produced to promote an artist and the tune, just the attitude and technology are different.
  3. I think my favorite Reeves film was Death Trap.
  4. This sucks. I just saw the show in which he was able to move his lower limbs. It was one of the most inspiring things I had ever seen. I felt that if anyone was going to beat paralysis - it would be Reeves and I would see it in my life time. He left his mark on this world and it's not for his acting - it's for his living it.
  5. That's not Entertainment about the widow news.
  6. They are both great - but I think I would have to go with Miller because I enjoyed her in more films. I too think Vera Ellen would be my number one.
  7. Thanks for the "Stage Door" heads up. I haven't looked at the schedule yet and would have been very upset to miss this one.
  8. I know when a movie is raved about or has a huge following, such as Gone with the Wind, I am usually let down by the time I get the chance to see it (such as GWTW). I guess my expectations are set to high by all the word of mouth and the films can't reach it. This doesn't mean the film was bad - just a let down. Then there are Films such as My Man Godfrey, Holiday, and You Can't Take it With You that I heard little of before I watched them (a lot of raves since) that are on my favorites.
  9. Enchantment with David Nevin & Theresa Wright. Bitter sweet great movie
  10. for the record my wife and I know 3 couples that have lived this movie. The being friends forever before the logical love connection kicked in. In one of the couples we were the Fisher/Bruno couple. Happy to say (knock on wood) they are all (at least 11 years)still married. On the other hand - during the friends part of their relationships - none of these couple would have considered the other their "best" friend until the romance started.
  11. muntiny, if I follow what you are saying it's: You had TCM in your favorites and when clicked on it - it would not come up? If that's so - my favorites still works. If that's not it ignore this.
  12. The thing is the other channels do not show it in letterbox.
  13. As for men, I would say Tom Hanks for one - He's covered the whole spectrum of roles. "Big" to "Philadelphia", "Forest Gump" to "Saving Private Ryan", "Slash" to "Sleepless in Seattle". I just watched "Road to Perdition" and thought he was great as a hitman. From comedy to drama - good guys to bad - he has done it all. Harrison Ford is another who has come out on top in humor, drama, and action films. Though he has not had the trophies - he has the hits.
  14. When this was first posted in August I could not think of one. Noe that it is up again, this came to mind: Irene Dunne as Mama in "I Remember Mama" sitting at the kitchen table "It good, we don't have to go to the bank"
  15. Moira, great post! (Ditto to everyone else who has replied). I like the part of adding that warning to the beginning of films. I have heard this idea before - thank for the reminder.
  16. As for the 50's style, it was a good era. It was probably amplified by a television in appearing in almost every home. Instant live visuals. As far as on film era fashions go - my favorite would probably be the mid 20's to the 30's.
  17. It's cool Ike. I know being a fan of the classics - one sees the evolution of stereotyping in film. There are a lot of new people here that may also be interested in this thread. Us oldies have discussed this on a couple of threads - but feel free to to discuss it here if you like. Some of us oldsters may pass. There is also a Charlie Chan thread at best guess 6-7 months back. For the record - I too have a problem with 3
  18. I've seen 1 1/6 of his films. The first was when I was about 8 or 9 years old. My family was at this multi-screen drive in seeing a disney double feature. On a screen behind us and to the right was playing a Meyer film. Needless to say my dad and I kept getting in trouble for turning our heads. Poor dad was stuck in the front seat with mom - lucky me in the back of the old station wagon out of arms reach. I saw about a 15 minutes of this movie - at that age I was curious and liked the disney film better. The only other film I've seen is the Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. I saw this just this year on the IFC channel. It was one of those films where you know it's not high art but you just can't turn off.
  19. I thought this thread may be the place for this news: Film maker Russ Meyer past away at age 82
