Sorry if I had not welcomed every new poster on the board. I generally, when I realize a person is new, would try to welcome them in. So many times I welcome a new name and find out it's an oldie with a new log in name. Or the new person has posted so many times before I see their name I figure they are already in the swing of things. I even welcomed back the Prof when I noticed he returned since late spring.
Here's a BIG
WELCOME
TO ALL

Ditto here to everyone.
A new Thanksgiving tradition since my daughter was 4 years old (now 10)is going to a movie before the big family get together. Since it's her choice - this year were seeing the Incredibles. After the movie we start preparing our portion of the feast - we are in charge of the mash potatoes and buns (every year)
. By 5:30 we at the table by 5:50 we are belts unbuckled and reclined watching another movie or game. -
Your right, Mongo, I saw that for the first time this year on the Fox Movie Channel. Recorded it at the time and added it to my favorites. Unfortunately it was touching but did not bring the tears. I think it was because I had heard so much about the film over the years that when I finally saw it - it lost some of it's impact.

The Sixth Sense - you know why if you have seen it
Keys of the Kingdom - Peck was great in this
National Velvet - When Mi moves on

I just watched "Lassie Come Home". I had not seen this for awhile. It made me bawl as a kid and tear up today. Another pet film I have not seen in a long time (since I was a kid) that made me cry was disney's "The Incredible Journey".
-
for another clue: Lassie

makes a "reel" film buff is when the words "a$$holes, dumb $hit$, etc, come into play when you hear someone is doing a remake.

-
Phoebe, I'm glad to hear the "Notebook" is a tearjerker.
I have not seen it yet, but now I have something to look forward to. - Thanks
-
This is a bit off the topic but it does have to do with tearjerkers.
If you ever need a dose of tears, watch Extreme Make Over Home Edition. I believe it is on weekly on ABC. This show, more times than not, makes my family tear up.
The basis of this shows is a group of builders and designers totally redo a family in needs home. The effect that these makeovers have on these deserving families is uplifting.

Winchester 73
Harvy
No Highway In the Sky
Flight of the Phoenix

Bogart for the same reason already mentioned: He has more films on my favorites list. I do feel Cagney was more versatile and talented.

Break a leg kid!
-
I thought I heard Moore and Kutcher are now married. I'm not sure though.
-
A recent film they made the tears flow was Whale Rider.

Goodbye Mr Chips

you are probably correct path. But she was actually born in India and was known as Queenie Thompson.

Howard Keel has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid and saw him in Seven Brides & Calamity Jane. It just so happened we had a sort of Howard Keel weekend. This past Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we watched the above films plus Kiss Me Kate. Then on Monday on my way to work they reported his passing. He will be missed but I'll always have "Adam" and "Wild Bill" to look forward to.

most of my list has been mentioned already, but here it goes:
Stanwyck
Arthur
Rogers
O'Hara
A. Hepburn
An Honorable mention because she did basically musicals is Vera Ellen
-
Those would be on my list. A couple I've enjoyed in recent years are Crimson Tide and Down Periscope (guity pleasure)

I just remembered another funny brush. This is an athlete from the past - but funny.
This involved Lenny Wilkens (NBA player, coach, hall of famer). If you recall he spent quite a bit of time in Seattle as a player and coach. Well one day we were at the airport and saw Mr. Wilkens in line to pay for some food. My mother pulls out some paper and has my 6 year old little sister ask for his autograph. Well she goes running over to him, and past him to the white gentleman behind Lenny and real loud asks "Mr. Wilkens, can I have your autograph?"
Mr. Wilkens lost it. He almost doubled over laughing so hard. The man behind him chuckled at my sister and told her "I think you want HIS autograph."
Mr. Wilkens was so cool about it he came over and talked with us until his plane came.

I enjoy the two films equally. Bringing up Baby for Grants and Hepburns zaniness and Philadelphia Story for it's ensemble cast.
ginger: If you like Grant and Hepburn, my favorite film they did together is "Holiday" check it out if you haven't already.

I know exactly what you mean mslady. I missed rerecording The Mad Miss Manton (let someone barrow mine - well you know). Stanwyck and Fonda were great in this "hidden gem" (cuz Lady Eve gets all the props). I kicked myself so hard I called in sick and fantasized about Stanwyck all day

I hope it (Camille) is loveoldmovies, I taped it and hope to watch it soon. Thanks for good props!
