  1. Can you tell us what the film was about? who was in it?
  2. Ike, a film you may want to catch that I enjoyed was her and Henry Fonda's last - "Summer Solstice" It was not a theater release. I don't think she underrated at all. It is kind off hard to call a hollywood legend underrated.
  3. Thomas, once you see Sound of Music, King and I, and Oliver you'll add them to your list. I'm sure you'd add Kiss Me Kate also - I too have never seen this film start to finish. I would add these Disney films: Beauty and the Beast Little Mermaid Lion King Mulan Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
  4. hiking through the woods to a cruise ship? i'm still stumped.
  5. Can you rewrite your first question again? It's hard to know what you want answered. As for the second there are several ways to answer that but it may depend on the what answer you were after in the first question.
  6. thanks, I had noticed this movie on the schedule and have plans to tape it.
  7. path - I think it is okay for the creator of a film to go back and "re-tool or re-edit" his/her work. This does not always make the film better to me but I don't think it's wrong. I have seen director cuts of films which, in the end, I felt the original release was better. But on the other hand what if I saw the directors cut first?
  8. Well then, they must not have, because if venerados - the king of six degrees game can't come up with one I for trust that assumption.
  9. welcome back msladysoul, it's been awhile. I too, like keith, have found favorites in every era of film. I guess if I had to choose it would be the 30's
  10. you may want to ask this question under the information thred. these get answer pretty fast over there if someone knows.
  11. me too. My problem is I wear glasses (can't wear contacts) and the 3D glasses with glasses always looks like TV in the old days. Remember the "ghost" shadows? I have to take a film in shifts - a few minutes with the 3D glasses a few without. Took my daughter to see Spy Kids 3D and had a blast. The only 3D film I saw that made me "flinch" was some western 3D back in the late 70's or early 80's. A spear or arrow came right at you.
  12. cagneydavisfan, so what do you think of "The Bride Came COD"?
  13. Welcome Gracie, As you know by now there is a limited number of films TCM has the rights to. Heartbreaking as that is they are the best and I would not like them to start commercials to generate cash to pay for the rights to show more films (catch 22?). Right now they are able to lease a small number of films without going the commercial route. These are always a thrill to catch and watch for. By the way, what are your likes - actors, films, TCM, etc.?
  14. for a 4th clue "Your in the army now bugs bunny"
  15. oops, sorry for the spelling - I forgot to spell check.
  16. The biggest difference I see is that old movies are - well - old and new movies are - well - new. kidding. There are definate differences between the way films are being made now as to thoughs 80+ years ago and in between. Technology, changing times, and the instant visuals of world around us has had an impact on movie making. For me, all these changes in film, whether it be techincal, attitude, or realism does not matter to me. All that matters is how I feel after seeing the film no matter the era. For every year over the past 80 plus years I have favorites, seen not so classics, and "great" films of those times I don't like. Movies for me, no matter the era, are movies that take me away for 2 hours. I realize that this thread was probably looking for a different direction then I went - so sorry in advance.
  17. You know, grsshrp, you convinced me to check the Grass Harp out. I went to imdb and it seems like movie thats just up my alley. Thanks, i'll let you know once I see it.
  18. Here is my list in no particular order: The reasons are basicly the same - I enjoy most everything I watch them in. Women: Barbara Stanwyck Jean Arthur Ginger Rodgers Myrna Loy Kate Hepburn Audrey Hepburn Men: James Stewart Cary Grant Sydney Poitier Fred MacMurray Jack Lemon Fred Astaire
  19. I know it's not a classic film, but it is from one of my favorite romantic comedeies. In "The Sure Thing" Gib (John Cusack) is checking out a fellow classmate Alison (Daphne Zuniga). Gib asks a friend he's play football with. "What do you think of Alison?" friend "Cute, but she's out of league." Gib "what's that suppose to mean" friend "She smart - you aren't" Gib "hey I'm doing okay" Friend "Man, you're flunking english - your mother tongue!"
  20. moira, I lived in Utah for ten years. And yes, once you get away from the Salt Lake Valley, it's fantastic country. The Wasatch Mountains and the Canyon Lands will take your breath away. If you ever get to Utah skip Salt Lake City and go down south to Moab and the Canyon Lands I promise you will remember it always. The Western Movie hall of fame is also there, by the way. I now live in western Washington (just as breath taking to see country) and the only thing I miss in Utah is the beauty of all that natural land.
  21. This has been wished for before and I hope one day it comes true. Yes, all the fine character actors appear in plenty of movies to fill several days. With all those you mentioned - there is Eddie Arnold, Charles Coburn, Billie Burke etc. Let's hope.
  22. Thanks path! Penthouse for sure is one I won't miss. Never seen this film but sounds like a possible gem.
