Godzilla as an actor has taken on more rolls than King Kong. His wide range from bad guy to hero has brought him international recognition. I'm not sure who he studied under but his PR people are working overtime.
If you recall he even tried to give King a leg up on branching out when he offered him a co-starring (& top billing) roll in "King Kong vs Godzilla". And what did Kong do with this opportunity? He did a remake with Brigdes and Lange. Go figure.
To show how dedicated Godzilla is to his craft - view his US made film "Godzilla" 1998. He hit the gym bulked up to an unrecognizable "ripped hunk". What was also impressive in this roll was he played a female - What range!
Bottomline - If Kong wants a star (and it's not to late) he needs to get off his furry a$$ and take on different rolls. If this means small character parts so be it. Just get out there and work it.

#1 West Side Story: Saw this as a kid and it stayed with me ever since.
The rest in no particular order:
I Remember Mama: My wife asked me to watch with her and it hooked me back into the classics.
Remember the Night: Stanwyck, MacMurray, & Bondi in a road - holiday - love story makes a great little known film.
You Can't Take it With You: This cast and Capra and the message of this film.
Holiday: Grant and Hepburn at their best. (Bring Up Baby is there too - but I can just list 10)
Whale Rider: This film touched me like no other in the past 2 decades.
Beauty and the Beast: Current favorite animation film.
The Apartment: Maclaine and Lemon were so good in this.
To Kill A Mockingbird: Another childhood favorite of mine that I rediscovered as an adult.
Alien: So far the only horror film that made me jump and say "Now that was worth the price of admission

Back to Miss Mayo. One of my favorite pairings (this should also be on the "pairings" thread) is the Kaye - Mayo films. The average joe gets the beauty.
-
There really are too many to list - but my favorite film (musical or not) is West Side Story.
Others:
Oliver!
Easter Parade
My Fair Lady
On The Town
Unsinkable Molly Brown
Meet Me in St louis
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Hello Dolly!
Goodbye Mr. Chips (I know this version gets knocked here compared to the original - but I can't help it - it's one of my favorites.)

I became a fan of Kay Francis because of that roll. It made me want to see her earlier stuff which was excellent.
-
I did like her in that role (Vertigo) but my favorite Novak role is in Bell, Book, and Candle. WOW ;0
-
Some other favorites:
Bing/Kaye - White Christmas
Bing/Astaire - Holiday Inn
Newman/Redford - The Sting & Cassidy
Hepburn/Rogers - Stage Door
O'Conner/Francis - some of the Francis films
Matthau/Lemon - All their pairings
Lemon/Curtis - Some Like it Hot
I can think of quite a few women group (3 or more) films but I can't think of many women pairings that stand out - and I know there were some. Any Ideas? I'll hit myself in the head once I see some suggestions.

#1) Astaire
#2) O'Conner
#3) Kelly

On Bravo (I think) they are currently doing a "100 Scariest Movie Moment Count Down". There had been a few films list that I never heard of that I'm going to have to watch. There were a couple of the Italian film listed (I believe were mentioned on this board) that look pretty good.

I grew up in the 60's. During that time they showed (in Seattle) The Saturday & Sunday afternoon theatre. A double feature of old (pre 60's) films on the old black & white TV. They also had the "Childrens Film Festival" which showed more kid type movies (Shirly Temple, Lassie, etc.). My sisters and just loved these times.
As I became older other interests took over. Then I started dating my wife (one of the other interests). I was over at her house one afternoon and "I Remember Mama" was going to be on. She got so excited and kept saying "Oh we just have to watch this movie!" We did and I never looked back. That was 20 years ago and I'm now here with all of you.

Here is the thread for those who would like to know what was written by the older folks here. Enjoy!

We were at Disneyland on the 16th and rounded a corner at the hotel and ran into Brad Garrett. Yes he is very tall and very nice. But if you ask my daughter this question she'll list about 15 Disney characters.
In the past (at Disneyland again) I talked with Telly Savalas. Saw Arnold Schwarzeneger and Maria Shriver while staying at the same hotel in Cannon Beach (He was filming Kindergarten Cop).
A fun story about Sophia Loren:
The son of a friend is a great college bud with her youngest son. They, the sons, were going to California
for summer break. My friends son to see his girl who had moved there to go to school(they were from Utah) and Sophia's son to their California mansion. Anyhow, the two sons go their separate ways at the airport. As my friends son and his girl friend are waiting for his bags, she breaks up with him. Stating how the boys she has met and the life style in Cal were more exciting.
He, was cool (so he says) and asks if she can drop him off at a friends place. She was shocked he knew someone in town. He made a quick call and and told her let's go.
The look on her face when they pull up infront of this huge mansion and Sophia come running out and gives him a huge family type hug. He said he turned to the ex and said "thanks for the ride - I'll be just fine.
From what he said of Sophia and her family puts her on my list of great people. With everything they have, he said they were a tight family and very down to earth.

Jean Arthur, and I'd ask her if she wouldn't mind if Barbara Stanwyck also hung out with us.
-
you are not alone here. If you look up a few old threads where people had listed their ages, you'll find a good number under the age of 21. You are always at home here.
-
You may want to check out imdb and see what they have on her. Last films I saw her in was While You Were Sleeping and the Ref. She was funny in both.

Here is an oldies list

The movie you are thinking of is People Will Talk. It was Jean Crain not Loy.
