We can add this issue/topic to the "genre" "widescreen cinema" thread. Once there, people can refer to it first then ask questions. Just a thought.

Stage Door, Without Love, Five Came Back, & Yours, Mine, Ours are probably on the top of my list with Five Came Back as #1.
-
Greetings Liz! so what are your favorite Garland films or momments?
-
I looked up Dreamboat - wow! pretty good cast. It sounds like a movie I'd like to see also. Never heard of it - thanks for bringing it up. True, Star and Enchanted Cottage had been shown lately, but the original post for those was posted back in November of 2002.
-
In the future you may want to check out the schedule. It will state there whether a film is being shown in LBX format or not.

The Vulture. Man I have not thought of this movie in years - since I was a kid.

Things you wonder about in movies you have viewed
bggalaxy replied to apensa1's topic in General Discussions
I really don't dewell on these things. In general when I see scenes that fit this thread I figure it was an accident that they decided to leave in or worked out better than script. You can pick up a lot of explainations in interviews on TV and comentary w/movie on DVDs. -
Liz was mentioned several times through out this thread, and if you mean she came across as mature for her age I agree. I mentioned earlier in this thread that I like Liz's early movies Fathers Little Dividend era and prior. I'm not sure why.

Funny thing about silents for me is that out of ignorance they are not something I'll tape or stay up after midnight to watch. But when I do catch one I get into it. Half the time I have no idea who the actors are, but that doesn't bother me. I guess my addition here would be to show silents at a better time. Not all the time, but once in awhile.
-
well I tried, anyway folks. Now back to your regularly scheduled programing.
-
good, leo, now we know how you feel. so we don't need to bring this up again. Stoney, I meant to thank you for your last post. It was cool. Thank you, bggalaxy
-
Man leo, stoney is cool with it. No need for names. okay?
-
I never knew how good Chaney was until TCM. I grew up with Jr. movies on a late night horror movie on Fridays as a kid. I remember my mother always saying his dad was a great actor. I remember seeing the Cagney film as a kid also and was impressed. Odd, I still have not had the chance to watch this movie as an adult - but i will. Seeing Chaney's silents and the way he got his thoughts on film with out words is great.

stoney, time to let it go. Leo is. He's trying to get back to a movie discussion. You keep trying to stir things up. If you don't believe he wrote a book or not it really doesn't matter. We know your stand, he's talking movies, we know his stance and reasons for silent lets move on. leo was really p!ssing me off a while back with the big blow up by several on the board. I thought everyone had moved on. Posts were back to movies etc. Leo took what kimbo and I said just as we meant it and was cool. He brought the discussion back to film - fine. If he is this luccal poster - I can ignore the person from now on. Sorry for this post, but I"ve been around for awhile and watched as this board get ugly staying out of issue. I respect everyone here and what they have to say. I always get great answers to my questions and props for my opinions. I get digs (thanks slappy) that make me feel like a contributing member of the board. Since the end of May we have gone in a bad direction. What I'm trying to say, if you can stop the attacks, let's move on. leo, like most of us here has great stuff to add. Everyone thought so before the end of May. Then the silent movie thing began. That is now over. I should also apologize for posting my thoughts on his book. Antar (oops ) brought this dead thread foreword which I ignored the first time it appeared. But with all the sh!t that happened a week or two ago I got curious. I did not know it would bring this reaction out in people. If this brings me attacks too don't worry I won't get into it I'll just go to the next post - check out whose having a b-day .
-
Luccal, what are you doing? leo clearly understood the manner of kimbos and my posts. He knew they were not attacks on him. So why do you try to stir things up? Myself (and kimbo as far as I can tell) give him props for having the drive to create a book. Feelings around here concerning leo seem to be moving on. He has explained to my satisfaction his thoughts on silents - so thats cool. I don't always agree with all he says but I don't always agree with mongo, slappy, classic, antar, and everyone else whos a regular here too. I been pretty good about staying out of all the hassels just wanting them to pass. remember the "tolerance" post? Everyone here can do it. Just because the words are in black and white there are folks punching the keys. Young & old, left & right, each seeing what is written before them differently. luccal - things are cool. welcome back

Another Hunter movie that just came to mind (not an answer to this thread) but kind of the same story - No Man Is An Island. This was based off a true story. The only GI left on Guam with the Japanese army instead of the Germans.
-
Sorry, I thought someone over here would know this film. Is there any other details or actors you recall?
-
I respect the fact that you accomplished this feat. I read constantly - all types stories. I have always fantasized of writing stories myself, but probably never will. Here is what I got from that website: The synopsis, I feel did not create a connection or curiosity to read the book further. It felt routine. It didn't hook the reader to the main character or his path. If you wanted the reader to become curious or intrigued you were too vague or generic. The exert you (or the site) chose was probably not the one to chose. Again, I kept thinking I don't know or care about the main character. It's some guy who doesn't want to called so early. (mentioned more than once) This friend (not really a friend - mentioned more than once) needed to see him fast (mentioned more than once). The rhythm of this exert, in the first person was all over the place. Too many run on sentences along with to many questions (the same question several times). Trying to read the repeated information - I could not get a picture in my mind of the scene. If this was the style of the whole book it would be a tough read (in respect to the rhythm, run ons and repeated information). This is not a personnal attack. This is coming from an avid reader and fan of the written word. This is what I would have said to a fellow student in college during a round table. Again, you took bigger steps than I ever will with this book. Good luck on the next book.

I went to the sight and looked up your book. Let me know if you would like my thoughts. No emails, I'll post it on this thread.
-
Thanks for the info Classics (psscuddles)
-
Yes she is. Go to www.imdb.com. This sight will let you get a quick glimps of what actors has done, is doing, or not doing. You may have seen this sight referenced here several times. You'll have fun over there.
-
Slappy, I won't tell you what I thought I'd see when I first saw "The Mating Season" with Ritter, Lund, and Tierny.
-
that's cool leo, that was explained well without the bluntness - which may have resulted in the backlash earlier - in my opinion. you know you really have a lot of interesting stuff to say, it's just how you say it.
-
You may want to ask this question under the information thread. They are answered fairly fast there.
