  1. wow, these clues ring a bell, but the bell tower is empty. think...think...think... I'm going to kick myself when someone figures this one out.
  2. Yes slappy, I was one of those kids but back in the 60's. As I have stated before - WSS is my favorite movie since the first time I saw it. I also mentioned, for some reason, I thought we were going to see a western. Was I surprised. To this day all can remember of that movie experience was the feeling of being totally absorbed into what was on that screen. Kind of like the dance hall scene when everything blurred except for Tony and Maria. I felt I was all alone in the dark with the screen before me even though my whole family was there and the theater was packed. This was 1968 or 69, a re-release (maybe 1970 - 10 year anniversary?).
  3. Leo, I'm sure, Whit Bissell is listed at that website.
  4. I remember seeing this on TV as a kid in the 60's. If this is the one where (spoiler-can't really spoil this film) the dad parks his car on the bridge and the hoods think he's playing chicken. I'm shocked this was made in 1966. I always thought it had to be the 50's. I liked it as a kid but did catch it later in life and thought what a terrible movie.
  5. I feel Vin is the current Stallone. One dimensional action star. He does have a better chance at pulling off comedy than Stallone - Stallone was terrible at it.
  6. I don't mind the swearing in films unless (as in several DeNiro & Pacino films)fu@k is used over and over. An example of a film made during the era of the four letter scripts is Rocky. I believe there is only one maybe two times (by Burgess) that the word sh!t is used. Other than that it's a clean script. Even Paulie and the hoods Rocky worked for never said anything worse than "****" There are several hit films without swearing (noticable). Field of Dreams Star Wars series While You Were Sleeping Spiderman Shrek
  7. sounds like Brigadoon - was there an early black and white version of this story?
  8. leo: Kimbo, in written words requested the title. Specifically, if you know the title, can you list it? - thanks.
  9. I agree with the Taking of Pelham One Two Three. I caught this film several years back on accident. There are good accidents. Thanks for the Patsy reminder.
  10. I thought so too. I was surprised when it did not make it. It was on my list that I made before the show.
  11. Here some action films I thought would fit here: The Great Escape The Longest Day The Magnificent Seven Once Upon A Time in The West The Professionals also: The Big Chill Philadelphia Story Stage Door No Business Like Show Business
  12. Out of curiosity, what did Roosevelt have to do with the movies of that time? And why would this bother you - he died 40 years before you were born (if you are as old as you say you are). "I like black and white, but that time period (1933-1945) is just not of my taste, mostly becuase of who the leader of the country was."
  13. I see we have the same tastes here feaito. Talk of the Town and Hands Across the Table were two others that I had not heard of until I watched them for the first time and loved them. I wrote down Without Reservation, Midnight, True Confession, and Summer Holiday to watch. I have not seen these or recall hearing anything about them. I will be keeping my eye for these 4 - if you like 'em - I'm sure I will. thanks. The others you listed are also favorites of mine but were films I had always known about. You'll love Easy living (1937) Arthur, Arnold, and Milland. I just saw The Human Comedy this year after it was brought up on another thread as Rooney's best - you won't be disapointed.
  14. Yes, lolite and antar, Meet John Doe is a great example.
  15. Your welcome feaito. My family watches it every Christmas This is the type of movie I am hope to find from the great movie alert thread. When I first heard of this film (back on AMC the good ole days) I figured to give it a try. With Stanwyck & MacMurray I figured there was a chance. I'm glad I taped it! (see below post). This movie along with: Holiday More the Merrier The Human Comedy Easy Living Are hugh favorites of mine that I never heard of until I saw them on TCM or the old AMC for the first time. They became instant favorites
  16. I'm thinking to myself "tolerance"
  17. Another thread reminded me of this film - It Started Eve. The press is waiting for this rich powerful guy to die and have a 24 hour watch on his place just so they could be the first to run the story. Kind of like the post today with the headline of the wrong guy as Kerry's running mate. No politics here just a bad move by The Post.
  18. A little known gem I found several years ago, and is now one of my favorites is: Remeber the Night (1940) It stars Barbara Stanwyck, Fred Mac Murray, & Beulah Bondi. A great romantic/holiday/comedy.
  19. This is one of the funniest threads ever! I'm cracking up through the whole thing. It's much to do about nothing and that's whats so fun.

  21. How sad today's news is. It's kind of ironic, last night right before I fell asleep, I watched one of my favorite Brando films, Don Juan DeMarco. (It was on the Sundance Channel - Sorry) Then this morning it's announced he's gone. I always thought he should have done more comedies - he was great at it.
  22. With the touchy posts that have been written lately, and how people have reacted to what is in print got me thinking of the power of the press. What are some favorites of yours that fit in this catagory. Some of mine are: His Girl Friday The Paper Penny Serenade Woman of the Year Citizen Kane Mr. Smith Goes to Washington I know I'll think of more later.
  23. Did I miss a post or something? where is stellabluegirl?
