  1. Made in 1962 it starred Keir Dullea, Janet margolin, and howard DaSilva
  2. Vera Ellen has always been a favorite of mine. I first saw her in On the Town and feel in love with her. I just wish she had done more films. She and Donald O'Conner I feel deserve more props than they are given.
  3. Cagney is another one who was a dancer first before he was a tough guy. In an interveiw I read sometime ago He stated that he was surprised that people were surprised that he could dance since that was one of his first loves.
  4. I feel actors have been great, good, bad, and terrible throughout the history of film. You can not say that any decade had a greater percentage of great actors to bad ones. There is truth in the statment that poor and unoriginal scripts are part to blame on the thought of todays group of actors. Which is tied into the fact "Money talks". That is one reason I enjoy the Independent and Sundance movie channels. You get original scripts, good acting, and creative film making.
  5. for me it is the 20's to the 40's. It developed this state of legend for several reasons. One being the studio control of the talent. The cover-ups and white washing of bad actions of the actors. The public received a dose of bigger than life people smiling and living the dream in the shang gra la of California. Another possible factor, that the only time the public had a chance to view the stars they were 20 feet tall. I love the classics for the history, the look, the styles, and yes the bigger than life studio stars.
  6. Hepburn, for what it is worth, started her career as a dancer. (ballet) Injury sent her in a different direction.
  7. Here you go - Louis Armstrong to Topher Grace (Traffic)
  8. Waters to Davis Jr. in Rufus Jones for President Davis Jr. to MacLaine in Cannon Ball II MacLaine to Lithgow in Terms of Endearment If in time a connection will be coming
  9. Lionel would be my choice. Only because Captains Courageous, It's a Wonderful Life, and You Can't Take It With You. These three are on my favorites list. I don't believe in have a John or Ethel film on this list. So, based on this, Drew would be second or first. Ever After, E.T., The Wedding Singer, and Never Been Kissed, are favorites for me and my wife of recent films.
  10. My vote is for Bette Davis. There are not too many of her films I would change the channel on. As for Crawford, I change the channel everytime she is on the screen. The only film I watch of hers is Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. I'm not sure what it is about her that bothers me. I have had this feeling about her ever since I was a kid in the 60's and would see her films on the weekend afternoon movies. It didn't help years later to read all the bad print about her behind the scenes. Oh well, maybe someday I'll lose this childhood feeling about her and be able to watch her in a film without Davis.
  11. it seems to me yuo already are a qualified classic fan. to appreciate and enjoy the "old" stuff the way you do is all it takes. Keep hanging out here and you get a lot of ideas on movies to try and catch. For example, my wife got me back in to the classics over twenty years ago. Just a few weeks ago, on this board, "The Human Comedy" was mentioned here. I have never heard of this Mickey Rooney classic. Lucky me it was on about two weeks later, I taped it, watched it, and loved it! I might not have been aware of this gem without the people here.

  18. I have yet to see Rope from start to finish. I have seen a total of 15 minutes of it. I thought I heard or read that it was done in long one shot takes or something like that. Maybe you brighter posters know how it was shot.
  19. Again with the letter box. I "use" FOX about 6 times a month to get a movie recorded in letter box. possibly 4 other times to get a classic movie.
  20. I enjoy that month for a different reason. The more recent movies. I get the chance to record these in their letterbox format. and get rid of the old P/S. As a whole the month is full of top notch movies. How can you lose.
  21. Hello Birchkitty, 84 years old, wow! Welcome! What are some of your favorite romantic comedies? Can you tell me the first movie you saw at the theater? I only ask because I'm hoping you were seeing first run films from the thirties and 40's and that would be very cool. Thank you in advance if you would share some of your experiences.
  22. little: the radio here said he had a massive heart attack.
