I see the movie The Human Comedy mentioned in this thread. Does this film ever play on TCM? It sounds like a wonderful film.

Most of the comedies the following have been involved in: Cary Grant (My Favorite Wife, Bring Up Baby, etc), Jean Arthur (Easy Living, Talk of the Town, etc), James Stewart (Destry Rides Again, Harvey, etc), Barbara Stanwyck (Lady Eve, Mad Miss Manton, etc, William Powell(My Man Godfrey, Star Of Midnight, etc), Myrna Loy( The Thin, Mr. Blandings..., etc), Ginger Rogers (Vivacious Lady, Shall We Dance, etc), David Nivens (Bachalor Mother, Bishops Wife, etc). I always enjoyed Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, Lewis and Martin. Never got into the three Stooges or the Marx Brothers.

KUDOS TO TCM & IT'S "31 Days of OSCAR!"
bggalaxy replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
My wife and I are greatful that Parenthood and Private Benjamin (and other 70's, 80's, & 90's movies) are on TCM. Not necessarily during prime time. We are fans of these two movies and to get them in letter boxed form on to tape is a thrill. We have roughly 1500 movies on tape (and more recently on DVD) and to be able to get a widescreen version off the television is just what our budget calls for. -
Along with some of those already listed, Audrey Hepburn, Jean Arthur, Irene Dunne, & Barbara Stanwyck have always been on my list.
-
Wow, I think she would have been great as the nurse and Mame. Though I've never seen an episode, It took Murder She Wrote for me to take an interest in her body of work. She is a talent with a lot of class.

Best of Times with Williams & Russell Remember the Titans The Longest Yard To name a few I enjoy
-
Widescreen has always been my favorite way to watch movies and I get frustrated during P/S versions. Just this weekend I saw a little tidbit on the letter boxing compared to P/S. For anyone who is bothered by the black bars should try to catch this in between movies if they can. They would be amazed at how much movie they miss in P/S.

Bringing Up Baby: Looks like we need another George
bggalaxy replied to bgsrbbt's topic in Information, Please!
that's interesting, I'll pull out the old tape and check it out. It is my understanding that Asta or Astas is credit as the role of George. -
Keys to the Kingdom, is one on my list too. It's good to see another who would list this as one of their tops. Peck is fantasic in his struggles with faith, tolerance, and the hand he had been dealt. I love the end with sister, it was touching.

jarhfive: That is so funny (I laughed out loud) that you brought up the "Say..." lines. Many years ago my wife and I were watching some old movie and a bit actor said on first meeting the main actor, "Say, I don't like you." We just cracked up. Ever since then we chuckle every time we here a line that starts out "Say..." We even use it around the house. "Say, who left the light on" etc.

Wow Classic, You just reminded me of our neighborhood gang playing war - constantly. There was always about a dozen of us so we either split into teams or re-enact a scene with imaginary foes. The rule was if a "soldier" on the other team shot you had to count to 10 before you can get back into the war. On rainy days I would play with my plastic soldiers and re-enact my favorite war movies or the Magnificent 7. At the time, and still today, this memory brings a smile to me. It also makes me somber, this was the mid to late 60's - then reality hit. The war on the news made playing war unfun. Those guys could not count to 10 and come home. For a kid 5 to ten years old it kind of sticks with you. Those friends and times were great while it lasted.

My first introduction to Ann Miller was as a kid seeing her tap dancing in a soup commercial. I don't recall the soup but the close-ups of her foot tapping was amazing! I just could not believe my eyes and ears. It wasn't long after that I saw "On the Town". I've been a fan ever since. I had planned, before hearing of her death, to watch "Stagedoor" tonight. She was the last of the that fantasic cast.

This morning Bob "Captain Kangroo" Keeshan past away. I know he is not a movie star but apart of my childhood has now left and he will be missed by me.
