Oops! Correction for previous post- I meant Charlotte Vale-not Hollis! Charlotte Hollis is from Davis' 1964 film "Hush, Hush Sweet Chralotte"-definitly a very differnt character and movie!

As a Bette Davis nut I of course love "Now,Voyager". I,ve always thought of the film as a dream on Charlotte Hollis' part with the makeover ,foriegn lover, and of course her unbearable mothers conveniently quick death. I also imagined a differnt ending where she wakes up as the plain Charlotte with a servant informing her that her mother wants her to come down for dinner. I guess I watch too much Twilight Zone. Anyway, thanks for this thread-I'm grateful that theres other people out there who enjoy truly beautiful works of art like this movie.

The last 10 mn. of the 1940 Bette Davis claasic "The Letter" ,where the Davis character goes for a doomed walk in the garden, has what I consider to be one of the best directed sequences in film history. I dont want to give it away but it involves the full moon , lace, shadows, fate and ultimatly murder. Very poetic and intense.

Payment On Demand-a 1951 Bette Davis film released after her All About Eve triumph. This is the only major Bette Davis film I have not seen. The film was a commercial and critical success but Ive never seen it on tv and have searched in vain for the video. PLEASE TCM-air it!!

How about the two Joan Crawford howlers-"Queen Bee" (1955) and "Strait-Jacket"(1964).

You're right-that "I hate porkies "line is a howl.

"Whenever I look at you i suddenly have a fierce desire to be lonesome." Thats a paraphrase from the 1946 film Humouresque spoken by Oscar Levant.I don't remember the line exactly word for word-I do remember laughing and hoping to use it on the next bad date.

I agree-loved THE DAMNED DON'T CRY and its hard to find on video-at least at a reasonable price.Other hard to find movies I wish they would show include Payment On Demand(only major Bette Davis film I have not seen),Caged with Eleanor Parker, and Old Acquaintance-which was shown recently but forgot to set my recorder(just kidding FBI -I would never record a program without express written consent of the films owners-really, I'm not lying).

Did anyone see Bette Davis in "The Nanny".One critic called it" an antidote to Mary Poppins". Its a good thriller-check it out.
