  2. To erzbet: How hard did Greer Garson fall for Ronald Colman? Did she only like working with him or did she melt everytime she was around him or...
  3. Pafjlk, I totally agree with your post!! Im not a Bogart fan either, but he blossomed in Ingrid's presence. Im a HUGE Cary Grant fan! NOTORIOUS is one of my ALL-TIME favorite films. Bergman & Grant lit-up-the-screen. Who knew "lack of communication & constant misunderstanding" could be so HOT! On screen, Ingrid Bergman was one of the few actresses who made "vulnerable & down-to-earth" INTERESTING!
  4. My top 5: Ronald Colman Cary Grant William Powell Paul Newman Errol Flynn
  5. Notorious Random Harvest The Best Years Of Our Lives Queen Christina The Thin Man Laura Yellow Sky Scarlet Empress My Man Godfrey Moon Over Miami
  6. NOTORIOUS is my favorite Hitchcock movie! The cast is stellar, the suspense is thrilling, Ingrid & Cary are hot! Hot! HOT!!!! Ive always been a BIG Ingrid Bergman fan, but Cary Grant really surprised me. This is the ONLY movie, Ive EVER seen him play such a dark, brooding & moody guy. When have we EVER seen him so bitter & jealous on screen?? To me, Ingrid was his most interesting, and compatible romantic leading lady. Together, they really blended into this timeless, earthy, sensual duo, and with Hitchcock's deft directing, Claude Rains, and Madame Konstantin's terrific performances this really is a classic masterwork!
  7. I would love to see a month salute to different european actresses. For my viewing pleasure I want a "whole day" of ... Greta Garbo, Ingrid Bergman, Marlene Dietrich, Simone Signoret, Deborah Kerr, Jeanne Moreau, Sophia Loren, Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Huppert, Nastassja Kinski, Isabelle Adjani, Anna Magnani, Liv Ullman, Juliette Binoche. And the Brits, Vanessa Redgrave, Emma Thompson, Glenda Jackson, Julie Christie, Maggie Smith & Wendy Hiller. Also, how about a month salute to Ronald Colman? I want to see his silents and talkies.
  8. Faves... YELLOW SKY - the earthy/sensual chemistry between Gregory Peck & Anne Baxter made this a BIG fave. ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST - Henry Fonda had the coldest blue eyes in the Old West. THE BIG COUNTRY - again Gregory Peck at his quiet sexy best, and this time Jean Simmons is along for the ride. DESTRY RIDES AGAIN - Marlene Dietrich & barroom bawls make for a FUN time at the movies! THE OX-BOW INCIDENT - classic western with a conscience. SADDLE THE WIND - an underrated gem starring Robert Taylor, Julie London & John Cassavetes. BUTCH CASSIDY & THE SUNDANCE KID - not one, BUT two sexy robbers. HOW THE WEST WAS WON - ANY movie starring James Stewart, Henry Fonda & Gregory Peck gotta be good. THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN - and they were MAGNIFICENT especially Yul Brynner. BELLE STARR - the plot was ordinary, but the chemistry between Dana Andrews & Gene Tierney was smokin. CALAMITY JANE - one of my all time favorite musical western. Doris Day rocked!
  9. The Scarlet Empressis one of my ALL-TIME faves.

  11. I like the cool/ethereal types: Ingrid Bergman Marlene Dietrich Greta Garbo Olivia De Havilland Joan Fontaine Deborah Kerr Jean Simmons
  12. Yesteryear's studio system was rigid, but there was more diversity of genres. You had a delightful mixed bag of dramas, melodramas, comedies, screw-ball comedies, film noirs, westerns, musicals, documentaries, etc. We have some good movies today, but classic hollywood is SO romantic, enchanting & highly entertaining. And b&w just adds to the mystique. And there is ONLY one Bergman, Garbo, Bogart, Dietrich, K. Hepburn, Davis, A. Hepburn, Grant, Stewart, Stanwyck, Crawford, Astaire, Loy, Rogers, Powell, Fonda, Mitchum, Harlow, Temple, West, Gable, Cagney, E. Robinson, Monroe, E. Taylor... the list is endless!!!
