  1. Hey there, little Miss Chicken Hawk!! (HA!!) Gun Crazy (I think that is the movie you are referring to) is the movie I am most interested in seeing. It haven't read a bad thing about it (not that I have read a lot - I don't want to spoil it for myself). Everyone seems to have it on their favorites list. Gal, I say gal... ha... That's the one... ha. We will have to take that one out for an "amble" sometime. :-) Me??? Looney Tunes? Naaaah. Well, gotta run make dinner...... here comes Andrew: HA!!! Just as long as you don't start singing... "A cup of teehee... some cookies and YOUHOO" ha. :-) PS.... HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL. :-)
  2. Hiya Ms. Favell... I was one o' the ones loudly complaining about DeMille last time around. But I have to say that The Plainsman has always been one of my favorite movies, and it was the one that actually introduced me to both Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur! I could not remember who all was on the pro or con side w/ CBDM, but I recalled he got mixed reviews. I have always been a fan... but I know he is not for everyone. But it appears most folks are in agreement about Gary and Jean (ha) and about The Plainsman too. It really was a lucky find for me as I don't know if it would have been one I would have sought out on my own. (I just had not heard too much about it before) I always loved that firepit scene - can you imagine loving someone so terse that only the threat of death would get them to admit they loved you? Ha... well.. he really did hold a grudge against her... ha. But I just loved how it was OBVIOUS (despite all his protests) that he really did care for her (especially the way he guarded that watch almost beyond reason and even at the risk of his own life) That said a lot. (and when he took it off and gave it to her, just before he sat down at that card table.. THAT was when I remembered my "Hickock History" and started to get suspicious that the end might not be the way I wanted... UGH. (did I mention POOR GARY??????????) ha. You ask how long it would take for me to spill the beans if my loved one was on the rotisserie? It depends on how good he was before they fired it up - some days I wish I had my own roasting rack! HA!!! Well.. we all have those days once in a while, now don't we. Just so long as you don't go all "LOONEY TUNES" and start picturing him as a steak or a hot dog hanging over the flames, ha. Answer me a question, Annie Laurie.... Did you happen to catch Anthony Quinn in this film? I think this film marks one of his first appearances... (as an indian of course) and if I'm not mistaken, he is wearing a scanty outfit indeed I did, and he WAS.. (very little was left to the imagination w/ his wardrobe.) And talk about BLABBERMOUTHS. ha. He more or less told the two Bill's Yellow Hand's whole plan w/ out even blinking (but he was awfully cute while he was blabbing) ha. Thanks for the caps, Ms.QT. They bring back a lot of memories, and make me want to go back and watch this one over again. Let's see. That makes movie number ...... 1, 429 You are most welcome, my little OK Kid.I had a lot of fun taking those caps, so I am glad folks have enjoyed them. :-) And speaking of movies to watch, ha.. That is the second time in a week I have been called Annie Laurie (first by Miss G and now by you.. ha.) I have got to add THAT film to my list. I found it on youtube, so I will have to check it out sometime, soon. ha. (I haven't taken any WALKS on the Noir side, lately.)
  3. Oh that IS a scary prospect. If my loved one, in the form of Gary Cooper, were hanging over the fire I would have started running off at the mouth before we'd left the teepee Ha.... look at us... just a couple of blabbermouths! :-) being subjected to snow and ice is WORSE than fire OH poor little snow bunny.. ha. You do like your warmer temps, ha... But I don't know... I think I'd hold out longer hanging over a snow drift than a fire pit.. ha. (But only if I had on my longjohns and a heavy winter coat. ha). But I HAVE been thinking that fire pit has potential... for dealing with certain folks of a Shiftless nature. Maybe we should add that to our arsenal... ha. PS: Chris.. thanks for the kind words.... and what is YOUR vote sir??? To talk... or not to talk?? That is the question... :-)
  4. Thank you ma'am! I recalled you were among the ones leaning less favorable toward DeMille, but you are right, his westerns really ARE something. (I absolutely LOVED Union Pacific when TCM showed it earlier this year) I hope you do get a chance to watch The Plainsman again soon. I would LOVE to hear more from you on it. And I am STILL just overwhelmed by Jean Arthur in this film. I have always enjoyed her, but she really stood out in the scenes that I posted. (Ha.. I should pull a SHIFTLESS trick and ask everyone.... ha.. what would YOU do if YOUR loved one was hanging over fire??? YIKES)
  5. Well, my Western friends.... 2009 is almost at a close, and I have to end the year here with at least ONE more long winded ramble. (ha) I have been posting on the lighter side lately, but wanted to get a word in about a new OLD Western that I just saw for the first time the other evening. I was at Walmart the other day getting new tires put on my car (courtesy of my dad and (guinea pig killing) mom (HA). Two new tires was their gift to us this Christmas, and I did NOT know they were going to do that for us, but it TRULY was what we needed. And I can NOT think of a better gift I could have gotten.. but I digress.. ha. ANYWAY... I went wandering around the store as I was waiting for the tire guys to get my car finished... and lo and behold, I wandered into the video section.. and started nosing around... (usually, there is LITTLE in the way of classic movies to look at there, but THIS time, I lucked out (and it was even my favorite PRICE... ha. (OK.. my SECOND favorite price.. ha. FREE would be my favorite... but $5 is a pretty good deal TOO, ha) I am talking about The Plainsman, starring Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur. Now I apologize in advance.. because I DID have way too much fun taking some screencaps yesterday. (but I will only post some KEY scenes that I really think were among the best parts of the story... just to spare you from making this any longer than I am sure it is already going to be.. ha) But first, here's a little something for the ladies: (ha) Gary Cooper as Wild Bill Hickock: And just so you don't feel slighted.. ha... for you gents: Jean Arthur as Calamity Jane: This is a Cecil B. DeMille film, and I know he sometimes gets mixed reviews around here by several. But I have always enjoyed many of his films, and this one is no exception. He truly had a knack for working a story and making it seem grand at times. But even though this is NOT his usual EPIC (such as many folks might be more familiar) I have to say I thought this film was very well done, espcially for the day and age that it was made. And I say that primarily because back when this film was made, (my DVD cover says 1937, but I looked up so info on some internet sites that put it at 1936) there were WESTERNS and then there were "cowboy" movies... and THIS is no "cowboy" movie. Now how much of it all was historically factual.. I have NO idea.. but in many ways it was VERY gritty and real... and quite emotional in places. It did not start out that way. In fact, I did not take it seriously enough at the beginning. The relationship between Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane and the friendship between Hickock and Buffalo Bill Cody are more or less the centerpieces of the story. There is also the marriage of Cody to his new wife Louisa too. And it all comes together with a story about the trade of repeating rifles to hostile indians and the Army trying to stop the Cheyenne from getting their hands on some ammunition. And yes.. although the "cowboys" are not so stereotypical... there is a bit of a heavy hand with the Native Americans in the story. And yet, THEIR plight is told from their own perspective, even if ever so briefly. And I really like how the ONLY time they are seen speaking in the traditional broken "White man speak w/ forked tongue" English is when they are speaking to Hickock... and not to each other. They speak what at least SOUNDS like authentic native american tongue. And that is not so "stereotypical" for that day and age. And also there was an "equal opportunity" for bad guys among several of the white men as well. So it was not all about the Army VS the Indians. At any rate... the screencaps that I took seemed to gain a life all their own, ha. As I watched it all a second time on my computer yesterday, the more I watched, the more I kept capturing images.. ha. I(it was way too much fun) But there are TWO specific parts of the film I want to focus on. Because to me, they are what made this story REALLY stand out for me. The first part I want to bring up is when Calamity and Bill are taken prisoner by Yellow Hand (the Cheyenne chief) and are being asked to divulge the destination of a group of soldiers who are transporting a load of ammunition. It was a VERY intense segment, and one of the "grittier" parts of the film. But first, a comment about Bill and Jane... I really enjoyed their whole relationship. It was back and forth, back and forth, and back and forth some more with him denying his feelings for her (though you KNOW he really does care for her) and with her going after him again and again, getting disgusted by the way he keeps brushing her off. It sounds like a recipe for disaster, ha but I mean that all in a GOOD way. :-) And honestly, I have NO idea for sure how much TRUTH there is to their relationship as a historic fact, but it made for a good ?romance? on the silver screen. Bill is forever denying his true feelings for Calamity. He wipes off all her kisses and will go out of his way to be hurtful just to keep from admitting to her that he cares. MAJOR SPOILER ALERT: Held captive by Yellow Hand, Calamity and Bill must choose to keep silent about the soldiers? destination or decide to talk and possibly save their own lives. For Bill there is no choice. But Calamity is not as strong. This is one of the finest moments in the film, as far as acting is concerned. VERY intense and emotional. LOOK at her face as she watches them torture Bill. She is PERFECT in the way she cracks under pressure. I think this is one of the best performances from Jean Arthur that I can recall, and that is saying a lot because she has always been a very reliable favorite for me. Now I have to tell you, watching this was GUT wrenching because I usually personalize moments in stories like this one, and of course, I did this time too. I don't even want to have to IMAGINE what I would do in a situation like that, but of course, I DID, ha. The QT and I watched this together, and I asked HIM what HE would do if I was hanging over fire like that.... and he said he would talk for sure... because he loved me too much to see me melt, ha. And I said, "WELL, I love you MORE because I wouldn't have waited to talk until you were hanging!:.. ha. At the first SPARK I would have been blabbing.. ha. So I told him that meant I just loved him MORE than he loves ME... ha. :-) Anyway... after Yellow Hand lets them go (since Calamity fulfilled her end of the bargain) Bill is FURIOUS with her, and sends her to go get Custer to bring help. He joins in the fight, but it is a losing battle. Because as a result of her ?failure?, the soldiers Yellow Hand are seeking are held under heavy fire and are dug in now with no hope of escape. They are getting picked off one by one , 48 soldiers against 1000 Cheyenne. Could the odds be much worse than that? After the roll call, another wave of attacks from the Cheyenne: Morale is low. The men can?t take much more and it starts to show. They are starting to come unglued . Custer arrives, and they are saved. (I know... it is likely that whole "print the legend mindset of movies from this era. I am sure folks in the 1930's had a COMPLETELY different opinion of him than most folks do today, but it makes for a thrilling rescue.) :-) At any rate... I thought these two parts of the film, the scenes with Jean Arthur and the battle scenes with the soldiers were all just BEAUTIFULLY filmed and perfectly acted. VERY believable. And they really made this entire film for me, if only for that reason... And (AGAIN WITH THE SPOILAGE) the scenes at the end were so tragic. I KNEW Hickock was shot during a game of cards (the whole Aces and Eights legend) but I had TOTALLY forgotten it. And UGH.. it was so emotional to see him go down. POOR Gary. I think this is a lesser shown Western than some of Cooper's other films, but I want to say again how much I enjoyed it all, and I hope others will take the chance to watch it for themselves. And IF you are still awake after this RIDICULOUSLY long post.. ha.. all I can say to you NOW is HAPPY NEW YEAR and thanks for letting me ramble, folks. Edited by: rohanaka on Dec 30, 2009 10:14 PM
  6. Don't let Lola hear this story HA!!!!! ;-)
  7. Death by Decor! HA!!!! April.. you have the color of both the CURTAINS and the PIG just exactly right. ha. (only the curtain fabric was a heavier sort of "basket" weave) Fred: you may have it right... WHO KNOWS what evil lurks in a mother's heart where RODENTS are concerned.. ha. (We always tease her more like a game of Clue..ha...It was Mom, in the family room... with the orange curtains)
  8. just can't believe he's Dana Andrews' brother. They look nothing like Well THAT was something I never knew.. ha. Go figure.. Poor little guinea pig! What happened? POOR Lt. Harrelson... he and his brother... Mr. Tibbs bit the dust. (Ha. I am not kidding... those were the names.... I wanted some sort of cutesy names like Fluffy or FuzzyWuzzy... ha.. (I think I was 11, ha..) but I still remember my younger brothers chose Lt Harrolson's name.. and my dad named Mr. Tibbs, ha. I was outnumbered. BAH!! :-) Funny the stuff you recall from your childhood..ha ) Well.. ANYWAY... those furry little critters had a wire cage down in our basement (where the family room was) and my mom had put up these new LONG "70's orange? woven curtains that hung down from those high basement windows (to make it look more like a regular window) And the guinea pig cage sat on the floor at the bottom of one of those curtains.... and well.. they did love to nibble. And we didn't realize they had munched on those orange beauties until it was too late. And according to "family lore" ha... my dad says those curtains were made of fiberglass.... at the very least they were made of some sort of synthetic material or something. DEFINITELY not cotton. So to make a tragic story shorter... those poor guinea pigs died a HORRIBLE painful sad and tragic death after consuming whatever those curtains were made of. We still go on and on about it to this day about how my mom KILLED the guinea pigs with her interior decorating. ha. She was never a big fan of those furry little creatures to begin with... but she just kept saying over and over... "I didn't know they would EAT the curtains... I am so sorry" We give her LOTS of grief about it NOW just for laughs, but back then, if we had not been so DEVASTATED... we might have used her guilty conscience to our advantage... She felt so bad, who KNOWS what we could have conned her into letting us do, to make up for it.. ha. Another missed opportunity to get over on mom.. ha. Alas. :-)
  9. Wow... What an opener... And it definitely has that 70's look to it. But the suspense has me hooked. Ha. WHY didn't that person post the REST of the movie???? ha. I remember Steve Forrest from the TV series SWAT. We even had a guinea pig named Lt. Harrelson after his character on the show... but alas.. he met a TRAGIC and bitter end....
  10. Terrific post, there, Mr. Laffite. Thanks for bringing up Mystery Street. Yet another one to add to my Wanna See list. (I love Elsa) :-)
  11. Don't feed me after midnight Fat chance.. YOU wouldn't eat MY cooking even if I PAID you... Mr. "I only eat sawdust and saurkraut". Frank Grimes.... posing w/ Ida Lupino and Humphrey Bogart on the set of High Sierra
  12. You cannot possibly be THAT cute. (But you DO make a convincing BAD luck charm... ) (did I mention... )
  13. Ha, I say HA some more.... And after that... one more HA!!!!! (ha) A new year equals new "rambles I just watched THE PLAINSMAN.... (sob) poor GARY!!!!!!!! I had NO idea... (sob again..) But DUH.. I SHOULD have.. I DID know that was more or less how his character ended in real life... I guess I was just in denial..ha) Oh wait... did I mention.... HA?????? :-)
  14. Now who can we get to be snippy and mean to play Velma? Never mind that... I just want to know how you are going to fit into that DOG costume, 'PARD.
  15. Hi Peacemaker! Well, one out of two isn't half bad. I'm glad it's my favorite Bogie you liked best, anyway Howdy there, little gal. Rick was OK... and he DID end up saving the day.. (I likely have NOT given him as much credit as he deserves... he DID get better toward the end than he started out at the beginning... and he was a good character) but ROY.... oh wow. He just really was even MORE tragically torn and it made him intersting to me. Alas, I have joined the "Shiftless" club myself. I haven't really watched anything except my TV show DVDs, Animal Planet's "Cats-101" and several of the Sherlocks on the 25th. (I even returned two DVDs I had rented...unwatched. So you and I are both in the same corner). Ha... well... you sound like you were FAR from "shiftless" with all the viewing going on. And I TOTALLY missed all of those Sherlocks.... we had to watch all the kidling's Christmas DVD's (we had UP (woo hoo) and The Chronicles of Narnia going on) but I DID manage to catch the June Allyson Little Women during the day that afternoon. Why did I never notice what a dreamy voice BASIL RATHBONE has????? Well now I am going to have to make a point of watching HIM again soon. Ha.. it has been SO long since I saw his Sherlockian contribution.. ha. I do not recall THAT aspect of it..ha. I will have to check it out for sure. :-) PS: Ms. Favell, You are a brave lass indeed, but I admire your ability to call em as you see em. I wonder if Casablanca might grow on you if you were to watch it again down the road apiece, without pressure? You know, put it on in the background and just let it grow on you. I get all wishy washy when Yvonne starts in singing the Marseillaise, and from there on in, I am a goner. And it has a WOW finish.... Thanks, young'un. And you do have a point, kid. It was a good ending... and I LOVED that whole Marseillaise scene. (I'm SHOCKED...ha) I likely sounded more critical of the film than I should have.. I think I was just expecting more because of all the BUILD UP for so many years. But it WAS a good story. I may have to give it a try another time just to give it a fair enough chance. I am so relieved that High Sierra was a home run.... I wish the story as a whole had been as good as ROY.. ha. But I DID like it well enough as a film, too, overall. But mostly due to Bogie (and that is saying a LOT for me.. ha.) But some of the other character were good too, along w/ Marie I also LOVED PA and MA.... and I even liked poor VELMA.. until I found out she was LOUSY..ha) I start sniveling about half way through, then by the time Pard starts running and barking (no eye rolling for me) I have a big lump in my throat that won't go away..... and then I am out and out BAWLING when Marie delivers her last line, walking and walking..... Man oh man.. it was a HUGE "what might have been if ONLY" kinda story. (pass the KLEENEX if you please!) ha. I will look forward to hearing more from you on that one. (I'll keep the tissues ready..ha)
  16. Ok.. I am about to hang my head in shame... I am officially a procrastinator of "Shiftless" proportions,ha. After I checked out my two BOGIE's at the library last week... they sat there on the shelf and MOCKED me all week long. (ha) and I just kept ignoring and ignoring and ignoring them. ha. But I finally watched BOTH films last night because I knew they had to go back to the library today and did not want to have to come back here and be even MORE ashamed.. (as in: Kathy... you had those two films just sitting there all week and you didnt' even TRY) ha. So... RE: Casablanca... I am glad I got to watch it... but... alas... I think I will now have to turn in my official classic movie fan card.... It just did NOT wow me like I thought it would. In fact, I fell asleep toward the end of it. (I am such a loser, ha) But I did manage to rewind and catch most of what I missed. And I have to say that LOVELY Ingrid was as LOVELY as ever... very poignant. And HB was... ok. But again, I have to confess.. he just did not WOW me. But he did do a good job. (especially in the tortured love lost aspect of things) I REALLY liked Sam a LOT (what a voice) but my MOST fave character of all.... Claude Rains (ha.. I think I am getting a crush on him or something... lately almost every movie I see him in, he is my favorite character,ha) But I DO understand why this film has such a following... and when I started doing the math.. and linking things together... It must be one of the most QUOTED movies in history.. ha. ( As in: Here's lookin' at you, kid We'll always have Paris. Play it again, Sam... the usual suspects... this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship And then there is that whole... You'll regret it... maybe not today, etc, etc.. etc.) My overall impression of the film was I think the story was a good one... but for whatever reason... maybe because I have just had too much "build up" by practically the entire civilized world (ha) what a great film this was... my expectations were too high... because... did I mention I fell asleep???? ha. (but you know what... I DO have to confess... it was not entirely the movie's fault. ha. I HAVE fallen asleep on films I liked better than this one too... so that might not be THE indicator of my real thoughts on a film, ha) But again.. I just was not "WOWED by it all. However, the QT watched this with me... and HE must have liked it more than I did... because at least he stayed awake. (ha) and he even sat through the ending with me a second time after I woke up and rewound it to see what I missed, ha. All together.. I have to say... it was a good movie... but just not WAY up there on my list (I know... and I call myself a classic movie fan... did I mention I need to hang my head in shame???) Well.. after my little NAP I felt so refreshed that I put in High Sierra.... now THAT was a whole other ball of wax. I have to say... THIS movie was not as good a story as Casablanca... in fact.. there was a lot about the story itself (and a couple of the characters.. of should I say... characterizations) that I really did not like... but WOW... as far as HB and HIS part in it are concerned, it was a MUCH better BOGIE!!! April... I can TOTALLY see why this is one of your faves for him. He really did a stand up job. I felt so sorry for him. It was like he was caught between two worlds. He WANTED to be one guy... but he KNEW he was really another. *Spoiler alert:* I KNEW he was not going to make it in the end... because honestly... he WAS a bad guy. (albeit a bad guy who WANTED to be good) But after all the killing... I knew he was going to be a goner. Still... it was so sad... and yet, ha.. I must have a WARPED sense of humor, because as he was falling down that hill... and the little dog was running up to him, ha... I DO have to confess, I rolled my eyes and said... "Pard strikes again" (ha) But it was very tragic the way he was calling out Marie's name over and over... (April did I mention I TOTALLY get why this film is one of your fave's for him?) I think I would have to put it up there as just about the BEST acting by him I think I have ever seen. And that poor Marie... (sob) I WANTED not to like her... but I felt so sorry for her in the end.... and that LOUSY Velma... Ha... what a ROTTEN trick that was by whoever WROTE this story... making her seem ONE way... only to find out she was REALLY a no good.. piece of work... OH ME. The way she acted at the end.... I just wanted to knock her into next week. ha. This IS a pretty pickle! I am not sure I recognize this person anymore...is this the Peacemaking Quiet Gal or Annie Laurie Starr? Ha.... it's official... after the way I wanted to just KNOCK that LOUSY Velma around a bit.. ha... it's still MEEEEEE!!! (ha) I feel so relieved! 17. The snow has been here for days! The shoveling is done and I have made peace with the snow! We are one Ha... what is this... some sort of Zen Snow Shoveling? Next thing you will tell me you have some sort of mini snowman shrine set up in your freezer and your are freezing incense in there.... nah.... that would be... just too whacko.... (ha) Now go rent The Six Wives of Henry the VIII and report back here Not likely, kid.. I don't think I have rented any sort of movies since about 1995... ha. If the library doesn't have it... Kathy doesn't either. Ha. (but I WILL look to see if they do.) If not.. I guess I will have to wait for some sort of PBS rerun. In the meantime... I will just have to be a spectator (and occasional (but I hope INFREQUENT) interruptor of this thread instead.... unless you all pick a BBC-er that I have SEEN. ha. I do love my Masterpiece Theater sometimes.... I especially enjoyed the Jane Austen series and The Dickens series they ran this past year... Oh... and Cranford is being rerun right now too.. (which is also very good) But I have hijacked the pirate's thread long enough... don't want to have to walk the plank... so please go back to Henry and his gals.... and I will go back to my little corner and wait it out (and enjoy the read) and then maybe I can chime in on another chat sometime. :-) Oh and Merry Christmas to you as well And to you and everyone else as well... God bless us, everyone! :-)
  18. DEAR TCM FRIENDS AND FAMILY: FROM THE "ROHANAKA" HOUSE... TO YOURS...
  19. Hi Rey... My newest for Christmas addition 2009, Support Your Local Sheriff! with James Garner, Joan Hackett, Jack Elam and Walter Brennan. I ALWAYS liked that movie.. ha. It is great for a grin or two. (and Brennan is so funny doing a parody of himself from his role in My Darling Clementine) ha. It is so amazing how he can take the traits that made him so menacing and utterly disturbing from one movie and turn them around for laughs in the next. Open Range with Kevein Costner, the great Robert Duvall and Annette Bening. A great western in the classical sense. Plus it has one of the great shoot outs ever filmed. MHO of course. That one has become one of my newer favorites of late. (and that is saying a lot because usually I can take or leave Kevin Costner... mostly leave..ha) But he did fine in this film.... and Duvall is always reliable in a role like that one. And though a bit "gritty" sometimes, it really is a good "old fashioned" western to be such a recent film. PS: check out my long opinion over on General Discussion You really know your actresses, sir. :-) A very Merry Christmas to you.
  20. Dude.... what are you doing on here???? You're supposed to be shoveling snow... (Ok.. sorry.. Laffite... back to the BBC... )
  21. Have you watched any new westerns lately? NO!!!! (in fact, I haven't even watched any OLD westerns lately... HA!!) I think I mentioned on here the other day (in Rambles Jr.) that I have been having an identity crisis lately..ha And it has gotten worse the last few days because along with all that's been going on.... whenever we DO have time to sit and watch anything.. it has been Disney Disney and MORE Disney.. ha. (the kidling found several films the other day on our trip to the library so we have had to watch them all.... at once, ha) I HOPE to get to more than a few movies (that I have been wanting to watch lately) over the holiday weekend (and next week too) Along w/ some Noir and a couple of HB's that I have been trying to get to... I have a couple of Westerns as well.. (one of them is YOU KNOW WHAT!!) Ha... so I hope to get my "Western Fix" soon... if only so I can feel like myself again. Ha. (I would say that I would feel like my OLD self again... but why state the obvious?? Ha.) :-) How about you? Any other new ones to report??
  22. The American Life Network Well THAT'S a new company I never heard of before... but then again.. that's no surprise.. ha. My cable is so BASIC.. ha. I have about 6 "good" channels.. and then after that it's home shopping network galore. ha.
  23. Wow April.... I musta been asleep at the wheel or something. (ha... it would NOT be the first time) I have not looked in here in a couple of days... and when I did.. I see THIS.) Thanks for sharing that tidbit on The Hanged Man. It's one I have not heard of before. I thought it much better than I expected. And it had a cute bit performance by Hank Worden, wearing his Searchers top hat Now that alone makes it sound interesting enough to me to keep an eye out for it!! (ha) I love him in that movie. :-)
  24. is this the Peacemaking Quiet Gal or Annie Laurie Starr? HA!!! Well... I THINK it is still me... (but I DO feel like I am having a bit of an identity crisis lately) ha. PLUS (PS) for THAT clip to be me.. I'd have to have one of those EXTREME MAKEOVERS for sure.. HA!! (Wowsa that was some mighty fine shootin', though!!)
  25. He might also have been an impractical idealist not coping well with a cynical world. He seemed to try to fit his philosophies---mostly derived from books it seems, rather than from experience---to his circumstances, and that often leads to heartache. That's a perfect way to say it.. and also sad but true. It's funny the happiest person in the whole play is Charley Grapewin's character He definitely had his own little way of looking at the world. ha. I guess it pays to be a bit off your rocker now and then. :-) Well.. I went to the library..... and quess what??? I found BOTH Casablanca and High Sierra... so OF COURSE after all this discussion, I had to check them out. (And I must say it felt SO strange for ME to be walking out of there holding HB in my hot little hands... ha.) This has been a banner year for me... ha. First Henry Fonda.. then NOIR films... and now THIS. What IS the world coming to??? :-)
