  1. Hiya April-

    FrankMillerGrimes

HA!! I have heard of the "man w/ a thousand faces" but I think the Grey Guy is "The Man w/ a Thousand Names"

lifting a majorly heavy television to make room for the new, lighter, flat

panel television that arrived BROKEN so I had to re-lift the majorly heavy OLD

television back onto its perch. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... It's been a bad several days, and

I still don't know if the retailer I bought it from will replace it.

That not only sounds like a pain in the back...but also a pain in the place due south of the back as well. I hope you get that all worked out w/ them...I bet it is very frustrating!

It's supposed to snow here tomorrow. I close my eyes and think of a blank wall....

Try thinking of Bermuda instead....at least you will be warmer!! :-)

    It seems better this morning

Well that's good to hear....looks like maybe "Santschi fever" is a cure for all sorts of troubles! :-)

  2. Lookie what I found, curly hair and all (I still like him scruffy better, but the closeup makes me melt

Oh....Jack...what a great pic of our beloved Tom...I knew he had a good "clean up" in him.... :-)

This is what I was talking about...I LIKE the scruffy look, don't get me wrong...but I also like it when he is spruced up w/ his "Sunday Go To Meetin'" look as well....I think I said it earlier but at the risk of repeating myself....it's the best of both worlds!

(PS..The QT is also a good mix of Scruffy/Sunday Go To Meetin', so that is likely why I am fond of that trait!) :-)

  3. Anyone else snowbound today

I only WISH I was snowbound....we got about 3 inches of snow...not enough to cancel school (so I had to go to work in it) and just enough to be a major mess...and there is freezing rain coming tomorrow....IF ONLY it was more snow....then I could just stay home!!! :-)

Stay warm....enjoy your movies...and if that wears off...build a snowman...at least you will have someone to talk to out the window while you are snowed in... :-)

  4. As a kid...these were among my faves....most still are today as well...

    (In no particular order)

Andy/Barney The Andy Griffith Show...Oh what the hey....throw in Floyd the Barber...Aunt Bea and Goober too.

James West/ Artemus Gordon...Wild Wild West.

    Brett Maverick....Maverick

    Samantha/Endora...Bewitched

Rob/Laura Petrie...The Dick Van Dyke Show

Starsky and Hutch...(what can I say...I was 13 and Paul Michael Glaser was way too cute)

    Columbo

Mary Richards....The Mary Tyler Moore Show. (I could probably list most of the cast as well)

    Gilligan...the Skipper too...

Laura/Pa/Ma Ingals Little House on the Prairie (oh and throw in Mr. AND Mrs. Oleson too)

The Entire Cartwright Family...throw in HopSing too...Bonanza

More recent years...among my favorites...(again...in no order whatsoever)

Magnum...Magnum PI (What can I say...I was in my early 20's....and Tom Selleck was way too cute)

Capt. Jean Luc Picard/Commander Data... Star Trek the Next Generation

    Heathcliff Huxtable....The Cosby Show

Lenny Brisco et al (he had numerous partners) and Sam McCoy...Law and Order

    Monk

Jethro Gibbs...NCIS (though I don't get to watch it as often as I used to anymore)

and probably my favorite most recent...Brenda Leigh Johnson...The Closer

  5. the most awful back ache for the past three days and nights

Oh no! It was probably brought on by all that harassment from that One Bad Man in the white hat! :-) Seriously...hope it is better soon.

At the risk of sounding like a copycat...I have been getting a pain right above and between the shoulder blades and I think it is from tensing up outside due to the cold and having to be out in the awful weather...it is SO rotten out here this week....and now on top of all the other junk...they are calling for freezing rain tomorrow... I can just feel the tightness in the back of my neck from all being so cold and from all the extra "caution" due to the slippery surfaces...Don't know if that is where your trouble is coming from or not...but several people out this way have all said the same as me...Winter is OK usually in my book....but this is a bit ridiculous.

At any rate....rest up and stay warm...and think "peaceful" thoughts as you sip your tea...and then ...go get the massage. :-) Hopefully you'll be good as new soon enough.

  6. I'm feelin' poorly

Hi Barb...hope you feel better soon. It is no fun being under the weather. Chicken soup is always good...that and the darjeeling will at least give you the "cozies" even if they don't ward off the blech altogether...REST and plenty of it goes a long way as well...Hope you are up and at 'em again real soon....I need your "cleaning" inspiration the way you had it going at Thanksgiving...what musical would you suggest to put me in the holiday mood and give the floor a good scrubbing???

  7. Does anyone doubt after all we've seen through out the film that once she is determined to do something she will move heaven and earth to do

Rhett's final line seemed very "in the moment" to me

He may act contemptuous of her actions but he has always admired her spirit and drive. They may not live happily ever after but I have no doubt he will be back.

    Great observations, Molo...

This will sound ridiculous...but it comes from maybe spending too much time around kids. For purposes of this discussion, there are at least two types of "relationships" in the toy box of love...Spinning Tops and Yo-Yo's. With Tops...when the string gets pulled...the two pieces seperate...never to come back together again. (at least of their own accord) The YO--YO's on the other hand....pull apart...come back together...pull apart...come back together...etc...and no disrespect intended...but those two together make one heck of a yo-yo. :-)

  8. In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.

    Thomas Jefferson

That is perfect!! (although...lately...when it comes to style...I almost want to swim "against" that current....I am probably a candidate for that "what not to wear" show... :-)

  9. NEVER mind.

OH NO! THIS is a serious offense so we can't let him off "the hook"! :-)

PS...April, you left out the beginning of the sentence...as in..."You never mind..." and the rest of the sentence would have to be...."But it comes as no surprise...when DID you ever mind???"

OH...Mr. Grey...We have 3 inches of snow on the ground and we have had 3 nights in a row of single digit temps around here...That old rope is awfully frozen now...and if we DO have to hang you....nobody said it was going to be by the neck..

April...we could hang him upside down by his ankles and then place the computer keyboard just below him and we won't let him down until he reports in... wadda ya think??? Desperate times call for desperate measures. :-)

  10. April...I think you are right about the "sewing craftsmanship" thing...I am lucky to be able to sew on a button, but some of those old west ladies had real skill

    http://www.1860-1960.com/xa4091p0.html

Here are a couple of photos I found...check out the REAL do's on that hairstyle page...no "Audra Barkley" fashions to be found for sure...

    hair1.jpg

And here is something I found in my "fashion search" though it is not one bit about fashion...but it was just so doggone interesting I had to post it...THIS is one amazing woman...they ought to make a film about HER:

  11. Mr. Pastman...this would be easier if we weren't doing this in reverse. (I know...I'm a whiner) :-)

INT: SAM'S OFFICE, 10 PM . SAM IS SEATED AT HIS DESK, THE ONLY LIGHT ON IS A SMALL LAMP ON THE EDGE OF THE DESK AND FLASHING NEON SIGN ( EAT AT JOE'S) SHINING THROUGH THE WINDOW BEHIND HIM. A HALF EMPTY BOTTLE OF SCOTCH SITS NEXT TO AN EQUALLY HALF EMPTY GLASS. SAM'S CIGARETTE IS SMOLDERING IN A NEARBY ASHTRAY. SAM IS HOLDING THE RECEIVER TO THE TELEPHONE IN HIS HAND.

    VOICEOVER: (SAM SPEAKING)

Sometimes I hate this job. Sure...I had the goods on Rachel. The old man would pay plenty for what I knew. But then what? I wanted more than the money he was offering. I wanted Rachel. Four years was a long time for a man to dream. And what a dream at that...there wasn't a day that went by that I didn't regret walking out on her. At least that's what I always told myself...but the truth was, she'd walked out on me...and the knots she'd had me wound up in the last time left me in such a stranglehold I thought I would never get over her. And sure enough...I was right.

SAM TAKES A DRINK FROM THE GLASS AS HE PUTS THE RECEIVER BACK DOWN ON THE PHONE.

    (VOICEOVER CONTINUES)

HE PULLS A TRASHCAN OUT FROM UNDER HIS DESK, GRABS A NEARBY CIGARETTE LIGHTER AND SETS FIRE TO A SMALL STACK OF PHOTOS THAT HE TOSSES INTO THE EMPTY TRASHCAN

And now after Rachel's call, all I could think of was the danger she was in. She was playing right into that old man's hand. He knew everything, and he didn't even need the info I had on her.She was going to get hurt..maybe even killed if things went on this way much longer. That old man's money could buy a lot of things, but the days of him buying me were over.

Rachel had to get out of town and I was the man who was going to make it happen. She thought she'd all but cleaned out his bank account without him catching on..but the truth was, he had gotten a call from the bank just a few hours before Rachel had called me.

SAM PICKS UP THE CIGARETTE AND TAKES A DRAW ON IT AS HE STARES AT THE DWINDLING FLAMES IN THE TRACHCAN

She never suspected a thing other than I was just the lovesick puppy she used to kick around. And I had her right where I wanted her. She thought we were just meeting for drinks..you know..for old time's sake. But we were heading out of state with that suitcase full of money. I knew she had it...and she'd go with me one way or the other. I'd let her think I was black mailing her and tell her that I taped our call. Sure, she'd get mad....but she'd be alive. And when we got where we were going, I would let her know her days of using men were over. She was going to stick with me and like it...and we were going to get rid of the money...ship it back to Wainright..all of it. That was the only way to keep her alive. She didn't know it yet, but I was about to become the best thing that ever happened to her.

Sure....lying and pretending to blackmail her may not be the best way to rekindle an old flame...but it would keep her alive...and if I played this right...maybe this time it would make her mine.

  12. Woo Hoo!! Chris...I was about to surrender to the warm glow of my little fake electric stove when I saw your post!! Nice perspective on this story.

George O'Brien is among the most genial and endearing actors I have found. He is most comfortable on camera and seems so natural. Too bad his popularity didn't last and that we don't see more of him.

I looked him up after I read your post...it appears he was in several Ford films, but I would have to do some digging to find out what sort of roles he played...he doesn't stand out in my mind at the moment, but I am sure some of you better educated folk can place him better than I can right now. I thought he did a great job w/ his character in this one...a bit "ornery" yet very much a stand up guy...he had to be to meet w/ Bull's approval.

I liked the irony of fire. On one hand the church is burned down but also used to light the way for the rescuers and then as funeral lamps as Bull carries his sister down the stairs

I hadn't thought of it in those terms, but I think you are right on target.

They know they weren't bad men after all. They just thought they were

Nicely said! (April...you could add that quote as a little subtitle at the bottom of your shirt!) :-) Great Ramble there Chris. Very well thought out.

PS..I liked the music...I'd have to go back and listen again to the "land rush hoedown" but the main theme that was played off and on throughout I really liked a lot... but as I often tell the short person...different people like different things. :-)

    PSS....Grey Guy...

So what is your very favorite scene in 3 Bad Men, Good Gal?

All of them!! :-) Actually...if I had to choose a favorite, it would be the part at the beginning where they come riding out with the sun behind them...that still gets me everytime I think about it.

  13. 3 Mall Men. That movie is on side C of the DVD

HA!!!!!! My favorite show!! (But how will I ever figure out which is the C side on a two sided disc??? I took me forever just to find the "B".

In truth....the 2 older men were brothers and were always very entertaining ...quite witty in fact...you never quite knew what was going to pop out of their mouths (the third guy was a bit quieter, but he could talk a lot once you got him started) So all in all, they would have made a great "side C".

It was 63 degrees here today, which tied our all-time high. Tomorrow? 32 degrees and a wintry mix. There's a chance we may get 3-4 inches of snow.

You probably have what we had Saturday...it was in the high 50's then...then yesterday afternoon the wind picked up to a ridiculous pace...and the temps started dropping like a rock....it was about 3 degrees early this morning when I left for work... and I don't think it got about 10 or 11 all day. We are supposed to get snow too late tonight or early tomorrow...but not quite that much in this area...1-3 inches maybe. Later this week we are supposed to get it again... so I guess it is winter time for sure...I like snow and all that....but single digit temps are for the....hmmm...penguins. (those are the only birds I could think of who might enjoy that) BLECH doesn't even begin to cover it.

I haven't gotten warm all day...I think my little cast iron space heater is calling my name!!!!

    I always behave myself. I'm a gentleman

    Well...

  14. The "stork" most assuredly had a wrong sense of direction when he plopped me in this day and age. See how I can't resist even a mini-rant on this subject?

HA!. I have always joked that I was born about a hundred years too late...but then...I go flip on a light switch or turn on the dishwasher...and that thought starts to fade... :-)

Trust me, you would come away looking like the nurse and me the patient that's how

stubborn and unreasonable I am on my soapbox.

HA!! We would make quite the pair. Of course...they would know we were "out of it" just by looking at our matching teeshirts... Most folks on the street likely haven't even heard of that film...Just going off the title and the scruffy-looking guys in the picture...they will think we belong to some strange "evil cowboy" cult. :-)

  15. Would you like me to take your trash out

HA!..I had to sit here a while...but think I finally got that...(I don't work at that mall anymore....) But tomorrow is trash day.... (better wear a heavy coat though...it's about 7 degrees outside right now...it has been freezing cold like that all the ding dang day!!!

And PS...as I am sure you have figured out...I am about as boring as the day is long... so you have a long way to go still to catch up to that...

But I was speaking the truth, I didn't want to interrupt your "Informer" discussion with Miss G.

April....should we accept this as an X-cuse or not???

PSS...Grey Guy....your rambles are always worth waiting for...at least...when you behave yourself... :-)
