  1. Could you do me a favor and tell these other girls that they are rotten? They need a good talkin' to.

Oh Grey Guy...tsk tsk tsk....what a thing to say...SOMEONE around here is as rotten as last week's buttermilk buster... and I won't name names....but it rhymes with Dank Chimes... Santa is lurking you know. You are SO off the nice list. :-)

  2. he could be persuaded to tape an occasional movie from the Encore Western channel to mail to you?

Oh that would be one too many favors, and too many favors=too much leverage. Pretty soon i would end up over at his house to clean out the garage or something because of all the guilt from all those favors. :-) I'm still paying off guilt from 1978...I got a long way to go. :-)

Actually, all kidding aside...they have 4 kids and 7 grandkids and they already do way more for all of us than we deserve . I think I will skip adding any more favors onto their list anytime soon.

  3. Encore Westerns

Well...that is disappointing to hear. Now I won't feel so bad about not having that channel. It would be nice to have a lot of those extra channels maybe, but I am just too tightfisted to spend the money when I know I will likely end up blocking out half of them anyway...there is so much junk out there mixed in with the few good channels and programs.

I talked to my dad just the other day and the subject of cable tv came up...and he and my mom have like "cable supreme" (ha-- my own label...I don't know what it's really called....but pretty much they have everything under the sun all in one package) and he was telling me all the channels he gets (and I started "drooling" when he mentioned Encore Westerns...since I don't have that in my basic pkg) so then I got "smartmouthed" with the old geezer man (yes...that is a pet name for him by the way) and I told him it wasn't nice to brag. Then I mentioned something about him blowing all my inheritance like that on cable tv just so he could watch continuous reruns of I Love Lucy and Happy Days....HA!! But then he pulled out his "big gun" wisecrack...."I'm only leaving my money to the kids who talk nice to me anyway" OUCH!! :-)

Then my mom chimes in...."We won't have anything to leave anyway but the cable bill...you can all split it up between you when we're gone" ....that mom...she's always thinkin'. :-)

PS...Kids....Don't try this at home....this conversation wasonly a dramatization and is the result of 45 years of good natured kidding among family members with complete understand that all parties were JOKING. (at least I THINK my mom was joking!!) NEVER ever ever ever ever smart off to your parents.(This has been a public service announcement on behalf of parents everywhere) :-)

  4. "The Man From Colorado

Hiya Chris. I looked this one up to find out a little more info...sounds like it is high on tension...would you consider it a "list worthy" addition?

PS...what's this I hear about a "crappy" Thanksgiving?? Hope all is well.

PSS...I FINALLY found a newer "used" vcr (almost exactly like one I used to have) that I should be able to record on...at least I am hoping so anyway--I haven't hooked it up yet, so we'll see...keep your fingers crossed! :-)

  5. Pardon me for coming in late, here folks...

April, Molo, GWTW....great discussion on Scarlett et al. I have not seen the film in several months, and have not read the book...but you have brought up so really intersting points on their motivaitons as charactrers.

PS: He LOVES Scarlett but she'd LORD it over him

Whammo! Nail on the head!! GWTW...that is one of the best comments I've heard about Rhett's thinking ever. I think you are right on the money.

Miss Maven--see how folks are already getting geared up for class...I am really going to have to be on my toes for sure...(now where did I put that new box of chocolates?) :-)

  6. Bill Holden and Glenn Ford. They are so shiny and new they look like two pennies

April, I love that description. I always enjoy seeing favorite stars when they are still "wet behind the ears". I will keep that western in mind during all my many searches.

Hey, we watched Mighty Joe Young today. It was on my mind after our chat, and I was talking to the QT about Beautiful Dreamer and and I told him that every time I hear it I think of that big old gorilla. I thought for sure he would say the same since he has always enjoyed this movie so much. Imagine my surprise when he said, "Not me....I always think of Miss Jane" (speaking of Nancy Culp from the Beverly Hillbillies) He said that she sings it to someone she is trying to woo or something like that in a western about a killer grizzly bear...I think he is talking Night of the Grizzly...I have only seen it once ( a WAY long time ago) and don't even remember her being in it, but evidently she was funny enough to stand out in his mind because it was the first thing he thought of when I mentioned that song. I looked it up to see if I could find it on youtube, so I could see what he was talking about but no such luck. She was a funny woman. I always enjoyed her w/ those hillbillies. I think I woulda liked to hear that one for sure. Maybe I will find it at the old library. That place is starting to come in kinda handy.

  7. The Green Pastures

FF, I looked this up after your comment yesterday in the westerns. I think I have seen it before, but it was a long time ago. I don't remember many specific details. But if I recall correctly, a lot of the familiar stories from the Old Testament were more or less told in a way that might be more in keeping w/ folklore than w/ scripture, but were also somewhat entertaining as well.

  8. Hello Molo...

I got to watch The Devil and Daniel Webster this weekend...

Let me know if the sound seemed uneven to you

YES...though I don't think it bothered me as much as it did you..I think the biggest problem I noticed in the sound over all was that EVERYTHING was the same volume level...stuff that was supposed to be background noises was as loud as the dialogue...it was kind of hard to hear over the din. But so long as it was just one on one conversations....the sound was ok. The only time I found it too difficult was during the trial scene....there was so much "weird" noise going on w/ the voices I couldn't always discern what they were saying.

I don't remember too much about what we studied w/ regard to this story in High School. In fact we may have studied more about the author than we did the story itself (It seems I recall spending more time on By the Waters of Babylon ...also by SVBenet. But even that is a bit fuzzy...It's been about 30 years since I read all that, and as my husband likes to say...I've slept since then.)

But I do think the movie is quite a bit different than the short story in terms of all the details...yet the basics are certainly all there. If I recall from what I saw in some of the stuff I looked up online...the author had a hand in the script as well

I looked and looked on here to see if you ever posted your "ramble" on this one, but did not come across it...I would be interested in hearing from you and the Grey Guy...since you two started me on this "kick" and also from anyone else interested...I'm curious about all your thoughts on the story and the characters... I will post more of my own at another time...it's late and I need to call it a night. I will only say for now that I found myself thinking of several other stories similar to this one...two in particular...Damn Yankees came to mind...but also one that might not be as well known here...A Simple Plan. It is not at all the same in terms of plot...but the characters all find their lives completely consumed (and changed) by the love of money....it is a very bloody movie though....extremely hard to watch. But...enough of this rambling for now....I'll hope talk to you all another time.

  9. What a lousy time to feel sick!

Hi Minya...it was a much different Thanksgiving than we planned...but it actually wasn' t as bad as all that. We just sort of "vegged" a lot...and there was plenty to eat as I had originally been expecting to feed my stepson and his family and my sister in law and brother in law too (not Thursday but Friday) but everybody agreed that our "germs" were not something we wanted to share....so we decided to get together another time....and in the meantime...my husband and daughter and I just got to hang out together in our "misery" and eat when we wanted, lounge around and watch movies...we even played Yahtzee a bit...so it was kind of a family fun weekend w/ a lot of nose blowing and coughing thrown in for good measure. (Believe me...I' ve had worse holidays) :-) We're on the mend though and managed to go out and about a bit this afternoon...I think the worst close to being over. (Just in time to go back to work Monday...blech. ) :-)

  10. +Sorry you missed The Commancheros, but don't worry,

Well, at least I got to see ALMOST all of it...

AMC shows it quite often. It may even turn up again this very weekend.

That wouldn't surprise me a bit. But knowing my luck...I'll find out it's playing 3 minutes too late to catch the last 3 minutes that I missed....(I never was any good when it comes to math) :-)

  11. The Green Pastures,

That's not a title I am familar w/ but will look forward to reading the ramble. I am about to head out w/ the fam for a while...we are all sick of being sick and have been cooped up to long, so not sure what we will do.

know a lot more about religion than I do

PS...That is not necessarily a given...I can only answer based on scripture and my own personal faith....but I DO almost always have an opinion on almost everything. (I know..what a surprise) :-)

  12. Maybe they have the DVD at your library, Kathy

Maybe, but I think I will wait.. I saw like 99% of it...so I think I would rather try checking on some more titles I haven't gotten to yet...but THEN maybe I will get it, just so I can see the last 3 minutes or so!!!! :-)

  13. Kathy, are you and your lovely family recovering from the blechies?

Hi Barb...thanks for asking...We are gettin there...it is always a good sign when the short person is running to and fro all over the house yelling and jumping around like a banshee...Every so often she stops...sniffs and coughs...then keeps running. I think the end may be in sight. I am about 95% now finally...The QT...still fighting a bit more...he and I seemed to get it a lot worse than she did, lucky kid. Hope your thanksgiving was a happy one. :-) PS...is chinese on the menu w/ mom today...or is there plenty of left over chicken soup still??? :-)

  14. BAH!!!! Not so "luego" after all...by the time I got back in to see the "end" of the stinking movie...it was over! I wasn't even on here that long...How could it be over??? Lousy AMC...oh sure. they make you sit through a year's worth of commercials all through the stinking movie...until the very last commercial break...and then WHAMMO...lets throw Kathy for a loop and only give her a quick blink of an eye before we end the movie...UGGHHHHHHHH! (Oh well...I never was good at multitasking...That's what I get for trying to do two things at the same time...At least the QT was watching and he was able to TELL me how it ended....But could he have yellled, "Hey idgit...get back in here the movie is back on" ??? OH NO...that would be asking TOO much. I asked him why he didn't yell and he says...(and I quote) ..."What...it's just a western...you've already seen it a dozen times already". (After that...he was sporting a large throw pillow upside his sweet little forehead) HA!

And PS...SCSU....another John Wayne "singing alert"....half way through the film he was spotted singing "The Sun Shines Bright on Pretty Redwing." Glen Campbell's music career....still secure.

  15. Foster's "Old Kentuck

Bardstown Kentucky...I don't think it actually was HIS home...but I believe he spent some time there. He was a really tragic sort of figure, but he sure did write a lot of popular songs that have lasted a long time.

Mighty Joe Young was produced by John Ford and Merian C. Cooper's

    production company, Argosy.

Now that you mention that, I do remember seeing that last night when I was looking up the youtube. I don't ever recall noticing it before even after all the gazillion times I watched that movie. I was going to ask you about it...so thanks for bringing it up....did he produce any other scifi?Kinda a different sort of deal for him.

PS...gotta go...(I only am on here now because I stopped to look something up and to send a PM to someone about a movie)... But thought I would put in a quick post too....guess what I am watching on AMC...The Commancheros...finally. I know I have seen it before after watching it now...but I couldn't hardly remember much until seeing it again. Hasta Luego, Muchacha.
