  1. Wow April....what a nice post. Isn't it funny how music can affect the way we look at a movie. I LOVE Beautiful Dreamer...it is such a pleasant tune and it gets into your heart as you hum along...but the lyrics are quite touching and sentimental too. Stephan Foster was quite the talent. When I lived in Kentucky, we got to go tour his "Old Kentucky Home" and they used to (maybe still do) have a "summer under the stars" type theater with a play about his life showing there at different times.

But...in truth...I have to confess..for years now, whenever I think of Beautiful Dreamer...there is another film I think of first...We have it on tape and it is a favorite w/ the kiddies(My two stepsons always liked it and now it's a fave of the short person and her two young nephews too...and of course w/ mom and dad(aka grandma/grandpa) too)

So whenever I hear this song THIS is what I think of.... :-)

    PS...fastforward to about 7minutes 50 seconds.

(Maybe someday I'll watch The Naked Spur..if only to get another reference point for the music) :-)

PSS...I don't know who the person was that made this youtube....but there is extra footage of flying saucers going on right after "Beautiful Dreamer"....funny but I don't recall that being in OUR copy of this film HA! :-)

  2. Hmmmm--No mushrooms, eh?

that's not what's worrying me. It's how to do it. These things must be done delicately or you hurt the spell

I'll get you my pretty! And your....uh...wait...do you have a little dog?? If so...he's free to go...no sense making him pay for YOUR rude remarks. :-) (I'm not QUITE so wicked as all that.) :-)

  3. Hey Thanks for the Hondo...we did not get to that one....but we did at least watch Rio Bravo. I got my copy at ...where else...WalMart...it is not a bad one either...it's a "Two Disc Special Edition" and has pretty good picture and sound (at least by my standards anyway) and there are some extras but I haven't checked them out, as well as a nice collections of "postcard" type photo stills. And of course...as an extra bonus...that great Walmart price was a big incentive. :-) (If memory serves it was around $13) I bought way back in the late summer or early fall. I can't believe it's taken me this long to open it up, but since I had seen it before, I guess I wasn't in such a hurry as I would have been otherwise.

  4. Quiet Gal's cooking

HA! Well I like that. And after I posted you such a cute turkey coloring page and everything.. Just for that..I hope you broke your favorite crayon--don't tell me-I already know...it's the BLACK one! :-)

Now..just for that wiseacre comment....lean a little closer to you computer moniter and I will breathe a few of these rotten germs on you...no...never mind...you are rotten enough I suspect. :-)

  5. Is it homemade

    Oh yeah....

    Guess what I'm watching:

Isn't that the one with Katherine Hepburn in it?? (HA!! ) :-)

I was going to try to talk my husband into watching Rio Bravo later.(It is an old favorite of ours) I got the DVD a long time ago, but haven't opened the case until the other night when I was cooking my turkey....and of course...I was too tired and well...you know. So I still have a "Rio Bravo" mindset...I really did try to watch it, but I only got as far as the part where Ricky Nelson gets deputized...and the next thing I knew the timer was going off on my oven and I woke up looking at the main menu of the DVD.. (I am just pitiful.)

Maybe after the short person hits the hay later, I can talk him into watching that one first...and then Hondo later...a double feature...of course we've both been such couch potatoes the last couple of days...and with all that turkey working on us...I bet we'll be lucky to make it through even one. You know...soft couch, a warm blanket...and a belly full of turkey...talk about a triple threat.

  6. gun almost looks chocolate-dipped and it's making me hungry

Now that you mention it...there is a big pan of chocolate/peanut butter fudge in my fridge that it just calling my name...I guess I could cut it into the shape of a tiny pistol first...but I think that would just take too much time. :-)

  7. Make sure you all get enough sleep, take your vitamins, and drink hot lemonade.

Take stuffing and pumpkin pie every two hours and call me in the morning

Thanks Barb! I am sure we will all be doing better soon...it just has to run it's course. (The ole stuffing and pie cure...works every time.) :-) We are fresh out of hot lemonade, but we have been hitting the orange spice tea pretty hard lately.

We watched Fiddler on the Roof yesterday and I thought of you....when those gals were dancing around singing Matchmaker...I thought...gee...if they put a broom in one hand and a swiffer duster in the other.... :-) Hope you Thanksgiving was happy...soup and all. :-)

  8. even clean your floor so you can EAT off it. (in case you and your guests need the extra dining space)

Oh no...don't set the standard TOO high for me, now. Folks will be expecting me to keep house like that all the time. (perish the thought)

Thanks for the well wishes folks...sadly though...between me and my husband and daughter we will all be feeling a bit "germ-anic" this weekend. We've all got a touch of the "blechs" right now. (I'll try not to breath too hard on the keyboard as I type this) Not sure we will be having too much in the way of outside activities this time around. But at least we will have plenty of food to eat.

  9. tonight I was finishing up my side dishes while cleaning my apartment to the lilting tunes of WEST SIDE STORY.

WOW. I bow to you, oh domestic guru of the Bronx! :-) If you run out of things to do...you can come out here and help me peel potatoes and mop the kitchen floor...I'll even sing "I like to live in America" for you if it will help...though I must confess I am not nearly so snappy a dancer as Rita Moreno. :-)

  10. and how many times have I seen Duke in that same salmon-colored shirt in his later westerns?)

It did sort of turn into his "official" uniform for a while, there...but at least it was a good color on him. :-)
