Is there a movie scene that is too painful to watch?
rohanaka replied to kas_to's topic in General Discussions
Scenes too painful to watch... Jaws...the scene with the little boy on the yellow floating raft...I have to watch a lot of this movie with one hand diagonally across my eyes anyway (that way I can see the top right/bottom left of the screen--and miss the parts in the middle) :-) But as soon as I see his cute little feet splashing around in the water and hear that awful music....both eyes go shut (and I plug my ears too). Most of Schindler's List. I waited on purpose until this film came out at on VHS so I could pause it...walk away and collect myself....and then come back and watch a while longer. It was very disturbing. And very emotional. (especially the scenes with the little girl in the red coat) Saving Private Ryan....I should have done the same thing and waited for the video on this one to watch it at home...I could not even take my hands down from in front of my face for at least the first 30-45 minutes of the movie. Just when you think you can relax for a moment...whammo. someone gets shot, blown-up, ripped to shreds, etc. etc. All of these film are very graphic....but it is the emotions that are also tied to each one of them that make them so gut-wrenching (no pun intended) for me. -
Oh Boy..I'm seeing dollar signs now. I'm thinkin' there's a future for this thing! I think we need to try and market this idea...we can call it the "Duke-a-phone"or the "I-Duke." We'll just have to do a little research on our start up costs and we can split all the profits between the three of us! (See column 2 message 1) :-)

smacked on the counter Sounds like a tasty way to take out your frustrations!! :-)

I bet duke could keep even a classful of rambunctious youngsters in line Or their teachers...or their parents....I get to deal with all of that combined. :-) Hope you figure it out-- even if I could find some way to make it work for me...being so "techno-challenged" I'd probably end up clicking on the wrong thing somehow and accidently download something like the theme song to Gilligan's Island instead. (And who wants to go around all day with something like THAT stuck in your brain???) :-)

If you can't have ice cream I would suggest M&Ms I'm just butting in here because I like the way you think...also...keep in mind--if no M&M's are available---keep a package of JR Mints in the fridge. Two or three of those little gems popped in my mouth--ice cold---and I am a happy woman. (In fact--I can't even eat them at the movies or anywhere else anymore. I only want them after they've been in the fridge--something about cold chocolate and the cool/hot combo of the mint. My husband won't touch them...he hates anything minty and to that I can only say....good! More for me! :-)

I can just click on it and let Duke respond for me I like your thinkin' pilgrim!! ( or should I call you "baby sister" ?? ) I've already caught myself wishing I could think of a way to carry this around with me when school starts back up in a few weeks! :-) Message was edited by: rohanaka

Whereas some kid in the Midwest might not have a clue who that man is barking at him on the other end of the line....and is offended and may have to sue Well if they try to sue...you could always refer them to the first link--column #2 message #6!! http://www.abcarcade.com/john-wayne-soundboard.html (I inserted this again up here so you don't have to scroll down) :-)

I only got to see just the first little bit of this last night--but I think there must have been something going on (with the signal)because I had the same problem with our cable service out here. I changed the channel to get away from the black screen...and then we sort of started "surfing" and I finally fogot to go back to it. I think I fell asleep too--because all of a sudden it was like 20 minutes later and my husband and daughter were sitting on the couch reading and the weather channel was on...but nobody was watching it. (I'm going to call it a "power nap") :-)

I've just gotten so lazy about things like that--if I don't know the caller personally--they better leave a message because I won't answer. I figure if they really want me to talk to them, they will start talking first when there's a beep--then if I want to--I can always pick it up. It's better than hearing "you've just won an all expenses paid vacation to our fabulous timeshare resort" every other time I turn around. :-)

I played through a lot of the ones on the list you had in the first link...the one I would have wanted isn't on there--perfect for a telemarketer....From North To Alaska...."Oh Shut Up!" We say that one around here all the time (all in good fun) only you have to do it like he did and make shut and up very distinct and run it together all in one word...shut-tup! :-) PS--I just went into the other link--an "oh shut up" is in there--but I don't think it is the one I am talking about because there's too much space in between the words--he must be yelling at someone else in a different movie! Ha! :-) Message was edited by: rohanaka

I've had that happen to me before and if I can "re-explain" the way someone else explained it to me...try to make sure that all of you lines start all the way over at the left margin. (Don't "indent" your lines and watch out for any accidental spaces at the beginning of a line--anything that comes after it won't post.) Hope that makes sense--all I know is I started watching out for that before I click the "post message" button and so far--it hasn't happened to me again. Good luck! :-)

I think his folksy rendition of Shakespeare, especially Romeo and Juliet, is very funny "Romeo, Romeo wherefore art thou, Romeo?? I'm right here behind this pea bush!" (another family favorite!) :-) If I recall he also has one about football that it very funny too. Did you ever see "No Time for Sergeants?" I think that may have been his big break, but not sure. A Face in the Crowd just makes me shudder! And he also was in something I saw on TV--might have been a made for TV thing--where he played this horrible patriarchal bully--he more or less terrorized his whole family. He might have even been a murderer or some other sort of criminal... I don't remember too much about it because I saw it YEARS ago--but it just made me sick to see him play such an awful sort of guy Give me that Mayberry crowd any day! :-)

Andy Griffith!!! What a guy! (Though I must admit I just prefer him in his folksey kind of roles--His show from the 60's is still one of my all time faves And Matlock was fun too.) He's been in a lot of movies too, and some of his characters are quite different from his TV roles...almost scary. I don't know if it's the story line of the movie so much as it is just the fact that I am used to seeing him act like such a great all around guy and then to see him turn so mean and awful...it's kind of like watching your sweet old Grandpa go "psycho" or something. :-) Speaking of Monte Walsh--is this the same story that got remade into a made for TV with Tom Selleck? I'm not a huge Selleck fan, but if this is the one I think it is, the story was really good and as I recall, Selleck did ok. (I think it was a tnt or usa network thing--not exactly sure) I might be remembering the wrong movie...but that's what happens when you get old. Don't know if I will get to watch the Lee Marvin one tonight or not, but hope to try. Message was edited by: rohanaka

How d'ya stop the monster and save the world?
rohanaka replied to judycwrite's topic in Science Fiction
Yeah, but since this is "sci-fi" there is always the chance he will turn PSYCHO and go into a FRENZY. Then there will be no escape because for him IT'S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD. :-) -
Oh my goodness me! April what great pictures you've got posted here! (Going all the way back to a couple of days ago with The Big Country)---but boy oh boy---this last one of The Duke!! WOW! I'd forgotten just how good looking he was when he was younger--(at least until I caught the tail end of Stagecoach this afternoon!) :-) But looking at this last post of yours--makes you wonder how he avoided all that "superhunk" status a lot of young men his age fell into in that era. (and still are falling into today) I know he's always had a lot of fans...but I don't think he's one of those actors you immediately think of that way. But now after seeing this photo of him, I have to wonder "Why not??" :-)

from the past to an unknown future. Don't want to butt into the class too much but when I read this--the very first character I thought of was Ethan in the Searchers. When he walks away from that door at the end--and the door is closing--all I can do is think how he spent all those years--every moment of every day--with only one driving force and one reason for living. Now that his search is over, I gotta wonder what's on his agenda for tomorrow morning. Message was edited by: rohanaka -

Here! Here! Good call, Miss G. Jack--you have a certain amount of discernment in your posts that lends credence to the fact that this is more than just a passing interest for you....and as the old saying goes, "practice makes perfect." Whether you want this for a career goal, or even if it is just a "hobby" that you enjoy....I agree with April, if it's something you care about...keep at it. :-) -
