  1. The African Queen probably looks a lot better now Ha.. well.. they are two entirely different "animals" aren't they. If I had to choose between them.. I would definitely go with Bogie and Kate.. at least in THAT movie they got to make their own torpedo to get even with the folks that were giving them so much trouble. I can just picture the parent-teacher conferences between you and Jean Oh FORGET the parent-teacher angle. I am SO way past that for this movie.. ha. You forget that I have been the troop coordinator for a scouting ministry (with over 50 young girls) at my church for the last six years now... I'm Miss. MacKay!
  2. You do still have a head I DO indeed.. but oh me, I had to just about glue it back ON.
  3. all I could think of was John Ford Ha.. he DOES seem to pop up all over the place, doesn't he? And that is a lovely comparison young'un. I imagine that you are right at least based only on some of the shots you posted. I know very little of Lean (and not a WHOLE lot about Ford other than the films I have watched for him) but I am sure he had an influence on many directors who came after him.. and for a film like this one that relied SO heavily on the kinds of images you posted.. I bet Lean did look back to some of what Ford had already done.. if only for a frame of reference. Whether or not that is true.. I will rely on you more learned folk to figure. But for my part.. I will just say that this is one of the few "classic" films I have actually had the pleasure of seeing on the big screen. I saw it once way back in the VERY early 80's and then again after it had some sort of restoration, I think.. if I remember right.. later in the 80's again. And BOY oh boy.. all I can say is LofA is such a visual experience all on its own.. just watching it for the way it LOOKS is almost as worthwhile as the story itself. Grey Dude.. I hope you check it out soon.. would enjoy hearing your thoughts on this one.
  4. Grey Dude: I'd LOVE for Quiet Gal to watch that one Jackie: I think Ro's head would explode if she watched jean brodie Grey Dude: Ha! Oooooh, let's get her to watch it! Let's get her to watch it Well far be it from ME to disappoint my friends. Thank GOODNESS for youtube. I found it and watched it.. just for YOU Mr. Grey. And may I just add.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er3-wbk25mQ HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Well hello, Mr. Mushy Love Story Guy. ha. So what was the issue for you? You don't like the bickering? You don't like the performers? You don't like the characters? You don't like the story No. I wouldn't say it was as bad as all that. I wouldn't even say I didn't like it. I just can't say I LOVED it ha. I had pretty much the same reaction to (gasp.. I am just so ashamed to admit it) CASABLANCA! (I KNOW.. who do I think I am calling myself a classic movie fan.. agh.. probably one of the most famous, best loved classic "romance' movies EVER... and I hardly could have cared less. ha. And now THIS movie too. What IS wrong with me?? ha) It's funny how we differ so much on McLintock! and The African Queen yet both feature bickering and fighting. Of course the one is full of mud fights and a spanking. It's played more for comedy I did find things to enjoy about TAQ over all.. but it just did not stand out for me as much as it did others, I am sure. I don't think it was the bickering. (because I DO like that in some stories with some characters, maybe) But I think it may be one of those issues where I have always struggled to like Bogie and I am also not a HUGE fan for Kate's later films.. overall. (II do like some of them.. but it gets picky and choosy for me to say which ones) And don't get me wrong.. because I think she did alright in this movie. But again, I just am not so fond of some of the characters she played in her later work. I don't know if it is her voice.. or the way she carried herself, the way she spoke. I don't know. But I just can't find as much enthusiasm for her later work as I can for her earlier stuff. And for him.. I think I am REALLY learning to like him more and more as time goes by (ha.. no pun intended) in fact, I likely enjoyed his character even more in THIS film than I did hers. maybe.(ha.. I liked how over time he went from calling her "Miss" to "Old girl".) ha. So it really isn't a commentary on their acting (in this story) per se. But I just did not get as big a "kick" out of the two of them bickering back and forth as I do other characters when they "bicker' ha. Maybe it was the subject matter of the movie.. it was not as entertaining to me for them to keep bickering and back biting while all the other stuff was going on. (and that is what I meant about it dragging on and on.. it got tedious, after a while) Or maybe it was TOO heavy a plot (overall) for me to enjoy the funny parts as much as I should have. And that is likely the problem I had with the music too. (because it kept coming off so "light hearted" off and on all through the movie. But the MOOD of the movie (overall) to me was NOT so light hearted. I don't know if I am even saying it right.. but there was just some issue I had with the whole "feel" of the story that really did not win me over as much as you might have thought. (or even as much as I might have thought) based on the plot and the types of characters. They SHOULD have been more appealing.. because I do think I might have liked the whole thing better if it had been presented differently.. either as a straight out comedy.. (like McLintock OR as a more serious story.. with only occasional humor.. but not so much attempt to be funny when there was so much that was NOT funny going on. And no.. I am not saying all my movies have to be one way or the other. There are plenty of movies I like well enough that mix comedy into more serious themes. I do believe what we like in a romantic story is much different Possibly. But I bet we are more alike than you think. I like a variety of different types of "romantic" stories. (depending on what mood I am in) But I do like ones where there are characters LIKE these two sometimes. I usually DO enjoy stories like this.. where the man is maybe some "not so nice" guy.. who is a bit of a wisecrack-er and perhaps a bit of a jerk, even from time to time. And I like the women when they are strong and capable and yet something may happen where they will need the man's help.. but the woman would almost rather DIE than ask for it. ha.. Bickering is ok.. if appropriate.. and if it is not TOO mean-spirited. So yeah.. I can see where you might have thought this would be one I would like. But for some reason, this one just did not work for me as well. Does any of that make sense?? ha I doubt it.. but HEY.. it is late, I need to hit the hay.. and I am literally typing this with one eye open.. ha. My other one is giving me a headache right now. ha. Anyway.. I am not sorry I saw it.. and am glad that I got a chance to see what it was all about. Just can't list it as high as some of the other films I have seen for either of these two actors. I would have been shocked if you didn't like the ending It was absolutely perfect. I don't think it would have been able to end any better than that. It really was a great way to wrap it all up. Too bad the rest of the movie didn't get my attention as well. Can't win 'em all. But am still glad I finally (FINALLY) got to check it out. ha.. if only so I could take the tape back to the LIBRARY! Oh me.. a week late. My fine will be the national debt! ha.
  6. Yo Grey Dude I finally (at long last.. ha) watched your African Queen movie.. All the way through even.. with only MINIMAL distraction. ha. (no lint was involved this time!) And well.. I can't say it is my most favorite film ever (I can't even say it would be my most favorite for either of these two actors,) But HEY.. I CAN say that I've seen it now. Ha. And I will add that there were parts that I enjoyed well enough. I can see why you liked it. (with all the bickering and such) I think there were some parts that quite frankly just dragged on (and on, and on) way too long. And that may have been part of the reason why I just could not let myself focus on it as much the first time. OH, and the music. not just the cacophony at the beginning.. but all through the movie. OH my golly.. did it ever get on my nerves, ha. (But I digress) Meanwhile.. I think my MOST favorite part of the whole story was the end. (ha.. but I mean that in a GOOD way)
  7. Hello Mr. Grimes... Great googly moogly, I am so far behind here I will NEVER catch up. But I am having fun making my way through all the posts here. (it will take me a while.. but it is a fun read) So for now.. just wanted to comment on... Hey, it's Quiet Gal's dream couple from The Furies ! Where's T.C. when you need him? HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's six feet under.. right where he belongs, the low life. All kidding aside.. I really enjoy reading all your comments on each film. Most of them are ones I have never heard of.. so I always look forward to reading why you liked (or did not like) them. Thanks for all the effort and time you put into them. (and thanks for the youtubes too.. some of these may be ones I will hope to get to.. someday... you know.. if I EVER can manage to make myself watch.. that OTHER movie, ha. (its' been sitting on the table.. mocking me for over a week. Overdue at the LIBRARY even. (AGHH.. I am such a slacker.. oh me, oh my.. what's a girl to DO?????????)
  8. Well hello there, Monsieur Laffite, Nice to see you around these parts again, sir. It's been fun to pop in here and read your comments on all your recently watched movies. I am enjoying the conversation you have going on and am happy to say I have even seen a few of the movies you mentioned. I especially like Life With Father (I am with Jackie.. I can't help but watch it anytime it is on) it is about as funny as any movie of that style I can think of.. and I love the way HE thinks he is the head of his household.. but, ha. everyone else, (especially mom) is working behind the scenes to get what they want too. And I really enjoyed High Sierra when I saw it a couple of years ago.. but have not got as good a mental picture of it anymore to be able to say a WHOLE lot.. ha. (except I DO remember that dog!) Meanwhile.. I wanted to comment on this: SOME CAME RUNNING (1961) ...Shirley MacLaine's character unprepossessing in the worldly sense, a floozie if you will, but her indomitable child-like innocence and undying capacity for love is an anomaly in this grim cast of characters. She is awfully good, even brilliant. She is worth the whole show. She is all you say and MORE in this film. And that (for me) is saying a lot because to be honest.. I am no huge Shirley fan. But wowsa.. she is truly a stand-out in this movie. UTTERLY charming (in such an annoying sort of way) and totally heartbreaking there at the end. (oh me.. ) Thanks for the fun read. (You and everyone else, for that matter)
  9. HAPPPPPPYYYY Birthday, Ms. Favell!! Here's a little something sweet to help you celebrate, kiddo (It's the best of both world's.. your favorite chocolate turtles... and cake!) Turtles for everybody!! (ha... now THAT'S not something you get to say every day) Hope your day is terrific, young'un!
  10. Oopsie.. I am editing my post here because I was going to wish Jackie a happy b-day.. and I see Miss Maven has already started a party for you over in the Rambles Jr. Thread. (ha.. come on over everyone. there's CAKE!) Edited by: rohanaka on Feb 14, 2014 2:05 AM
  11. YO!! Mr. Grey.. Five minutes NO.. I watched almost 3/4 of the movie.. well.. sort of. Ha. It was ON.. I just couldn't stay WITH it. (alas) It was the LINT!! The LINT, I tell you. Next time I watch I am going to make sure I get out the lint brush and also clear the table next to me of books, etc.. and I will wait until the kidling is in bed asleep.. and.. and... I don't know. Maybe I should put on headphones to block out all other noise.. OH.. and you know those HORSE blinder thingies.. you know.. since you called me a MULE. (me and poor, dear sweet, beloved MISS G too) (Well, really!) HA! AND.... I am going to try and watch it all again, I promise.. if I can get over you calling me names. ha. (and if I can find my lint brush)
  12. Oh my sweet little missy.. Thank you for all your kind words. I think you are truly one of the dearest girls around for taking your time to even write that all down. (GOODness me) You did a great job of listing everybody's personality traits.. ha. At least you have more or less described most of the folks I tend to read the most often.. and I DO agree with what others have been saying. You have pegged us pretty well. And you are right.. it IS a community. Even more.. it is almost like a "family" in some respects (and you can just consider me the whacky aunt who talks to much, most of the time. ha) But I like how we are all able to share our "self" here.. in and among all the movies and movie stars and directors and who knows what all else we end up gabbing about. For my part.. I have to say how MUCH you (and so many others) all mean to me. I know I have been very hit and miss around here lately. But I do enjoy getting a chance to come in here now and then to chat... To see what is going on.. to check on the latest list from Mr. Grey... to see what everyone else has to say about whatever they may have just watched too. Let's just face it... there is a lot of good reading here.. from a lot of folks. But for me.. I am not just "reading" your words.. I am hearing your voices.. each and every one. And as for my writing "style".. you pegged me right in that I am very conversational. I pretty much write the same way I speak, in fact. (which is why most of what I say more or less sounds like I am babbling half the time, I am sure, ha) But I also want to say that you give me way too much credit. I am mostly just a coat tail rider. ha. I know so much less than all of you about the how's and the why's. I hardly even seem to be able to keep up with the rest of you lately (what with Mr. Grey and all his LISTS that he keeps adding to. I don't even know half of the movies on them) But that is the beauty of it all.. I don't HAVE to. I can just sit here with my friends and listen to you all tell me all about them.. (and every now and then I will chime in with a blurb or a blab) It has been a good long time since I did any real rambling.. ha. But that is ok.. you all STILL count me in because you are my friends. And I appreciate that very much and am grateful to folks just for putting up with me. And little gal.. I want you to know that look forward to each and every one of your posts.. I enjoy them very much. And more importantly.. I enjoy YOU, dear friend. I like hearing your thoughts and ideas and your likes and dislikes.. and I enjoy getting to know you. You have a great eye for HOW movies are put together.. but you accompany that with a great heart.. for the WHY a movie is (or is not) the way it is put together. And you have a great insight into the characters too, and what makes them tick. I feel certain that in many ways, our personalities are quite different. And we have different tastes too.. but we have a LOT in common, all the same, And though we really are miles apart.. it is like having a dear friend over to tea.. or coffee.. I don't know.. Dr. Pepper, even. HA! Whatever we feel like sipping down while we enjoy each other's company. ha The point is the conversation. And it is always good. Thanks again, little darlin'... for the kind words.. but mostly just for being my friend. .
  13. Howdy there, Mr. Grey, We've also been hit by the snow. We got about a half of foot of wet snow on Monday and then a slushy mix on Wednesday that about killed me and my back AGH! I would make some sort of wisecrack about how you deserve such a fate (for your wisecracks about my cooking, ha, but it has been such a rotten week this past week.. with all the snow (ALL the snow) we've gotten. I can't wish harm on anyone. That snow shoveling is NO fun. (Hoping for a better week for ALL of us, if only we can get a break in the weather) It's a tedious, unwieldy process. Only a select few can compose such kind of lists. The vast majority of people don't want to break things down to such levels. That's understandable I think it is a personality trait that some have.. and others don't. I just am not sort of "organized" thinker that way.I have a lot of "favorites" so I can't usually rank them very well. Lists of favorite things are really very subjective. And yet it takes a lot of objectivity to be able to just sit down and rank them in any kind of order. I am TOO subjective about it that I can't BE objective. ha. So I do have a lot of "general" categories that I put things into (for likes and dislikes). But not in any sort of concrete, cut and dried "this is the BEST/WORST /MOST/LEAST of the things I like" kinda way. I likely have too much "subjectivity" in my "objective thinking, ha. And not just for "things" but also situations.. and yes, possibly even people, if I am honest. Which is kinda funny, because I think the reason I CAN'T list things that specifically is that I try to be as objective as possible (especially when we are talking about people.. or situations) For all my "black and white" ways, I do like to give most people the benefit of the doubt, if I can. So I guess I am a contradiction in terms. I can tell you something I like or don't like.. and I can even tell you why.. but don't ask me to pick "the lesser of the greater" of those things.. ha. It is TOO subjective of a thing for me to be so objective about it. (HA.. No WONDER I am so lousy at list making.) I love lists because I find them to be a quick way to learn a person and their interests. I have also used lists to understand worlds I'm trying to learn. When I first got into classic film, I'd check out lists of "favorite westerns" by customers at Amazon. I was just trying to find a place to start You are right that they can be both a good indicator for people and their interests.. as well as a good way to find new favorites for yourself as well. (I have found many a new movie to enjoy just from hanging out here on the ole message board and reading all the comments and perusing people's lists, too. Oh, no, no, no. You misread my listing. I said Night Train to Munich was the very first film I watched of the 1000 films. It's not my favorite of the group OK.. now I get it.. so tell me more about Deadline at Dawn then. in case you are wondering, The African Queen is # 266 overall for me and is # 89 for the 50s. It's definitely one of the 50 best films I watched of the 1000 Aghh.. this is not boding well for me. ha. I picked it up the other day and just tried to watch it last night. (Notice I said TRIED!) I don't know what there was about it.. but I totally (totally) lost interest about the first five minutes in. ha. (I know! It's a BELOVED classic by Bogie and Kate fans all over the world! What is WRONG with me???) ha. I kept it on.. I DID.. I tried several times to keep at it and stay interested.. but I just got so distracted by almost EVERY other thing in the room, ha. (The kidling.. other projects that I had sitting on nearby table that I kept picking up and putting down.. the lint on the blanket I was wrapped up in.. ha.. ANYTHING was more interesting that that movie) Oh me.. I am ashamed to confess it. I finally (FINALLY) just gave up and turned it off and decided to try again one more time, later this week. Maybe when I am less distracted. (because you know.. I likely was just not giving it a fair shake, because that LINT can just be so interesting.. it was not fair for me to try and watch a movie when there was LINT to be noticed on my blanket) HA.. did I mention the other day when I told you I was looking forward to watching this movie.. to picture me.. rolling my EYES at it??? Ok.. ok.. I know.. enough whining.. I promise... No REALLY! I'll try again in a lint-free environment and let you know what happens.
  14. HELLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Mr. Grey!! Sorry it has taken me so long to chime in on your lists, sir. It's been a whacky few weeks so far this year. (on top of all the weather) Today we all had a snow day (yippeeee) and tomorrow is another one.. so am finally able to settle back and do a bit more than scroll through some of the stuff I have missed out on. Too much to try and CATCH up though.. so will just make a few comments on your last post to me first.. OH.. and before I go any further.. let me also say that I have read what you said about my culinary skills (over in another thread in another forum.) I hope your headcold is much better.. even if you DID "dis" my cooking.. ha. I wish I had time to go over into that thread too and give you a good slapdown.. or hat pin jab.. as the case may be. But will only say HERE that I call that mighty brave talk for a man who eats SAWDUST and likes it!! In the meantime.. I'm not a writer Ha.. you coulda fooled ME. I think you have a great way of expressing your thoughts. I like how you mix facts in with your opinions on the movies you watch. You inform (just enough to be interesting.. but not enough to be "over my head" with facts and details and you are entertaining too. (You are a good read for folks like me who just enjoy films without having too much "head knowledge" about how they are made and why.. and who made them, etc. etc. ha. I learn a lot from everyone you chat with too. Just from your conversations. So it is fun to read your lists and the resulting conversations. What can I say.. I like to be the "eavesdropper" in your movie lists conversations sometimes, just so I can glean all the cool information from everyone. ha. Or wait.. hmmm... if I am READING instead of listening.. does that make me an "eyedropper" (not an "eavesdropper" ????? Ha. Inquiring minds wanna know.) Whatever you call it.. it is a fun read. Well, I do have every film ranked by every decade. My master list for classic film only goes to about 500 Just the fact that you have a list that organized is almost a thing of beauty. ha. I could never get my opinions on something so subjective (as movies) that well pinned down. The films I KNOW I like are all in one big "lump" ha. there are films that are higher up in the lump.. some that I like more than others.. and films that are all squished into the middle.. that I like well enough.. but may not be favorites.. and then there are the ones that I like near the bottom.. but can't say they were the best overall. But if you tried to get me to put them in any sort of ORDER.. ha. I think my head would explode. Meanwhile... the films I KNOW I DON"T Like.. those are easier for me to explain. (usually) but I don't think even then that I could rate them. (what can I say.. my brain just is too "jumbled" to be able to lay out stuff like that in any sort of order) I'd have to see what the heck I actually watched in those 1000 films. I can tell you Night Train to Munich is the first of the 1000 and Zero Hour! is the last. Currently, Night Train to Munich is # 172 for the 40s and Zero Hour! is # 210 for the 50s. Neither is in my top 500 Great googly-moogly, man. See what I mean.. you are a list making master. How in the world can you be that precise in the way you list those things?? So what makes Night Train to Munich the cream of your 1000 movie list crop?? That is not one I have seen before.. should I see it??? (and WHY???) ha. (yet again.. inquiring minds wanna know!) the latest batch of films that I have watched Good gravy.. I don't think I have seen but maybe 2 or 3.. will have to check through the whole list more thoroughly (sometimes after I look them up I realize I have seen one of them... just did not remember it by name) I DO know I have seen two for certain: The Man From Monterey (fun early Duke film.. not as good as some, though.. if I am remembering right) And Rachel and the Stranger (I have always enjoyed this movie.. love Loretta, love Holden.. AND Mitchum too. Will look forward to hearing your thoughts on this one. OH.. and I have only seen part of Our Vines Have Tender Grapes.. but what I saw, I really liked. Will hope to finally see it all the way through sometime. Meanwhile.. guess what movie THIS girl found (on the library internet database.. after some more serious searching) Yep.. Kate and Bogey.. just sitting there waiting for me. I had our library order it in for me and I just got the notice the other day that it is in. But I have not been able to get out and get it. And NOW with the gazillion inches of SNOW we got today.. ha.. Who KNOWS when we'll get dug out enough for me to be able to go pick it up??? ha. But I will.. very soon. (no.. really.. I mean it!! Honest.. I will) Oh me.. Kate and Bogie on a boat.. bickering back and forth.. yippee. (she said in a sarcastic tone) ha. Oh bruddah.. I can hardly wait.. (picture me rolling my eyes, even as we speak!) Ok, Ok.. enough whining.. I will try to keep an open mind. (afterall.. you DID watch EOS, BOTRK, and Arsenic and Old Lace, not to mention Alice Adams.. oh brother.. I am digging a hole for myself just listing them all) I guess the very LEAST I can do is watch THIS one movie.. just for you. I suppose.. (if I have to)
  15. OH.. and PS: Grey Dude.. I am still making my way through your latest comments.. I will hope to stop in sometime soon and gab. I've really enjoyed reading everything so far!)
  16. Poor kid.. I know it is a hassle losing all your stuff. I never just "hit" reply anymore and post in one step. I get timed out a lot so I have just gotten in the habit of finishing what I want to say (however long or short) and then I do a "cut" of the whole text.. and then I go down to the spot where it says "discard" and I discard the blank box. and then I go back in and click reply again to paste my whole text and THEN I hit "post message" I have learned that is the only sure way I can hold onto what I did and not lose it if I got to wordy and ended up typing so long that I timed myself out. (ha.. yeah.. like I would ever post anything that was "too wordy" ) And so this way if I am knocked off of here. it can log me back in before I actually try to post. I don't know if it is all that big a hassle for me to do it or not.. I have been doing it so long, I guess I am used to it. ha. But I do wish it were easier, I agree. At any rate.. post as you can.. take your time and do what you can, when you can. I don't get to pop in here to gab as often as I used too.. but I do enjoy reading your thoughts when I am able.. would be shame to see less of you on here, dear girl. Hang in there.
  17. Oh dear.. The Maven had a birthday, and the day got completely past me!! (too many irons in my fire this weekend) But HEY, it looks like the party is still going on.. maybe it's not too late to celebrate, after all. Happy Belated Birthday, Miss Maven! Hope it was a happy one!
  18. I watched 402 films for the first time to make it to 1000 films in the past three years Wowsa!! What a record.. you don't need to write a synopsis of your latest round of movies.. you oughta write a BOOK!! I would love to hear how all 1000 films rate for you. (not just compared to each other.. but to your whole list of fave as well.. (If anyone is up to that kinda list-making task it would be you, O great Obiwan of List-making and Records. ) Wish I had more time to read through some of the comments on here already.. but will have to come back later and read more. For now just have to say (no big surprise) I have not seen hardly any on this latest list.. but DID want to say that I love that Steamboat Bill Jr. rated so high.. I am only surprised you had it an number one.. still.. it is a good one. Glad you enjoyed it! Meanwhile.. I also just wanted to comment... 8. Miracle on 34th Street 12. The Way West WHAT??? What kind of a crazy mixed up world am I living in that you would post a list where a "warm fuzzy" Santa movie with a cute (if skeptical) little kid and lots of "hokey" Christmas humor out ranks a tragic, grueling tale of a long, harrowing journey across the open plain.. filled with flawed characters and even a little "floosy" to make things more interesting????? WHAT is the world coming to?? ha. Ok.. where is FrankGrimes and WHAT have you done with him?? (PS.. Bonjour Monsieur Laffite.. nice to see you posting around these parts again)
  19. Hello folks.. just dropping by to say Happy Birthday and a great big Howdy to wish a certain cowgirl we know a very nice day!! Hope it is a good one, Ms. Cutter! (saw this little youtube and hoped it would bring you a smile) Best wishes to you!!
  20. Howdy there Santa Dude... Mothers! I go out in shorts You kids today!! ha. (what oh WHAT are we going to do with you??? Don't you know that it is WINTER out there??? ha.) Would serve you right if you get ice in your hair from going outside with wet hair too. (another of my pet peeves) Shorts indeed! You don't have to drive all over the state to get it! I'm sure it will show up on TCM next year Ha.. actually it is less that 6 or 7 miles away.. not exactly "all over the state" but I don't really go that direction too often so not sure if I will get there or not. I bet you are right, that it will be shown again soon.. sometime. I just don't like having you hanging anything over my HEAD! ha. We'll see how my week goes. I am off work this week, so will see what I can do. (but I make no promises.. ha. I am old and the kidling is keeping me hopping the last few days with all the stuff she's been wanting to do over Christmas break) Santa played it safe Smart Santa!! The older kids get the harder it can be to pick things out that they are going to like (at least sometimes) so gift cards are SMART thinkin'! But it sounds like you had some good ideas with the other gifts too.I bet little Miss Scarlett will enjoy those tunes.. that is a great idea for a little one. Great job, Santa! My Christmas was pretty nice. I hope yours was, as well Glad you have had a nice holiday.. ours has been a bit out of the ordinary in some respects.. but its all good. Very good to have some time off and just happy to get to spend some time with the "fam" too.
  21. And here I thought you simply heard voices HA!!! Not too often.. but when I do.. I usually hear things like: "get a rope.. where's my hatpin.. break out the giant squid!" HA. You know.. important stuff like that. :p Merry Christmas to you, Mr. Grey. Hope Santa didn't leave you TOO much coal in your stocking this year. All kidding aside.. I hope you and the "Grey-fam" had a very lovely day. Here's to a safe, healthy, happy New Year!
  22. Thanks for saying that, Wouldbestar.. but "voice of reason" is not something I often hear used to describe me.. ha. More like "blabbermouth" I am sure I do enjoy getting a chance to gab and blab on here.. though not much time for it these days. But I do enjoy getting a chance now and then to pop in and see what everyone has to say. Best wishes to you and yours this Christmas.
  23. To all my TCM friends and family...
  24. An Artic Good Morning to you Mr. Grey!! Or is it Queen of the Flurries Ha.. not TOO much snow.. but oh me, oh my.. oh me, oh my oh me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is it ever COLD around here. Just getting ready to go out to even check the mail requires so many layers that well... you know.. Now that does surprise me. It's such a big film It surprised me too.. I was sure the library would have it. (ha.. if I wasn't such a tightwad I would go out and buy it. but alas) Meanwhile.. if I can get out to the library in the next county (there are a few different library systems in our area.. I use the one in my county because they have a branch right here in town.. but they do have another in the next city north of us..we don't go there too often, but maybe can check there. At any rate.. sooner or later, I DO plan to get to it.. because.. ha. I cannot let you have so much POWER over me.. out there watching so many movies and me still dragging my feet on this one Meanwhile... Have you donned your RED hat for a change (instead of that Black one you always wear) Mr. Grey??? What are all the nieces and cousins, etc, etc all getting for Christmas this year Uncle Santa?? Hope you have yourself a Merry Little Christmas, sir
  25. Hello there Mr. Grey, Sorry to pop in and out so quickly. You have some great chats going on here.. sure wish I had time to stay and chat more, but maybe next week. Meanwhile.. just to keep from falling TOO way behind.. will make a couple of quick comments: Union Station... I thought it was terrific. Quiet Gal would really like it It does look like fun.. I wanted to see if it were on youtube.. did not find it. (meanwhile.. same sad story with (aghh) The African Queen, by the way.. not at the library either ... I thought SURE it would be.. will keep looking) But back to Union Station.. thanks for the tip.. will keep an eye out for it. (this makes TWO Barry F detective type movies I need to be watching out for.. good golly.. I will never catch up around here. ha) Will have to try and comment more on your list another time. I do like the Vernonica Lake (witch) movie.. it is fun (and yet also creepy and sinister in places, ha) all at the same time. Also glad you found SHE to be fun.. I thought you might enjoy it at least a LITTLE bit. That gal is right up your alley!
