  1. Thanks for the great pics!! What a treat. It is fun to learn new things about favorite classic stars. You know--when you are a kid, you hear "Hollywood" and you just automatically assume everybody knows everybody....but as you grow up you understand that even if that were true...personalities don't always mix...so it is nice to hear when they do!! Thanks again for the photos!!!
  2. Never saw either but the one that sounds most interesting has got to be Santa Claus Conquers the Martians The Polar Express or Midnight Express
  3. Well--it's nice to have an outlet for all these loose rocks rolling around in what I used to call my brain... So here's one more before the old woman hits the hay... Cameron Diaz ....James Cameron Cameron Cameron ( or Cameron Diaz-Cameron since she is likely going to want to keep that name recognition thing going with all the films she's had out over the last few years) :-)
  4. Big....Titanic Cat on a Hot Tin Roof...The Curse of the Cat People Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation....Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House....Mr. Smith Goes to Washington...Mr Deeds Goes to Town
  5. Cher and Max Baer.....Cher Baer (Oh no--not another one of these word games that will keep me awake all night!!) :-)
  6. My two favorite actresses in musicals have always been Doris Day and Judy Garland. Both have very different singing (and acting) styles...and both led very differnt lives. Who is your farvorite??? I have a hard time deciding who I like better--and then I have to ask myself...why do I have to choose??? So I will say for my own answer...BOTH My favorite Doris Day: On Moonlight Bay My favorite Judy Garland: (it's a tie) The Wizard of Oz and Meet Me in St. Louis For me, all of these movies are as much about the supporting cast as they are about these two women ...I loved the whole collection of characters, dances and songs. When I was a kid, I always looked forward to seeing these three movies listed in the TV Guide. And since Wizard of Oz is the only one I have on tape--I still do!! :-)
  7. I did not think I would enjoy this movie when my husband told me he wanted to watch it (he has an old vhs tape he made from a long time ago)... I was surprised when I found myself getting caught up in the story. Very much enjoyed it after all...Hate it when I have to admit my husband was right!!! :-)
  8. Back at it again....just getting my daily fix----may be almost ready for that 12 step program. :-) Falling Down Mexico Way Lady in the Water World Custer's Last Stand by Me All the President's Men in Black My Big Fat Greek Wedding Singer How Green was My Valley of the Dolls The Hunt for Red October Sky Clear and Present Dangerous Liasons
  9. Now see...I could have gone on believing it was Teresa Wright and been none the wiser..Like I said...WHOEVER it was that played the daughter--she was very lovely and innocent. (at least on film) As far as the "cold shoulder"...or um...arm... sometimes there is nothing quite so powerful as the power of suggestion... I am sure it had something to do with the reading material she was concentrating on at the time!! And as I recall...this movie used a lot of suggested "scares" without showing too much REAL "scares"....so there again... the power of suggestion! :-)
  10. Insomnia The Big Sleep Deep Impact What Lies Beneath A Midsummer's Night Dream Nightmare on Elm Street Coal Miner's Daughter Native Son Guess Who's Coming To Dinner? Natural Born Killers Hamburger Hill Attack of the Killer Tomatoes Sea of Grass The Lawn Mower Man
  11. Mr 6666 It's been a few days--thought this would bump the thread up a little and maybe get you a complete answer--Just checking in--since my answer was only half right-- I have a question to pose...but did not want to jump in yet if you are still waiting for a reply from a more reliable (and better qualified--I am sure) source. :-)
  12. Good job everybody!! Here's a few more: The Quiet Man From Snowy River Lilies of the Field of Dreams North by Northwest Side Story Sling Blade Runner Death Takes a Holiday Inn Bringing Up Baby Take a Bow Empire of the Sun Also Rises While You Were Sleeping With the Enemy The Sword in the Stone Cold Killer Father of the Bride of Frankenstein Laura Croft Tomb Raiders of The Lost Ark Angel in My Pocketful of Miracles The Good the Bad and the Ugly Dachshund And do I get extra points for *3 movie titles in one*??? You Can't Take it With You Only Live Once Upon a Time in the West
  13. I didn't remember it being Teresa Wright until you mentioned it...I just love her. And she was so lovely and innocent in this movie. Thanks for the title...I will keep an eye out for it again.
  14. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ( Truly Scrumptious--both a song and a character's name I think) NW forgiven
  15. Wow--you all are doing a great job!! How about: (and I won't post anymore anytime soon or my brain may explode!) Sleeping With the Enemy Mine Dubarry was a Lady and the Tramp The Caine Mutiny on the Bounty A Bronx Tale of Two Cities A Star is Born on the Fourth of July Carry on folks...you are doing a great job!!!
  16. Can't stand too much blood and guts (eew--ick--eew) but don't mind a good scare: I think it is much more frightening when it's not a supernatural villian but a real live nightmare on two legs: Psycho--terrifying, but not so graphic it can't be watched. Night of the Hunter--could not get the sound of Robert Mitchum's voice calling those kids out of my head!! Cape Fear (hmm...wasnt' that Mitchum again???) although I did also see the remake...thought Diniro was adequately creepy as well. Have always enjoyed the old monster movies--Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Mummy. Also most of the early werewolf films--before they got too disgusting to watch. (ok. I admit it-- I am just a big sissy.) Also like a good ghost story now and then---there was one I watched on TCM a while back but can't recall the name--a brother and sister buy a house that is being haunted by two ghosts--a bitter angry wife and the beautiful mistress. The wife's ghost has a vendetta against the daughter of the mistress. And the mistress tries to protect the daughter. I enjoyed the movie, but forgot to make note of the name. One that my brothers and I watched a couple of times when we were kids was a Vincent Price film...I think it was called "Tomb of Ligea" ???(Probably spelled it wrong) VERY scary as I recall. We still have a running joke where one of us will open our eyes real wide and the other one of us will close them like Price did to the dead woman after a cat jumped on her body at the grave sight. (But what can I say- we have always had a weird sense of humor about stuff like that) More recent faves include The Others and What Lies Beneath (very scary--at least it was for me)
  17. ...Is there a 12-Step Program for this thread? HA! It is kind of fun once you get going. I have a few more---just another little Ping to your Pong. :-) A Foreign Affair to Remember Beauty and the Beast Must Die Calamity Jane Eyre A Bridge too Far and Away Remains of the Day the Earth Stood Still The REAL question is : Is there a 12-step Program for this entire website...it is very addicting.
  18. You're a natural!!! (Loved the ones with The Egg and I /King and I ) How about... It Happened One Night At the Museum To Kill a Mockingbird on a Wire National Treasure of the Sierra Madre The Maltese Falcon and the Snowman
  19. Good point--I agree that kids need to develop an appreciation for classic movies--much like they need help in a lot of areas understanding that world has not always been about mp3 players and text messaging. We have several classics on vhs that our kids have watched with us over the years from time to time and a few of them are movies that have even been remade--and (surprisingly) everybody still seems to prefer the originals (example--Mighty Joe Young and War of the Worlds--are BIG favorites) The key for us has been to not "over do" them so they are a "treat" when we get to watch them. Not like all the newer DVD's that kids seem to watch over and over again--until they are no longer "special" Ok--I will step down from the soap box and answer the thread...we watched 20 Million Miles to Earth the other night....huge hit with the under 10 crowd! ( and the over 40 too!) :-)
  20. Great job! I knew some of you more seasoned post-ers would be able to come up with some good ones. Here are a few more: Hang 'Em High Noon Dr. Doolittle Big Man The Empire Strikes Back to the Future In the Heat of the Night of the Iguana Keep 'em coming folks! :-)
  21. I love Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed in "It's A Wonderful Life" What a cute couple--especially in the beginning at the dance when they fall in the pool--then later when he is walking her home. And I always enjoy the phone call scene where he spends all his efforts telling her how he isn't going to marry her all the while they are both about to pass out from the heavy breathing! And I love the wedding night scene with the two friends serenading them out in the rain. Too Sweet! I also like John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara in the Quiet Man. When he offers her a handful of holy water and also when they go for their first walk together and get caught in the rain. And I really like after they are married where they finally make peace for the first time and she is sitting on his lap in front of the fire. Probably one of the best romantic moments in the film and not a word is spoken.
  22. Haven't seen a Thread like this one on here, so hope I am not overlooking anything someone else has started. I love word games...thought this might be a new challenge for all you classic movie gurus out there. Your mission if you choose to accept it.... Take one movie title and add another on to the end of it.(PS--It doesn't have to make sense, the titles just have to match up in the middle) Thanks for playing...good luck! Examples: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea of Grass The Quiet Man of La Mancha A River Runs Through It Happened One Night.
