I still cannot believe Quiet Gal refuses to take her vitamins Hahahahaha... that is because I am still waiting for you to deliver them to me.. out here.. at the ROCK QUARRY. Come on down!
-
And see, you guys are filling in all the gaps (huge gaping gaps) in my "Monty" realm of knowledge. ha.. because I did not even know he had an accident. I did know he had some issues w/ substance abuse, maybe vaguely recall some references to that in other chats on here, or on tv.. but wowsa. Sounds like he led a pretty tragic life. Such a shame for a guy that some folks might have thought had everything, back in the day.
-
Thanks for finding it for me, Miss G.. the pics you have posted are first rate.. and I enjoyed reading your chat w/ the Grey Dude on here too. (and ha.. wow.. those movie posters are way over the top in some of their portrayals of what this movie was about.. ha. What a way to sell a picture)
-
No worries, Miss Mimi.. what you wrote earlier actually makes pretty good sense, in the long run. (because you can really see the physical toll of all that self abuse on his face. I remember thinking that he did not look as "pretty" in this film as I recall him in other movies. Still, it was good that for whatever reason.. and after reading all this between your comments, Miss G's and my own perception of things, I am thinking it must have been a combination of the story, his personal demons and as Miss G suggested, Hitchcock's movie making skills that all the issues that might have been a stumbling block in some ways still managed to produce an end result that came off as just really good story telling somehow. And you are right.. the ending was a good one as there was NO sure way to tell how it was going to finally play out. (semi-spoiler alert) I was pretty sure about Otto's fate. but I was NOT so sure how those details were going to finally come out.. and how it was going to end for Clift's character. Pretty suspenseful and a bit of "edge or your seat" kinda stuff for a movie that was so subdued in so many other ways. PS: Miss Butterscotchie.. I only just saw Stage Fright a year or so ago for the first time. Loved it.. what a fun movie. (and a great performance by Wyman)

Good "eeeevening".. ha.. er, um, good MOOORRRRning Miss G, It is very engrossing once I sit to watch it, even though it doesn't pop up in mind when I first think of Hitch's movies. Like The Wrong Man, it's rather somber in tone and Hitch's usual humor is conspicuously absent Engrossing and somber are two very good words to use regarding this story and the way it is played out on film. I think the darker and more brooding tone for Clift's character even belied who he "normally" was as a member of the parish, too. (maybe.. I am only presuming, since we don't really get to see him that way) It's a rich movie with a lot of inner turmoil projected in my opinion, very successfully. I mean, how DO you show an audience the struggling of a man's conscience (without resorting to a lot of dialogue That's it exactly. The idea of his "inner struggle" is what made this story (and Clift's acting" work so well for me. It would be very hard to go through your day like that.. knowing what he knew.. and seeing what he was seeing and hearing what he was hearing.. having all sorts of things done and said to you.. and about you.. and not just go all PEACEMAKER on somebody before it was over with ha. (but of course, I am saying that from a totally Peacemaker point of view. ) I really did think it was a fine piece of acting on Clift's part that way that all played out. (and now I hear it was likely just because he was drunk.. what a let down, ha) Either way.. I am with you, Hitchcock used what he had.. and took the story where it needed to go.. at least for me, anyway. I did enjoy it very much. I looked around a little bit in here to try and find your earlier posts, but could not seem to find them. I think you are right though, in that the setting and the "foreign" feel added to the package (and I loved Malden's detective.. (ha.. and it was refreshing to see him in a not as "creepy" sort of role for a change.. ha) He was on the case, but not too over the top. (in fact he was almost subtle in a few places.. a bit "cat and mouse" in the way he spoke, until he got to the point, and then he spoke plainly.. VERY much so. It was a good character. I love Life Boat, too and can't wait for you to see it---I predict you will really like this one and I'm surprised you haven't watched it before. How wonderful to have a great Hitch movie to discover I am really looking forward to it. (and am glad that it is coming on Sat night before it airs again on Sunday am.. because otherwise I'd have to miss it) I am nowhere near the Hitchcock expert that some of you folks on here are.. so there are still some Hitch's I have yet to see that have been on my list a while (and some I have only seen once that would like to see again.) But Lifeboat is one that I can say has always been at or near the top of my Hitch wannasee's for a good long while. So will be glad to check it out, for sure. That is... if my TCM secretaries will help me remember and can keep me advised of my appointment to watch it. ha.. I am getting so old and forgetful these days, I will need all the help I can get. HA. (and PS: I will pay my usual salary.. it IS Belgian Chocolate, isn't it??) Edited by: rohanaka on Sep 9, 2013 11:14 AM

Well Mimi.. I know next to nothing.. ha.. maybe less that nothing about Clift or his personal life and struggles.. so this is all news to me. I just thought his performance was very much as I described, tense and intense.. due to the personal struggles he was facing.. and found that a very good way to go with that character considering the details of the story. But now I hear it was just his personal tragedies making him look that way. Who knew?

Hello Miss G.. Just wanted to pop in here to say I am enjoying Hitch Sundays this month. I just enjoyed watching I Confess for the first time. I really liked Clift's character (and that is saying a lot because I am not too huge on him sometimes) He was very "close to the vest" in this one and not overt at all in his portrayal.. some might have even found him boring.. ha. But I liked the way he carried himself all through the entire story. Very tense and very Intense all at the same time. Way cool (at least I found him that way, anyway) Wouldn't say this one was a tippy top favorite, most likely, but I did enjoy it well enough, so am glad to have caught it. Also want to say that I am VERY much looking forward to seeing Life Boat next week.. that one has been on my wanna see list for a couple of years.) So happy to see Hitch get the spotlight this way .. a fun way to spend a few hours here and there, all month long.

OH, and PS: Grey Dude.. regarding Chaplin.. I meant to mention that the kidling and I recently watched The Circus a few months ago. We LOVED it.. very funny in all the right places but also sweet and quite poignant in many ways too. Not sure how I would rate it compared to some of the others that are being mentioned.. but it really was a sweet film, as I recall.

Your day is a full one Ha.. sometimes it is TOO full (too many irons in my fire, lately) But other times, it is slow and pretty low-key. Sometimes things will slow down around here to the point that you can almost sit and watch the grass grow (ha.. did I ever mention that I am boring?? Ok.. I know.. I didn't have to, did I??) Chaplin was probably the biggest figure in the classic film world I had yet to check out. Buster Keaton (I've seen a little of his work) and Laurel & Hardy will probably follow him. There are other "giants" I've yet to get to. D.W. Griffith is a major one. Akira Kurosawa is a significant one. It's all a matter of timing And see, I have not seen much of any of the others you mention. (a handful of Keatons and L&H movies, maybe.. a few Griffiths.. Ithink (to be honest, I'd have to check) and I don't think I've seen any for Kurosawa that I know of. Ha.. so we are in the same boat there. But I do love a good Chaplin. I think it's great that your daughter and Jackie's daughter both like Chaplin. That says a lot about them Don't ask me why, but I remember a chat from a LONG time ago that I had on here with Jackie once.. and we were talking about Modern Times in fact. .and how funny the kidling thought it was. At that time, I think Jackie had said that her daughter was more into L&H only she called them the "Fat one and the thin one" ha. And I told her that my kidling thought that Chaplin was Robert Goulet. (HA.. and the only reason she knew who HE was is because of some nut commercial that used to come on about how some brand of nut snacks were so good you had to hide them, or Robert Goulet would come and steal them.. and then there as Robert Goulet sneaking into someone's office a la Mission Impossible to steal somebody's bag of nuts. ha) So anyway.. the kidlng used to LOVE that commercial, so when she saw Modern Times for the first time she was maybe 5(?) and she said, "Look mom, he looks like Robert Goulet. Ha.. so Jackie and I decided that Robert Osborn should host a night of silent comedies just for our two daughters and call it "An evening of The Fat One, the Thin One, and the guy who looks like Robert Goulet" HA!!!!!!!!!!! (oh the memories) Meanwhile, don't ask me why I can remember THAT obscure conversation from like 5 yrs ago.. but I can't remember to pick up a bottle of dishwashing liquid at the grocery store (duh.. took me THREE trips before I remembered that one.. ha) As I was watching the film, I kept thinking to myself, "this surely ain't Quiet Gal's speed." I never think the restrained British works is "you." Well, except for Jane Austen Ha.. I am not too "British" when it comes to humor, for sure. but now Jane Austen is a whole other story, isn't she?? Night Must Fall and Shadow of a Doubt are much classier films, even though all three feature a nut. I like that you linked them together "Classier" is a PERFECT way to say it.. ha. Those two films are in a completely different WORLD if you want to compare them to AKBD in terms of class.. ha. But I just meant that they were similar in idea when it comes to "pretty boy" nutjobs run amuck. ha. I think you would appreciate the "Charlie Chan" flicks the very most. I believe your daughter may like The Thief of Bagdad. I'm not sure if you would I will have to check into the Chan's. I have seen bits and pieces over the years, but to be honest, I don't think I can ever recall seeing one all the way through. As for TTOB.. I think (after taking a closer look, thanks to your youtube link) I MAY have actually seen this movie.. or at least part of it. But I have no clear memory of when or how much I have seen. But I do think I have seen it before. I don't know if the kidling would go for it or not.. she does like the Sinbad movies, (7th Voyage of Sinbad is a huge family favorite here) So maybe she would enjoy this one too. (depends on how fast it moves, possibly) If I had to pick one film you'd like the most it would be The Window. I think you'd like that one Well... ha, this must be my night for thinking of OLLLLLDDDD chats I have had before on here, because after I read through all your comments and thought about it a bit.. I think I remember someone.. possibly Miss G(?) mentioning this movie to me and recommending it and I even recall keeping an eye out for it a few times over the years, but eventually it dropped off my radar and I have not ever gotten a chance to see it. I will see if I can find it sometime and try to give it a looksee. Have you seen Comin' Round the Mountain ? If you like A&C, I think you'd like this one. Has your daughter seen any A&C She has not.. and she may or may not be a good candidate for it, (because she does not have much tolerance of that sort of comedy.. a stronger "bully" type character picking on the "weaker" comic relief. She would likely go all "Peacemaker" on Bud and tell him off the first time he started slapping Lou around. ha. Meanwhile, I can't recall if I have ever seen the one you are asking about. I have seen MANY of them way back when I was a kid.. but golly.. ha.. I am staring down the barrel of "fifty" these days, so you know.. my memory only stretches back so far now.. ha. The ones that stand out the most for me are the "horror" ones (where they meet Dracula or Frankenstein, or something like that, ha) and I also remember a couple of the military ones.. where they end up in the Army (and the McGuire sisters (or was it the Andrews sister???) end up singing a lot) One that I remember a LOT and recall liking is not your typical "Bud and Lou" movie because Lou is not teamed up w/ Bud (though they are both IN the movie) Lou and some girl are actually ghosts (that were from like the Revolutionary war) and they are haunting some wishing well, or something like that.. Ha. It has been so long, I can't recall it all, I just remember I liked it.. at the time, anyway. But I confess.. ha.. I may not have all the details right about it because good golly, I think I was like 13 when I saw that one and that was like.. um.. 1976????????????????? (goodness me, I really AM old, aint I??)

Well I just have to say WOWSA, Mr. Grey.. I never cease to be amazed at your ability to know what you like and rate it so thoroughly. You have a real knack for list making to be able to reason your way through such a mixed batch and come up with an order for how well you did or did not like them. (and why) Great job, sir. And thanks for the youtube links. I appreciate you saving me the time.. ha Because I do like to try and at least take a quick glance at some of the ones you list. One of these days maybe I'll be able to sit down and actually WATCH some of them all the way through!! (ha) May I just second, third, fourth... ha. (I have lost count) how good it is to see Chaplin rate so high with you. I can see you liking him though. In fact I had NO idea you had not seen any of them. We are big fans here. The kidling REALLY enjoys them, and I am with Miss G.. he is a true artist the way he can crack you up and break your heart within a single moment. (The Gold Rush is a HUGE fave here.. so I am glad are looking into it.. and The Kid is one I have only seen once, I think.. so would like to try and revisit it myself maybe soon so can be ready to talk with you about it. It is a work of art. (and I think The Great Dictator would be RIGHT up your alley.. duh.. don' know why it never occurred to me that you might not have seen any of his films) This is going to be exciting to hear your reviews on his films. Ha.. and WHY (oh why) am I NOT surprised that of the three films I suggested to you that you rated the one I like LEAST the highest (for you) ha. (#13 even.. wowsa) I do confess that there were portions of this film I truly enjoyed, but can't say that it would rate very high for me at all on any sort of list. ha. Just way too "dark" (or maybe to borrow from you.. to British, ha) But OH me.. I am sorry to see my beloved Madame X down so low. (but not surprised at all about what you said about the ending.. I was expecting that.. but I had hoped that maybe the rest of the story and dear Gladys would help to make up for it) Alas. 33. A Kiss Before Dying -- Who knew Quiet Gal liked some trash HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To be honest.. there IS an element of "trash" to it, isn't there?? ha But it was fun trash all the same. That BUD was just so hideous, and crime show junkie that I am.. ha.. I just kept WAITING for the FBI BAU team from Criminal Minds to show up any minute and take him down. As it was.. the truck did a better job anyway. I do like to see good psychological thriller type of story where one of the characters is crazy with an "undone" mind and he (or she) is just out there in the middle of people who are dangerously unaware of their "nuttiness" until SOMETHING sets them off and they come out of hiding in all their "koo-koo-ish glory" ha. (Night Must Fall would be a PERFECT example of a GREAT version of a story with that sort of feel.. Or maybe even Shadow of a Doubt. (which I enjoyed watching again the other night when it was on) would be another great example of that sort of tale. Ha.. so I guess A Kiss Before Dying would be the "trash" version of the "pyscho nutjob on the loose in plain site" theme. ha. But having said that.. I don't like things to get too graphic, so am glad that AKBD was only "shocking" sometimes but not "gruesome" in the way it was presented. So.. looking at your list.. what film (or films) do you think I need to jump on and watch soon. I need to go back and re-read your comments on everything because I have only skimmed through them for the moment, but I am with Jackie.. I am really interested in some of the westerns you mentioned. Are there any of those (or others) that you think I need to get to?? (ps.. Love that you enjoyed Bud and Lou.. I have not seen any of their films since I was MUCH (much, so very much) younger. ha.. but I do remember enjoying them a lot when I was a kid. )

How about you guessing if the films you have seen are in the top half (top 25) or bottom half of the 50 Ha... you KNOW I stink at this, and yet you ask. Ok.. hmmmmmmmmmmm... let's see... Between Two Worlds The Blob Imitation of Life (1959 Modern Times A Summer Place I'll put all those somewhere in your top 25. (though I have no idea where) But as for: Kind Hearts and Coronets, A Kiss Before Dying and Madame X (1937 Well THOSE were three that I told you about.. ha.. so we all KNOW you likely have them coming in something like, what.. maybe 48, 49, and 50??????????????????? Because you know.. I pick them, you hate them.. it IS some sort of law of nature, afterall...... HA!
-
Wowsa.. look at that LIST, Mr. Grey. You have been a busy, busy guy. I have never even HEARD of a lot of these movies (but at least you have watched so many this time that I HAVE heard of most of them, and can actually say I have seen a few of them too. I likely need to double check your list to make sure I am not overlooking a title that I don't remember seeing (ha.. because, lets face it.. I am getting old and sometimes I forget things, ha) But here are the ones on you list that I know for sure that I have seen: Between Two Worlds (unusual story, but I confess I like it) The Blob (fun monster movie) Imitation of Life (1959) (I like the Claudette Colbert version better) Kind Hearts and Coronets (very dark "comedy".. so dark its not really a comedy, in fact) would be interested in hearing your take A Kiss Before Dying (ha.. way more fun than I ever thought it would be) Madame X (1937) (will be very interested in hearing your thoughts.. this was one of my two most favorite "new" films that I watched all summer.. not sure what your take on it will be, but I truly was glad to have caught it) Modern Times (love it) A Summer Place (I haven't seen it in probably over 25 years or more but do remember watching it a couple of different times when I was a teenager.. probably prefer it to Peyton Place.. not exactly the same sort of movie, but still kind of soap opera-ish if I recall it all correctly) I could not even speculate what your top ten would be out of all the ones you listed (since there are so many I don't even know about on here) So you will have to take a look at your own list and tell ME which ones of your newbies that I should look into for myself. Meanwhile.. I am with Jackie.. Not to get TOO mushy on you Grey Dude.. ha. but I have missed your lists and comments. Will be on the edge of my seat here to see what all you have to say about it.

Can I just say that having a pregnant teen in the movie was pretty shocking to me in the first place It was not your typical story line to be sure. It really set a tone for Wagner's character too.. because of the way he treated her. To kill her off in cold blood totally went right over the edge Ha.. literally. But all kidding aside.. I am with you it was almost ahead of its time in the themes and the way Bud was presented. Not at all a typical tale. My German mother in law makes the best pork and sauerkraut and potatoes - she uses smoked pork chops which cook on top of the sauerkraut until they are incredibly tender. YUM Mm mm Good! That sounds delish.. let me know the next time she is making that.. ha. I will be right over!!
-
Ro, I can't believe you watched *A Kiss Before Dying*---what a freaky movie FREAKY is a perfect word.. ha. Sinister and freaky. (but I mean that in a good way) As much as I love The Pink Panther, in terms of Wagner THIS is the role I think was his best. Something about that pretty boy face hiding a sneaky mind. No wonder you posted it for FrankGrimes---perfect! Ha.. You know last night, I think I mentioned that I did not know much about him other than AKBD and Hart to Hart.. but I forgot that I ALSO remember him from The Mountain (with Spencer Tracy) OH me.. what a BRAT he was in that one too. he must have had a knack for playing spoiled, rotten monsters early in his career. (ha.. before he got "smooth") But even as rotten a guy as he was in The Mountain... I think BUD is tops (in terms of "rotten" ) SO ruthless and calculating. (and yet.. as you say.. such a pretty boy too) Still.. I don't know. I likely should see the other movie again, because its been so long.. it might be a toss up)
-
Well, well, well. If it isn't my old buddy BUD. Guess again! Of course, my list is up to 46. That's what happens when I don't write on the board OH good gravy. That means my choices for you to watch will likely all be lucky to make it out of the THIRTIES. (alas.. I am doomed.. DOOMED, I tell you) So go ahead.. tell me all my choices were ROTTEN.. ha. (I can take it) I think it's great that you actually sit her down and have real talks. I don't know how many parents do such things, anymore Well.. ha.. TALK is cheap sometimes. There are times when we can talk.. and she understands what she has done.. and corrects herself pretty well. But every now and then, of late, when she gets too full of herself.. we have to do a bit more than talk to get ourselves back in check. For instance... she recently just got finished writing a very detailed list citing three BETTER choices she can make rather than to argue with mom. (oh me.. she REALLY did not like that at all.. but honestly.. it works pretty well for her to do an exercise like that as a consequence sometimes.. because then if she starts to get out of line.. I ask her to go check her list and see if she can use one of those choices she wrote about.. rather than argue with me. (HA!) (Oh what a mean mother am I) But I have to say.. as silly as it sounds for me to use that as her consequence.. it DOES seem to work better than even losing privilege, etc. And at least she seems to be more or less reaching the understanding now that no matter how "grown up" she thinks she is getting.. she still has to obey me and she must not, may not, should not choose to be disrespectful while she is doing it. (What can I say.. she is a work in progress) And I am glad that she seems to be learning that the sooner she gets over her little moment.. the less I have to remind her to get over it. (because.. what ever you do.. don't MAKE me pull out my famous mom-ism...."I love you too much to let you act that way" ( Oh me.. you should SEE the eye rolling I get from THAT one. Oh me, oh my.. how WILL I ever survive the teen years if THIS is what ten is like?? Do they still have banana Sweet Tarts? That was always my favorite. I love banana-flavored candies Umm... Ewww. ha. (sorry Jackie) I am no fan of banana candy.. but I have usually only had stuff like lifesavers or lollipops in banana. (ick) I have never had any banana Sweet Tarts. (but then I am only a recent Sweet Tart convert.. ha. I bypassed them in the 80's back when they are Gi-Normous" ha. I just buy the little tiny ones.. and they are really sour.. but tasty too! (my fave is the purple. ha.. because around HERE.. whether we are talking candy.. or jello.. or soda.. the color is the flavor.. so yes.. purple is a flavor.. red is a flavor, etc, etc, etc. (ha. what can I say.. it's how we roll) I don't like brats Ha.. me neither.. did I mention that I will make you write sentences about not arguing... OH wait.. ha.. We are talking BRATwurst now. OH bruddah.. break out the sawdust. (banana flavored if you like.. ha) Good golly, boy.. you just don't know what is GOOD! instead of corned beef, it's pastrami Ok.. now that to me would be even worse than corned beef!!! Pass. The poor girl wanted to do whatever he wished. All of that made his act all the more stunning She just wanted the fairy tale.. but ended up w/ the horror story instead. I think though.. that she DID have her doubts about him. (at least momentary ones anyway) because she did not take the vitamins.. for example. But then he pulled out the magic "M" card (ha.. as in marriage) and that was it for her.. she was a push over for him (to be pushed over.. literally) from that point on. The sad truth was that she was way too immature to be leading the sort of life that let HIM be a part of the picture to begin with. (where oh WHERE was her dad?????) But I digress.. Meanwhile.. No, these are special vitamins for expecting mothers, like Quiet Gal I can't help it that she's not taking her vitamins! And she doesn't want to go to the roof to see the lovely view of the town! Women NO way... you are confusing me with my younger sister. I am not the pregnant teenager.. I am the OLDER sister and I'll make you a deal.. How about this: I will go up on the roof with you.. if you will go out to the rock quarry with ME. ha.. You go first.
-
But I've had the time to write WELL then.. hop to it, Mister!! When is the next list coming out (ha.. I am DYING to see how my KBD movie rates this time. (Hey.. maybe if I am lucky, I'll come in somewhere at least in the TEENS this time.) That's because she's a chip off the ol' block Ha.. don't I know it. Sadly the "attitude" is really showing up lately too, with the arrival of 5th grade.. alas. Let's just say.. we've had to have more than a few "heart to heart chats" lately. ha. (oh me.. I can HARDLY wait for the TEEN years.. so very not) I'm not that crazy about the sour and tart candies I do love the sour stuff.. but I sometimes go back and forth. Every so often I like my fave chocolates too.. but lately I have really been hooked on those Sweet Tarts.. (and I have the sore tongue to prove it! ha) I don't even put kraut on a hot dog. I only eat it with pork and mashed potatoes OH for pizza sake.. ha. We have got to get you out of your comfort zone one of these days. Try it on a Brat sometime.. its better than SAWDUST!! I know some people like Reubens and Rachels I don't like Reubens (because I don't like the corned beef) But my mom loves them. The QT likes them too. (And what in the wide wide world of sports is a RACHEL??) Sinister" is a really good word for A Kiss Before Dying . The film starts off as a teen drama but it quickly turns. I was actually wondering what the heck you had me watching, at the outset Ha.. I wasn't exactly sure myself, when it first got started. But then it just started to really get dark. I don't know for sure WHAT I expected when I started watching, but I am w/ you.. (Spoiler alert) Seeing him push her off that roof.. (and yes.. w/ a baby in her belly).. not to mention how SWEET he just got finished being to her.. oh my golly. She never saw it coming. Sinister indeed. And yes.. the tennis player.. that one really was shocking too.. so methodical.. and then he just slipped away. OH me. (MAJOR spoiler) But to be honest, I found the ending pretty much a surprise too.. I figured he end up going over the edge.. but I thought it would be during the fight.. or maybe one of the men in the car would shoot him or something.. Did NOT expect that truck, though. (but I LIKED it) ha.
-
I know! I've been very shiftless, of late Well.. (she said sheepishly) ha.. who am I to point fingers REALLY.. ha. I have been so far behind on conversations over the last several months, I will never be able to catch up. I have been on here more in the last few days than I probably have been all summer. Too many irons in the fire, lately, alas. (silly me) So I guess I won't give you TOO much grief.. this time. But they are good for you and the baby! I want people to contact you about that one Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha... not. (And ps: If there WERE any babies for people to contact me about.. ha.. it better be CNN contacting me.. because I would have to be on the NEWS if that happened. It would be a major medical miracle for SURE. ha. I am afraid I had to be a one kidling Mama. (but hey.. with a kidling like my kidling.. one is PLENTY) So you can just take your old vitamins your own self. HA. (But now.. see.. if you had told me they were SweetTarts instead of vitamins.. well.. I MIGHT have fallen for it. I can't believe anyone can eat straight sauerkraut! I couldn't do that. The thought alone makes me sick I can only eat it with pork and mashed potatoes I am with you.. just "straight" Kraut might not be too much fun (especially gulped down in giant chunks like that.. ha) I like it w/ Bratwurst. (served with Mac and Cheese) Mmm!! But now I remember my mom used to make a Kraut Salad when I was a kid.. it was served cold and had a sort of "sweet and sour" thing going on.. that was pretty good, actually.. OH wait.. Look who I am talking too. ha. Mr. Stick in the Mud. YOU wouldn't know Sauer Kraut Salad from.. Vitamins. Ha. It wasn't bad. I was actually shocked by two of the moments in A Kiss Before Dying . The film really tricks you with the tone at the start. I was not prepared for that It is a lot more "sinister" story than it looks. He really was a piece of work.. and the way he just plotted and schemed.. even when his plans failed.. he was right there with a back up plan too. And it did have some "surprise" moments.. at least in terms of the tone, as you say. I really thought it was a lot of fun. (in a crazed maniacal stalker killer sort of way) ha. I think it may be my most fave Wagner role ever. (though really.. about the only other thing I can ever say I really liked him in was Hart to Hart.. ha.. not quite the same) Anyway.. I am glad it wasn't a wash out for you. PS.. I am editing my post because I meant to ask.. I think I can guess, but what were the two moments that shocked you most?? "Don't worry Frank... I know that a rock quarry may SEEM like a weird choice, for me to host your Birthday party.. but I am SURE the delivery truck with your Sauer Kraut and Sawdust BIRTHDAY cake will be here ANY minute." Meanwhile.. sit back and enjoy the highlights from your recent victory at last summer's KRAUT Eating Competition.. gee.. you look terrific in those White Tights and that red cape! HAPPY Birthday, Grey Dude!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so HAPPY for you that your paragraph nightmare is at an end Ha.. yes.. even if such a small and insignificant nightmare, in the great scheme of things (But good gravy, you'd never have known it, by the way I whined and cried about it) Still, it is good to be back to normal (ha.. or at least as "close" to normal as possible.. for me, that is) I had a few days of nail biting, wondering if you would actually like it after Frank and I praised it to the skies. Who knew I had such a "thing" for black humor?? ha. I guess I do like some stories like that.. I think for that type of movie to work for me though.. at least some of the characters have to be "like-able" people.. or at least "fun". This one had a nice combination of both. (mixed in with Alec G's "creepy" factor. ha.) What I like best is the way they start out so evil, but she turns them into little boys who need a scolding....she treats them that way and then they actually become that way...shuffling their feet, staring down at the ground like they got caught hiding the chalk. It's too funny She made them "toe" the line for sure.. ha. (at least when they were around HER, anyway) And the tea party has become my absolute favorite scene, with the one woman who won't go back into the room...just keeps chattering away... she cracks me up so much It was hilarious.. they were trapped like rats.. held hostage by a bunch of old grannies. Too funny.
