Woo hoo, Mr. Grey.. Pardon me for butting in here.. ha.. but I just wanna say YOU are a movie watching machine lately. yee haw! (you keep this up and you will put me to shame for SURE)

But don't worry, I won't butt in further and try to guess how you rated your "most recents" ha ... that is a good job for Jackie and Miss G. Because even though I am curious..
A) I am LOUSY at pegging you.
You already know.. or can guess that I have only seen a handful of the films you listed.And. C) you probably just don't GIVE a flying fig what I think, anyway HA. (oh, I will choose C!!)

But still, I will be interested to see how you rated the ones I know of.. and curious to hear more about the ones I don't.
And PS: I THINK you would like COHTR... but OH of course I am most curious to see HOW you have rated my beloved Blood Alley. OH the suspense... OH the intrigue. ha.. I honestly have NO idea what you will say about it. I can see how you MIGHT say you loved it.. and then again.. I can see you saying "meh" too.. (because did I mention how LOUSY I am at pegging you?? ha) But you at least HAVE to tell me that you liked "Baby"... she IS the PERFECT woman, after all)

Howdy Miss G...
particularly enjoy la Dietrich in this
She was very entertaing in this one.. so full of herself, ha. And yet even when she is being just SO bad.. ha.. she is so good! And boy, wasn't she stunning??? Hibi has it right... she looked so much younger than her age.. ha. (if ONLY I could say the same.. alas.. ha)
But I also thought Jane was truly lovely in this one too. (that "garden party" dress she wore near the end of the film.. with the big hat..beautiful!)
And PS.. I loved Alistair Sim in this.. I missed the very beginning of the movie so I missed any opening credits too, and it took me a minute to remember who he was (I knew his face, but could not place him.. duh) and then all of a sudden I yelled out "EBENEZER!" ha. (he is my most favorite Scrooge)

Helllooooooo Miss G!!!
I just wanted to post a little note here about how much I enjoyed watching STAGE FRIGHT tonight. I had never seen this one before (in truth, I don't even think I'd ever heard of it before) And while I can't say it was "the best Hitchcock movie EVER" I really enjoyed it. (Oh that Marlene.. she is so good at being bad, ha)
But really.. I just loved Jane Wyman... I have only seen her in a handful of roles that really stand out for me (my most fave for her has to be in Johnny Belinda) but I have to say I liked her a lot in this film tonight too. She really was fun to watch.. trying to juggle and stay one step ahead of everyone (and keeping up w/ all her different "persona's"
mini-spoiler alert:
Oh.. and my most favorite part is PURE Hitchcock greatness.. I LOVE the way he filmed the part where she is helping the man she THINKS is innocent hide down in the basement.. and then she finds out that he is NOT... I love how it is dark and creepy down there.. and the only real light is used to keep the focus on their eyes.. back and forth, back and forth.. as they talk. And then it switches to their hands.. and he is about to grab hold of her.. and she (gasp) reaches out and takes HOLD of his hands (in a gentle, caring way) OH my golly... I will stop there to keep my mini spoiler from turning into a major one..ha. But that was a really fine moment in the story for me.
Anyway.. it may not be a "list topper" for most folks, but I just thought this film was a lot of fun, and a nice little "mini-thriller" with just enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. I am glad to have caught it tonight. Thanks for letting me have a moment to "blab" a bit. :-)

Please weigh in on that. You too Bronxie. Or Miss G., Rohanaka...anyone. You know, our usual suspects. C'mon, don't leave me hangin'. I'll weigh in after you
Oh good gravy... hmm... I am on the spot.. ha. But I will try...
What is your favorite word?
Mama (at least for the last 8 1/2 years anyway)

What is your least favorite word?
Unforgivable (few things in life EVER are.. but our pride is usually behind most of them)
What is your favorite sound?
Babies (or small children) laughing
What is your least favorite sound?
my alarm clock
What profession would you have liked to pursue?
teaching
What is your least favorite profession?
Fast Food, perhaps. It's honest work.. but oh, me. I just don't think I have it in me to work that hard.
Who is your favorite actor? (Pick one)
Too easy.. ha. John Wayne
Who is your favorite actress? (Pick one
Another easy one.. Maureen O'Hara
What is your favorite film? (Don't be lazy...pick one)
The Quiet Man (Oh gee... ha.. I am NOTHING if not predictable.. ha.) Though I must confess it is not the BEST movie I have ever seen... now THAT would be a MUCH harder question to answer, wouldn't it???) ;-)
When you arrive at the Pearly Gates or whatever spiritual afterlife you believe in, what would you want Him/Her/The Supreme Being of Your Choice, to say to you?
Borrowing from the scriptures, I will say that I would most like to hear, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant" (though I know in truth, it would be an absolute and complete gift to me, if ever I were to hear it)

As you wish
Next to Columbo (a role I think he must have been BORN for, ha) that Grandpa was my favorite character for him, I think.

And ps.. why stop at ONE giant bar.. when you can have TWO?? ha..
Two giant bars of some lovely Belgian milk chocolate.. all for you little darlin'. (Enjoy.. kiddo.. it is only CYBER calories.. very figure friendly.) :-)

Now send me a bag tropical lifesavers!
Bossy, bossy... good golly. Never let it be said that I came between the Mad Hat and his candy fix.. ha...

Hershy's Special Dark, I'll take it
Oh goodie.. I'll trade you all my Hershey's Dark minis (that come in the variety bag) for all your Hershey's Milk Chocolate. ha. The only dark choc. I like is Jr. Mints, Mounds and those "Ghiradelli Raspberry square" thingies I mentioned earlier... other than that.. it is MILK chocolate all the way. ha.
-
Ha.. they look like red chocolate chips.. taste like cherry. PACKED with sugar I am sure. Not sure what else you can use them for (probably cherry chip cookies.. ha.) I have only ever used them for Cherry Mash. (my aunt is the one who got me started making it homemade.. about 20 yrs or so ago.. when SHE stopped making them and bringing them at Christmas.. ha. I had to take over the family tradition.. sigh. It was a hard job.. but SOMEBODY had to do it!!

what is cherry mash candy
It is pretty popular here in the KC area.. midwest in general, maybe. It is like cherry fudge.. wrapped in chocolate nut fudge.. VERY rich and super sweet. (If I buy it store bought.. it takes FOREVER for me to eat a whole one... usually about four sittings.. ha. A few bites go a long way)
And no offense to the Chase Candy people.. but I do prefer homemade. To me it is just a better treat because I am not that big on the whole chopped nut thing.. and the store candy is loaded w/ chopped nuts. Also... I really like the texture that you get w/ the chocolate fudge part of the homemade recipe. It is not as dry as the storebought...just a little creamier texture, maybe.
But hey.. the storebought is NOTHING to sneeze at... ha. It is VERY delish. Just be prepared for a "sweet tooth" overload no matter which way you try it. ha.
And PS: you can get the homemade recipe off a bag of cherry chips, (at least around here anyway) It does have marshmallows in the recipe.. but they melt and become a part of the cherry fudge, so it is not "marshmallowy" at all.

OH my golly.. finally a list I can REALLY get behind, ha. (I am such a lousy list maker.. but candy.. well.. THAT would be a specialty, ha)
Let's see... it REALLY depends on the mood I am in, (and PS: I leave off the nuts from just about ANYTHING except Snickers)
Hmmmm... let's see... Candy Bars:
These pretty much are all interchangeable as favorites because I could just about as easily prefer one over the other at any given time of day.. I go in "seasons" sometimes. ha
1) Hershey's Chocolate Bar (I know.. boring... but none the less, tried and true)
2)3 Musketeers (NOT any "special" kind.. the plain original if you please)
3) Reeces Peanut Butter Cups (plain, not crunchy)
4) Mounds (because sometimes you feel like a nut.. and sometimes you are one, ha)
5)Milky Way (I once went an entire year where I had to have ONE Milky Way mini a day.. or else. ha)
6) Snickers
SOUR Candy (yee haw.. this would be the kidling's most fave category.. and I must confess, I tend to prefer sour over chocolate the older I get.... (NO comments from the Grey Gallery over the implications of THAT, if you please) And again.. the order of these is entirely interchangable depending on my mood, ha...
1) Icebreakers Sours Raspberry or Strawberry (I can't remember which) Lemonade.
2)Lemonhead and FRIENDS (Jackie.. has Alice tried these?? They are the kidlings and my fave as they have lemon AND a bunch of other assorted sour flavors)
3)Lifesavers Sour Gummy's (especially the Wildberry flavors)
4)Cherry Sours (OH my golly.. talk about tried and true)
"Other" candy: (also in not TOO specific order, depending on my mood)
1) Ghiradelli Squares Dark Chocolate Raspberry (that is my CURRENT "hankering" ha. .. I have some in my fridge, even as we speak) :-)
2)Junior Mints
3)Homemade Chocolate Covered Marshmallows (easy to make.. WAY fun to eat)
4) Homemade Cherry Mash Bars (I prefer my own to storebought because that way I control how much "nut" is in the chocolate.. I use crunchy peanut butter instead of smooth.. and leave off putting in the chopped nuts that way)
5)Jolly Ranchers hard candy (LOVE grape and cherry the best)
Oh brother.. I need to stop.. I am thinking it is time to go get a Ghiradelli Rasperry thingie now. (Did I mention that was my lastest "hankering" ?? ha...)
PS Grey Guy.. your list was missing ONE item I thought SURE would be there...

a terrible sore throat and fever and various things for about a week
Oh NO. That's not good. DO take good care and get well soon. (lots of hot tea and honey.. warm soup, etc.)
In the meantime..
Seeing that picture makes me want to get "Blood Alley" so I don't get in trouble. (I've seen it but I was young then.)
Ha.. well no worries there. I only save the worst of my "Peacemaking" (for the "younger" Greyer folks... who just hem and haw around.)

Maybe by the time you are feeling better you can watch and chime in too.. (and maybe by then the GREY dude will too.. ha.. oh no.. I hope you feel better sooner than THAT!)

Take care, sir.

may watch that next. Or I may not!
Well.. guess I better go stock up on more rope... since you seem DETERMINED to do things the hard way.
In the meantime.. here... let me just give you ONE more gentle encouragement to enjoy Blood Alley NEXT....

I've been poisoned
Not yet... that is not on the "schedule of torture" for another few weeks or so.. ha. (you didn't know we had a "schedule" did you???)

I've since watched The Sea Chase.
And the verdict on that one is_______________.
I have only just recently even HEARD about TSC What did you think?. I don't know if I should be interested in it or not.. but the "bits" of it I have found on youtube look interesting.
In the meantime.. get to crackin' on Blood Alley, buster. I am interested in your thoughts on it. It is not your "typical" Duke role. Not sure where you are going to come down on it all together (I am not nearly so good at pegging your opinions on some movies as Miss G) but I think you will at least like it SOMEwhat.
Now.. to go order a few more ropes.. just in case I need to boost my inventory....

I've been hoping the Clark Gable box set would go on sale
Well.. I DO understand that.. ha. (you do remember you are talking to the queen of "thrifty" ha.. (sounds ever so much better than.. "tightwad" ha.)
But OH me.. excuses, excuses. ha (But I don't blame you.. ha.. I think Miss G has you pegged though. I don't expect rave reviews overall on this one from you)
Behind your back and into mine!
Not SO, my DEAR friend. ha. Only the hat pin is for a "rear flank" sort of maneuver.. ha. The scissors are always used for the frontal assault, don't you know. Right upside the noggin' just like Vance used to do.. ha.

I can watcb Blood Alley. That's one that I do have
WHAT?? I thought you had seen that one. Oh GOOD golly.. It has been such a long time since I blabbed.. I mean "Rambled" on that one, I plum forgot you were still MIA on it. Good gravy.. I must be slipping in my old age!! Ha. (A Peacemaker's work is never done) sigh...
By ALL means.. you should watch that one. (BABY is waiting for you!!) Hop to it, Mister!! Don't MAKE me break open the freezer for a ROPE!!)

Red is for danger, no? At least where MrGrey is concerned!
Ha... well.. to be honest... sad but true.. .USUALLY red is for.. me.. embarrassing myself over SOME dumb thing I have said lately.. ha.
But don't tell that GREY dude. Let's tell him RED is for how mad I get when he is so wrong headed all the time (you know.. so he can worry over it a while. HA Oh yeah.. like he is shaking in his boots, over that one, I am so sure!!) Ha.

-
Ok.... ha. obviously I am TOO dense to figure out how to use the color buttons.. ha. (and now I am missing half of what I wanted to say.. ha. OH me.. I am a mess) What I was TRYING to say little darlin' is... The blue is lovely.. but if we are talking favorites, mine is RED.. and PS.. I bet you are spot on w/ your prediction on a certain GREY person w/ regard to San Francisco. He is an "easy" guess when it comes to SOME stuff.. ha. And I think you have him pegged.
And PS: when it comes to posting... after my latest disaster w/ the new message board "goodies" I will take my technophobic self TOTALLY out of the "color" scheme and stick w/ black and white.. ha. STILL reliable after all these years!!!!!!!

a strange little western
Fred.. "strange" is a good word to describe this movie for sure. And you are right about how this film does not match the caliber of the other stories by the same author. And what is sad is, I think it COULD have. But the dialogue went back and forth from sophisticated and interesting.. to just plain doofy. And there was a lot of back story missing from so many of the characters (that a lot of stuff did not make sense) Truthfully, Preston's character stole the show and got all the great lines. He was the only one that was REALLY interesting to me.. the other characters were pretty flat and one dimensional. (though I did like Wills character too, for the most part)
young John Drew Barrymore
OH, the poor kid. ha. He was one of the most "one dimensional" characters of all. But I sort of felt sorry for him because he spent the first half of the story just getting sent out to unhitch the horses everytime the older brother wanted to have a "grown up" conversation w/ out the kid brother listening in. ha.. I kept expecting him to say something like, "Aw gee.. again. I NEVER get to hear the GOOD stuff" ha. And then when he DID get in on the action, it only served to teach him one of those lessons that had to be learned the hard way. Poor kid, indeed! :-)

PS. Oh yeah. I love San Francisco. Especially ****. mmm-mmm
Jackie.. Miss G... What do you think??? Should we skip over the formalities and just "triple DOG dare" him to watch it?????????????

(Nah... He'd likely just call it a "musical" and who knows WHAT he'd say about that ending.... blah blah blah...) ha.

Sorry Grey Dude.. I am being mean, I know. You do know we love you, don't you?????????????????? (said w/ a hat pin and large pair of scissors behind my back) HA!

-
Ha, Jackie... he was PERFECT for that role.. I have to admit.. even when he was being his "bawdiest" and slitheriest".. but I kept waiting for him to bust out with a hearty "We got trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with P and that stands for POOL!" ha.
-
OH, and I forgot to mention... Jack ELAM is in it too. (in a very un-Elam sort of role.. and yet... he was entirely himself. ha)
Here is the youtube link.. it is a pretty easy watch (coming in just under an hour and a half..but the picture and sound quality are sort of rough. Watch it sometime when you CLEARLY have nothing better to watch.. ha. Because, again... I can't say it was all that GREAT of a story..but it does have it's moments.
-
I KNOW!! ha. I bet you were thinkin'... "Oh that Ro.. ha. she's totally off her rocker.. again!" ha.
And RE: Robert Preston... He was quite the "black hat" in this one too.. kinda mean (sometimes) almost "slippery and slithery"(even a bit "bawdy" at times too). He was not a very nice guy most of the time... and yet.. there was something NOT entirely UN-likeable about him either. (UGH, I hate it when that happens)

*I love SLING BLADE!*
Do you know that I have only seen that movie ONCE (way back YEARS ago when it was first released on video) and to this day the QT and I STILL go around talking about wanting "mustard" for our biscuits... AND.. if I see him w/ the lawn mower.. ha.. I will sometimes ask.. (just to be doofy) "What are you going to do with that lawn mower blade?" ha. And then I answer for myself (in my best "Carl" voice) "Do you aim to kill me with it??" HA.
And then at that point, the QT will usually bust out laughing and ask me for some mustard for his biscuits all over again.. ha. What can I say.. we are easily entertained.. ha.
