  1. Ah HAH!!!! I think I HAVE seen it then.. but again.. .it was a VERY long time ago... maybe when you were still in grade school.. ha. (oh gee.. that WAS long time ago.. ha) That is all I can remember from this movie... *(possible spoiler)* an Octopus.. and John Wayne croaks.. but I don't remember why or how... other than that he drowns... (does the Octopus win??? I truly need to see the movie again now for sure.) I can't remember That is because you are getting OLD!!! (and soon to be even OLDER!!!!) PS: How many layers of DUST did you have to blow off of the DVD cover just to get to watch WOTRW anyway???? Mr. "I Have Way TOO Many Unwatched Movies To Count Just Sitting There Rotting on the Shelf" guy. PS: did I mention BLOOD ALLEY is going to be on later this week???? :p Edited by: rohanaka on Aug 23, 2010 12:07 AM OH and "PS".. one more time. Tell me what made THIS Duke so much more a favorite for you?? Inquiring minds wanna know!! :-) Edited by: rohanaka on Aug 23, 2010 12:21 AM
  2. It's now my second favorite Wayne character, behind "Doniphon." I thought it was terrific Dadgum.. did I mention color me GREEN??? ha. I wil make a point of seeking this one out sometime.. As I have been sitting here thinking... I MAY have seen WOTRW a LONG LONG LONG (long) time ago... But still I have such a lack of memory for it that I would LOVE to catch it again... (is there an OCTOPUS in it????) oh gee.. green is such a rotten color for me.. bleh.
  3. I'm sending some help for you, on that mountaintop, Ro. Sometimes you meet the loveliest people there TOO sweet.. thank you Ms Favell!! They make a LOVELY couple.. Hope they can stop in for tea sometime while I am in between naps!! :-) Oh.. and Re: Ramses... I love that whole "to mingle with your own" line.. that is one of the best bits in that whole movie. ha. And wowsa... LOVELY Ava pics, youngun. :-) PS: Miss Maven.... Give Ro 'one boy...one special boy...one boy to cling to...forever and ever.' Someone like ohhhhhhhh saaaaaaay, Olivier in "Wuthering Heights." Brooding, sullen, heartbroken. He'll be on the rebound which might make for some interesting...conversation, for Rohanaka up there on those cold, wintry, mountaintops. Heathcliff?????? Nah... I'd likely bop him upside the head with a big rock.. ha. Oh me... Bah... I LOVE that story but I have YET to figure out why because I HATE his character.. and Kathy too.. OH me... what a couple of self absorbed JERKS!!! (Sorry ladies.. ha. Don't all of you throw something at me at once.. yikes... Oh brother.. what kind of romance story fan AM I anyway??????????????????????????????? I need to turn in my membership card or SOMETHING!! ha.) But back to your orginal comment Miss Maven.. ha... I already HAVE that "one boy.. one special boy" (Remember the other day when I said my heart belongs to the QT??) And he is the ANTI-Heathcliff.. there is not a selfish or self-absorbed bone in that man's body.. so pretty much.. only every NOW AND THEN do I ever want to bop him upside the head or anything.. ha. (Golly how DOES that man put up w/ me???????) PS: Mr. Grey.. Lassie Quit.. mind your manners, you scalawag... you are disturbing the peaceful beauty of my mountain top... ha. OH where oh where has that Butterscotch gotten to?? We need her long gloves to come and strangle you.. (PS: Was that Wake of the Red Witch??? Oh golly.. color me.. GREEN with envy... I still would like to see that one.. but HEY... did I mention BLOOD ALLEY is going to be on in a few days?????????????? Whoopeeeeee!!!!) Edited by: rohanaka on Aug 22, 2010 11:20 PM
  4. Looks like I need to check that one out! Maybe there is still some Liz hope for me, after all! OH brother.. WHY am I not suprised to hear you say THAT!!! (ha) PS: Yes.. Miss Maven.. I have my LONG flannel on up here... I LIKE the cooler temps.. but I still gotta stay warm when the cold winds blow.. ha. And gee.. Miss Goddess... It's a LOVELY view.. but I am going to sleep for a few weeks before I enjoy it TOO much.. ha. If you need to find me.. my mountain will be the one with the snoring sounds echoing down from on high.. ha.
  5. There's always one rotten one in the bunch And then there were two... and now there are THREE... (though I guess technically I am not in the same category as The Grey Guy and Ollie.. as I am not a guy.. but I still can say for certain Ms Taylor has never been too high on my list) Oh good gravy.. I can't believe I am coming down on the Grey side of things... ugh.. will I ever live down the shame??????????? ha. OH, what IS the world coming to????????????????? I mean, I can TAKE being lonely all by myself on my mountaintop of dissent (a la Me and my beloved RIP, ha) but now I have to share the mountain with the guy who thinks Dix (from In a Lonely Place) and Harry (from Night in the City) were ROLE models.. OH and who hates McLintock and Donvan's Reef, but thinks POP Secret.. I mean TOP Secret is the greatest comedy EVER!!! Oh.. I can't even think of it.... HOW will I ever live this down?? At least Ollie is on the mountain too. ha. Now I don't feel SO bad. And Movieman.. you are half on half off the mountain. ha. But I will take all the GOOD company I can get! ha. RE: Ms Taylor... I just have never been much of a Liz person.. I really have tried too.. but she just has never really held much interest for me. Except I think I did like her more as a child star or perhaps a very young adult, I think. But even then.. I could really just take her or leave her (I do like Jane Eyre.. and FOTB and Lassie.. OH and I can JUST stand her in COAHTR... but it is more her characters in all these films than it is her as an actress that I like. Truthfully.. I meant what I said about only JUST tolerating her in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, ha... she just spent way too much time running around in her slip and I kept thinking.. for crying out loud.. finish getting dressed and THEN yell at Paul Newman some more.. ugh. But THAT is likely a strictly female opinion.. ha. Oh brother... now Ollie and the Movieman will likely go sit next to the GREY Dude... and leave me here by myself afterall, ha. Oh.. I feel so all alone... (But hey.. Maybe I can just take a nap while I am by myself up here on the mountain.. ha. I could use a bit of peace and quiet for a change, ha)
  6. I'll have you know, I awoke to Mrs. Miniver, in the middle of the night HA!! That is the only reason I caught it this time as well. Honestly.. I fell asleep EARLY on the couch last night and woke up just as MM was starting.. so I was glad if I could only catch ONE it was my favorite) So what the heck does that mean? Oh gee. Now I am getting worried.. ha. But who KNOWS what goes on in that Grey/Gray mind of yours???????? Next thing you will be telling me that you LOVE McLintock and Donovan's Reef.. ha. But oh wait.. I think I am safe.. ha.. Ok.. so you woke up when the movie was on. .. but did you WATCH Mrs. Miniver. (and love it more with every viewing???) ha. At least THAT much I can still hold onto and not be TOO scared that we are starting to think alike.. ha. :p PS: Nightmare Et tu? Mr. Movieman???????? for shame!!
  7. Summer Under The Silent Stars A Collection Of Portraiture In Early Film Posters Oh me oh my, Mr. "In Hollywood"... I have been so busy lately I have not had time to look in this thread pretty much all month.. and when I DID finally get the chance.. oh me.. I am just blown away.. What a breathtaking and gorgeous collection you have going on here, sir. They are all so terrific.. I have NO way to pick any favorites.. But some that stand out for me as I was scrolling along are: The Pinch Hitter... the one with little Jackie Coogan.. Spirit of Romance... Debtor to the Law (oh me.. if I HAD to pick a fave.. maybe that one) and the Mack Sennett one near the beginning as well... but truthfully.. they are all just so amazing.. I have never even heard of (let alone seen) most of the films on the list you have going so far... but wow... they sure are first rate posters. I imagine it was a LOT of hard work putting this all together. Thanks so much for the fun viewing.
  8. HIYA Little Miss Butterscotchie!!!!!! Did you catch Greer in Mrs. Miniver last night???? Golly I just love that film more and more with every viewing!!! Ooops.. my mistake... why would I be I talking about my fave Greer film here?? I must have clicked on the wrong.. No wait.. this is the right thread..
  9. > {quote:title=MissGoddess wrote:}{quote} > And yes, "Baby" would be perfect for Grimes. Tailor made, you might > say. HA!!!! :p
  10. I've got BLOOD ALLEY marked for a reminder, too, so between all of us you and the Duke should make your rendezvous....Baby HIya Miss G, Jackie, and Mr Movieman!!!!!! Woo Hoo, and thanks to all three of you for signing up for extra work keeping me on task to remember Blood Alley! Now I can cancel that appointment I made to get a reminder tatooed on my forehead!! ha. (yes.. I am that desperate! ha. Did I mention how HAPPY I am to get the chance to see it again??? ha.) Ok.. so it would only have been one of those "kiddie" wash off tatoos.. I may be desperate.. but I am not crazy.. well not TOTALLY crazy... yet.) HA! PS: Miss G... I was just thinking about "Baby" ha.. She would be the perfect girlfriend for a certain GREY person.. ha. Oh.. that was mean... sorry Grey Dude. (But she would be a good choice for you because she would be the ONE woman on the planet who would never be able to slap, kick, or hang you unless YOU told her to do it, HA) PS: Miss Maven... glad to hear you are gonna give Blood Alley a try. I can't say it is the BEST film for Duke OR Ms Bacall.. but it is entertaining. (drama, suspense, a little humor.. and a bit of romance all thrown in for good measure) I just really enjoy it. Hope you do too. Is there anyone else who makes your heart go pitter pat?? OH.. you know me.. ha. I may have a few "school girl" crushes now and then.. but my heart belongs to the QT!!!!
  11. Sorry to interupt all the "flutter/non-flutter" chats.... but I am just so doggon HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I wanted to put in a PLEA to my beloved, faithful, and devoted secretarial staff.. Miss G.. Jackie... Mr. Movieman... PLEASE take note and help me remember!!!!! BLOOD ALLEY is showing two (count 'em TWO) times in the next month.... Aug 25th and Sept 18th... If it would not be too much trouble.. can you please pull out all the stops and send me multiple reminders.... pm me... email me.. whatever!!! ha. I have waited EVER so long for this movie to show again... It has been YEARS (maybe ten or more) since I last saw this movie.. and I would L-O-V-E love to get it on tape this time around. I promise to pay you all double.. no TRIPLE the usual fee for reminding me.. (gee.. I better get to googling my candy supplies early!! ha) Thanks ever so much my dear secretary staff... You folks are tops!!! (And PS... thanks to the TCM programmer gurus... I am sure my whining had little to do w/ your decision to aire this film.. but I am still glad for your choice whatever the reason!) Ok.. now back to our regularly scheudled chat on fluttering already in progress.. (I am still making my way through all the posts, but.... PS: Miss Maven.. what.. NO flutters from Robert Donat??? What about Knight Without Armor??? Flutter-flutter... FLUTTER!!) Edited by: rohanaka on Aug 19, 2010 4:34 AM
  12. HI Miss Applegate... I THINK I saw you on TCM the other night.. At least I THINK it was you.. ha. It was late.. and I had fallen asleep on the couch.. but then woke up just before your spot aired... (were you the one talking about Ginger... and also Miss Lillian in Night of the Hunter too I think?) You looked "mah-velous"!! Great fan perspective, ma'am.
  13. CONGRATS on 5000, Mr. Movieman!!!! This calls for a celebration!!! M&M cookies for everybody!!!
  14. This is for rohanaka HAAAA!!!!!!!! Love that Hoss!!!! THANK you so much, Miss G!!!!!!!!! I love that episode!!!! It is one of my all time faves for that show for sure!! Thanks for thinking of me, little darlin! I can't hardly wait... I was not able to watch the whole thing yet.. but hope to get to see it in the next few days!! I really need a smile right about now... thanks again!!!
  15. I found Spring Byington's subversive housekeeper scarier than Vincent Price! I never understood her unprovoked malice toward Gene, and she couched it in that sugary sweet demeanor. Yikes, indeed!! Ha.. she was less than "Spring-like" wasn't she??? Oh me... way creepy. (PS: did I miss something?? WHAT happened to the daughter??? After the mom died... and Gene comes back to live there as the new wife??? I don't recall them saying they shipped the kid off anywhere (like to finishing school or something?) But gee... I never heard anything more about her again after that. (maybe I was too groggy from sleep deprivation and missed it, ha) PS: Ollie.. thanks for the confirmation about Danny's presidency.. I wasn't sure WHAT that was all about ha. I have made an effort to avoid that 2012 thing so far (I remember rolling my eyes at it when it came out last year) But who knows... I might give it a try sometime just to see all the cool mayhem and destruction movie magic stuff... (But gee... I am still trying to shake that whole Danny as president thing.. ha.) need to think about voice-characters of classic films vs voice-characters of contemporary times. Ronald Colman, Cary Grant, Vincent Price, Jimmy Stewart, Cagney, Edward G, Bogart, Laughton. Peter Lorre. Durante, certainly. Some incredibly distinctive voices What.. no James Mason??????????????? 16. Pardon the interruption .. Just wanted to jump in and say I am so happy.. woo hoo!! I FINALLY got to see Dragonwyck... (I have missed it the last couple of times it was on. And can't say it is the BEST movie I ever watched but I DID enjoy it a lot.. and wowsa... was the lovely Gene just so terribly lovely!! And OH me oh MY... that Vincent Price.. what a LOONEY!!!!. (I think this is now one of my more favorite roles for him.. not all "horror-ific" and yet still just downright scary by the end of it all.. or creepy at the very least for sure!!) YIKES! Ok... thanks for letting me get that in here.... Now back to the submarine races.... (or... is it Danny Glover's presidential race (???) ... what is that all about??? I must have been asleep when that was announced!!) yikes!!! Ha.. look at me... two uses of the word "yikes" in a single post.. gee... that must be a record for me!! ha. (yikes some more!!)
  17. She was regal by nature and had an imperious voice, yet she reveled in complex, even sordid situations. She was deft at maintaining control and emotional distance and when she did break the pathos could be all the more overwhelming. She simmered in soft fires. I'll miss her. I must confess that I have never found myself to be a big fan of Miss Neal. (or at least of the films I have seen her in) But I was very sorry to hear of her passing. I know she did have many fans (and I am sure that any issues I might have had were more MY problem than hers) (And with that in mind, I have to comment on what a lovely remembrance you have posted of her here, Mr Molo. Well wriiten, sir) Edited by: rohanaka on Aug 11, 2010 12:28 AM
  18. I think you need to fire this secretary No way little missy... I could NEVER fire YOU. You have kept me on my toes way too much w/ so many other movies. Without you and my other faithful secretaries I would NEVER get to see any of the good stuff. So we won't hold this one against your permanent employee record, ha. And PS: I likely would have had to sleep through it anyway. (I am so mixed up on my schedules lately.. all I ever seem to do is sleep when I am supposed to be awake... and work when I should be sleeping... ugh) So ANYWAY... I am going to try and check out their schedule for the next several Saturdays... It is DUKE Saturday every weekend this month (yippee) so maybe it will be repeated again in the next few weeks sometime. (now if only it could happen in one of my rare awake at home moments, ha) Now instead of firing you, here's a bonus check for all your extra effort keeping me on task in the past. I know I ordinarily pay you in chocolate? but is has been so hot and muggy here lately.. I am thinking a bit of fresh fruit might be a better treat. Enjoy!
  19. The West was not for sissies. Ha... welcome to the western side of town, little missie!! I am enjoying watching (ok reading) your new take on the old west. PS: due to circumstances beyond my control.. I missed the entire "Festival of All Things Woody Strode" yesterday... wish I could have caught at least a few of them.... dadgummit. Will hope to catch the one some of you folks mentioned in another thread (later this month) (Sundown.. I think it was called?) Edited by: rohanaka on Aug 6, 2010 11:56 AM
  20. I'm back home Woo hoo. Glad to hear it, young'un. The men of Innisfree bid you welcome home... Edited by: rohanaka on Aug 3, 2010 3:18 PM
  21. What's the score, Quiet Gal? OH I have no idea.. likely something like: Grey Dudes 20... old worn out black and white gals... ZIP! (The last couple of weeks have been so busy.. I am more or less done in.. ha) But don't get used to that score... SOMEDAY I hope to bounce back. Ha. Don't you think her attraction to Bart was that he topped her? This turned her on. Then he didn't take her ring. Nice guy? Confident? Hard to get? Oh he certainly had her interested at that point. (and I think she had him hooked as well) It was a flirtation that led to something more pretty quickly, I am sure. But don't we all approach love this way? Do we make any moves without an inkling of someone having feelings for us? Where it gets tricky is trying to guess how much they love us I agree some folks approach love this way.. but it is not a LASTING love. Nobody wants to get left emptyhanded by someone they WANT to love them.. so I am sure (at least starting out) most "romances" begin somewhat along those lines. But they do not STAY that way... or at least they shouldn't. (not if a person truly understands the deeper meanings behind what it means to love someone else more than you love yourself.) Annie never got there.. and I don't think she ever would. And was it love that triggered Annie? Or was it something more "animal," as ChiO wrote? No.. I likely did not express my thoughts on this clearly.. I don't think LOVE was what she had in her heart for him (at least in the beginning) but I do think eventually as much as she COULD understand love.. she eventually cared for him. But never in anyway more than she cared about hersefl. I know some "adults" who think self quite a bit within a loving relationship/marriage Well... as fun as it might be, ha, I won't go down that road with you because it would be a LONG a twisty one for sure (and did I mention I am an old worn out woman?) ha.. I will say however that I imagine there are a LOT of self-loving people who are in a marriage with someone else is far LESS self-loving. Because that is about the only way a situation like that (where someone loves themself more) could really work. If BOTH parties cared more about their own wishes and selfish desires than about the other person's... that is not the kind of marriage that tends to last too long. You and Jackie are right, Bart is very weak-willed. He's lonely which makes him vulnerable to any kind of spark. He goes from a real low to a serious high; rather manic. The swing is dangerous. He's also one who is into commitment. He won't abandon his love. He's going to cling to it. He wouldn't give the gun up and he's not going to give Annie up. His life revolves around them. Yes, that can be very dangerous. You have it exactly right. Hey! I think Movieman is a true gentleman. Again.. ha.. you have it EXACTLY right.. but we both know I was NOT talking about HIM, now was I??? ha. What's wrong with you?! Oh believe me.. you do not have enough hours in your day to hear the answer to that question...
  22. Hello there my DEAR Mr Grey! Am I under arrest... again? The better question is... SHOULD you be??? (and of course we all know the answer!) ha I've been known to do that. Ha.. well who am I to talk, really? I have been pretty hit and miss on my posting around her lately too.. so I guess I can let you off the hook JUST this once, ha. That's quite profound. I like it. Can you pull someone's trigger? Ha.. profound? Me? That would be a first for sure. ha. But to maybe get closer to the "definition" of her sort of love I was going for.. it was all very "fourth grade". ha. I guess I mean it reminded me of a little kid almost. (I will if you will, etc) She would likely not have taken ANY step toward loving anyone else unless she felt that person loved her first. And even if it was "love" she felt for him, her version of love was very much a form of self love too. She really only thought about what she wanted and clearly did NOT have his best interest at heart. (which is something that a person who felt real, adult, mature love would not do) and she did not have any desires for him that did not include meeting her own first. (so again.. she was very "self-centered" in her love for him.) I don't think gals like Annie are thinking happy home. They'll never be content. It's not just the money, it's the thrill. Oh yeah, I am totally with you on that. I do not think she'd have EVER been happy going that route as she was.. but if she'd had more moral fiber to her.. more character within her character so to speak.. they MIGHT have stood a chance. (because I really do think Bart would not have gone down the path he did except for HER influence on him.. and her influence only.) A gun can be controlled. A girl cannot Ha.. and that is how is SHOULD be. A girl is a PERSON after all and gun is not. ha. And yet isn't interesting that BART was able to be controlled simply by his desire for BOTH. (and that is why I say that his behavior was so much more frustrating to me than hers. She was who she was.. but at least she was able to be more or less figured out. (in some ways anyway) HE on the other hand did have a conscience that was active and working.. and really had no excuse except that he was as Jackie and I mentioned earlier.. just too weak willed to listen to it. (UGH, I hate it when that happens.) He would be slapped and kicked every two seconds! Some people NEED to be slapped and kicked at LEAST every two seconds. I bet you could never guess where I fall. For you.. I'd have to say... hmmm... every two seconds is a good start!! HA!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Wowsa Ms Favell.. those are some mighty fine Ben pics there.. mighty fine indeed. :-) I have not heard of that movie before. I will have to check it out. I love hanging out in this place.. I get to gab w/ good friends and find out about all sorts of movies that I love to watch or want to see... and learn about new ones too. (and then of course there are all the way cool pictures to look at too... (did I mention wowsa?)
  24. My golly... l have been so busy lately I TOTALLY missed all the new comments in here re: Annie and Bart. Glad to see you came back for a bit more to say, Mr. Grey.. I thought maybe you had ditched us. ha. I think she did love Bart... so long as he was doing what she wanted him to do. So, in essence, she was more in love with herself and her desires. She also seemed to cling to Bart when in fear, too. She was nothing but childish. I think you are pretty close on this.. she did love him. But it was all about HER for sure. She also needed him too. (at least after he finally gave in and joined her crime spree plans) I think if he had walked out that door (when she told him if he left to kiss her goodbye because she'd be gone later) it would have been IT between them and she'd have let him go... but once he stayed.. and they became partners in crime along with their marriage... she became as dependent on him as he did on her.. and not just to help w/ the shooting. I think she knew that even though he did not WANT to be her co-conspirator.. he DID love her and he was not ever going to be mean to her (the way others probably had been before) so she did value him... but it was a self-centered love sort of "she loved him because he loved her" kind of thing. On one hand a "strong" woman. On the other, a "weak" woman. Which is she? Both.. definitely. It just depended on what she needed to be strong about. In some ways she was tough as nails.. but in others.. she was VERYweak and even possibly co-dependent upon him. That is one thing that I think makes this all the more sad... Because this is the way good marriages can work too. (one person is strong where the other is weak... and vice versa.. the two people needing one another's strengths to comple each other and to compensate for their own weaknesses.) If they had not chosen a criminal path... and if they had a stronger foundation (in terms of personal character) they might have had a very happy life together. Which is deadlier? Ha... well.. that IS the question isn't it? ha. I guess it all depends on what you plan to do with EITHER item after you make the purchase. ha. (PS: nice catch on the contrasting store windows) Edited by: rohanaka on Jul 31, 2010 11:35 PM
