  1. I have nothing against Frank Sinatra. More than that, I think he was a great singer and a great actor. I've seen a photo of Yul and Frank together, and Yul was taller than Sinatra. And Deborah Kerr herself said that while she was filming "Marriage on the Rocks" with Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, she was much more taller than them who were, as she said, very short. She said about Yul that he wasn't particularly tall ( but he was taller than her). Deborah also said that Yul was the most talented man with whom she ever worked, and I am sure that's true, because Yul was a perfectionist and a man with many great talents.
  2. It's true that Yul was advised to be bold for "The King and I". Initially, he was quite reluctant, but then he realised that he looked even better, more sexy, more interesting without hair, so he remained that way. But, if you see photos of his Broadway production of "The King and I", he has hair, he isn't completely shaved. I heard that he was shaved, in fact, for "10 commandments", a film which he made before "The King and I"; although both of the films were released in 1956, they were made in 1955.
  3. Superb pictures, MissGoddess! I am so happy that this forum page devoted to Deborah Kerr enriches more and more with such nice things!
  4. Hello, MissGoddess! Did you manage to scan a few pictures made by Yul? What do you think about Yul's performance in "10 Commandments"? I think he was great, but Charlton Heston had the leading role. Yul looks splendid in these costumes. He was a very attractive man. And I want to tell you that I am very sure he was 5'10", because Deborah Kerr was 5'8". She was taller than it is said. On heels, she was almost as tall as Cary Grant, who was 6'1 1/2". And we have to think about the fact that Yul was bold, and if he had had hair, he would have looked taller. He was of medium height. He wasn't short like Sinatra, for example.
  5. I have recently coloured 2 photos of Deborah, from "Julius Caesar". She looked splendid, just like in "Quo Vadis?" The first one is a wallpaper
  6. Oh, splendid! Absolutely splendid photo! If you have some more wonderful photos of Deborah, post them on this forum page. Bravo!
  7. It's a very nice photo! I think it's a publicity portrait for the film "Dream Wife" (btw, it's a good film, in which she co-starred Cary Grant).
  8. Hi! No, unfortunately, I have it in the same version. But here is a poster that I like very much. As far as I know, all the images from the posters are originally photos, so, perhaps, Yul and Deborah posed this way. Quite interesting, isn't it? Have you seen "Dinner"? In the film, one of the actors has in his room a poster from "The Journey". It means that this film was very popular at its time. I love this publicity portrait. And this scene... What do you think about these photos? Are they publicity pictures, or are they taken from a deleted scene from the film-just like the one with them two, that I've posted on "The Journey" page? If you have some new photos from "The Journey", you could post them here. I would be interested to know if you have seen the kiss scene? I don't understand why Anatole Litvak prefered the 2 angles-the one showing Yul and separately Deborah. It was practically ruined such a great and very famous scene...I have a photo where Deborah and Yul are embracing and the angle is perfect-just like in GWTW. And it's from the kiss scene. You could see the picture on "The Journey" page. And, I don't know if the film was edited this way, but the kiss scene was shortened and I'll tell you why. If you have the film, you could observe that her hands' position differs at the angles' transition-there are at least 3-4 seconds missing from the scene. 9. I read somewhere that Gina didn't like him at all. She considered him a strange man, especially after she discovered that he had filmed her with a tiny camera, as she was wearing a sexy costume for the film. But maybe these are just gossips. Message was edited by: Monik
  10. Has any of you seen "Solomon and Sheba"? What do you think about the chemistry between Yul and Gina?
  11. If you find out something interesting, you will tell us too, won't you?
  12. Hey, that's great! Thank you.
  13. Vivien's mental illness was, indeed, a great problem for her. And maybe if she had been happier, she would have been still alive, just like Olivia de Havilland. I think that if she would have married Clark Gable or Robert Taylor, her life would have been different-in a good way.
  14. Is it possible for you to scan a few photos made by Yul and put them on this page?
  15. I am happy to see that Yul is still in your memories. Here are Yul and his dearest friend Deborah, in perhaps the happiest moment in their life. I recommend you enter Google book and search for the 1987 and 2006 editions of biographies of Yul. There is a whole chapter about "The King and I" and about the relationship between Yul and Deborah. In fact, she said about him that "he is very, very handsome and very, very sensual" and that "he doesn't resemble anyone else.Yul is strictly Yul". Also she said "Working with Yul was always one of my greatest pleasures, as was being photographed by him. I miss him." Did you know that Yul actually directed "The King and I". He took the control over everything. He had many complaints about the crew, but he admired and even adored Deborah. He once said "Fortunately, I had my Deborah Kerr...She was heaven. She was the perfect Mrs. Anna. She understood Mrs. Anna completely. She understood the relationship between the two. And this is really what made the picture work". Also, Deborah said "Yul helped me so much, taught me so much. He rehearsed with me so much. He was so wonderful. I'll be forever his slave". Yul's third wife, J. de Croisset said that Yul and Deborah "had an equal-to-equal relationship, like brother and sister. They totally trusted one another." Yul and Deborah remained the best of friends until his death, in 1985. But, you know, there is a coincidence-both of them died in October. I am sure they were twin souls and I am happy that they remained friends even after they stopped making films together. These photos of Deborah were made by Yul. You know, he was a great photographer and his daughter, Victoria Brynner, published his photos in a book.
  16. Look at "A tribute to Yul Brynner".
  17. Yul Brynner was very, very charming. And I think he was one of the greatest actors that Hollywood ever had. I mean, just think about the roles he had-Asian king, gunfighter, officer, robot, Arabian a.s.o. I have here many new interesting photos. Here are Yul and Deborah at the press conference for "The Journey". Now, I want to ask you, why didn't this film earn not even a nomination for Oscar, or an European award? I searched the Internet and found lots of books and magazines from the 50's-70's, about "The Journey". I love this photo. Is from the backstage scenes from "The Journey". Yul and Deborah together. Only that Yul seems a little angry... Here, he is taking a picture. Did you know that Yul was the principal photographer for "The King and I"? Here, he's taking a photo to the stuntman who interpreted the famous accident scene. Here are Deborah and Yul, in another very famous scene-the kiss scene. I read in a book that this kiss was the second most famous kiss in history, after GWTW. They said there that after 20 years, the kiss of Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr is similar to the kisses of Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh. I've recently found another publicity portrait of Yul and Deborah. I love the way they posed, she seems so fragile and he is strong. He dominates her. And, finally, 2 new portraits of Yul as Major Nikolai Surov. Message was edited by: Monik
  18. Audrey was a splendid woman! I adore her in "Roman Holiday", "Charade" and "My fair lady". She was a brilliant actress
  19. In the memory of our beloved Yul Brynner, I invite all his fans to write about him on this page. You know, he had a quite hard life, especially before he arrived in Hollywood. He had a terrible accident at the circus where he was working and he was baddly hurt. He had problems with his back, for example. This happened when he was around 20 years old. Did you know that he had a daughter born out of wedlock? Her name is Lark and she was born in 1958, in Austria-probably he had a relationship with a woman he met while he was filming for "The Journey", with Deborah Kerr.
  20. I am so glad you have posted the pictures with Vivien. She would've been very happy to see how many people still love her.
  21. 07/07/1967: 41 years since Vivien's death. I invite everybody who loves this magnificent actress to write thoughts about her.
  22. What do you think about Deborah's beauty? Do you consider her an attractive woman? I think that, first of all, she had a perfect body She was also tall.
  23. I thought that the documentary criticised both Clark and Vivien, because it reveals problems of their behaviour. They didn't show too much about their films, but about their family problems. I liked much more "Vivien Leigh: Scarlett and beyond" and the 2 documentaries of Clark, which were presented on TCM.
  24. You are perfectly right! Deborah's biography was wonderful, but, although I am sure that she was one of the most serious actresses of Hollywood, in her life there were more than 2 men (her husbands). I heard she had a relationship with the director of "The life and death of Colonel Blimp", one of her first films. And she was only 21 then...I was very sad about the way were presented Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable, who are my favorite actors. Those who made the biography were trully unrealistic
  25. With what actors did she have a relationship? I heard that she and Burt Lancaster were lovers and she was very good friends with Yul Brynner, Cary Grant and Robert Mitchum.
