Classic Movie Stars as Disney Characters?
pancakes_barbara replied to Nikkymo's topic in General Discussions
[Tallulah Bankhead was the inspiration |http://disney.go.com/vault/archives/villains/cruella/cruella.html] for Cruella de Vil. I can totally see her in that part. -
Charles Laughton! Broadway Limited - Patsy & Zasu First A Girl & Sailing Along- More Jessie Mathews! I loved Evergreen Sequoia & Zenobia- look very interesting Palmy Days - I think everyone wants to see this one! Doctor Faustus - Dick & Liz! Sisters Under the Skin - an interesting title..but what is it about? One Heavenly Night - I'll finally get to see Lilyan Tashman! Lots of '!' for November!

I know John Gilbert wrote and directed a handful of silent films- do any of those survive? -

Methinks you're missing the point of this thread, TripleHHH. And I explained why I "don't like" Oz, so you can look again to see what's wrong with me .

I was just looking at her filmography (I've seen more of her films than I thought), and I totally forgot about Two for the Road...that one was actually OK, but again, I think it was more style than substance. Your comments were interesting, though, Capuchin ! I can (almost) see what you mean.

> {quote:title=Capuchin wrote:}{quote} > I love Audrey, but I can't stand *Wait Until Dark*. It's obviously a 'kissed the cow' sort of thing. I should have clarified- I enjoy that performace purely on a camp basis. I don't understand 'the cult' of Audrey...she didn't die young, she didn't win a ton of awards...my impression is that's it's based purely on emulating her. She seems so vapid, what, besides her style, is there to emulate?
-
Personally, I don't like Kate because she's the same in every film. She seems to have had so much self-assurance in real life (and I admirer her for that) that it --clouded-- killed her ability to change her characters. Audrey's voice actually bothers me more than Kate's! The only performance of hers I like is in Wait Until Dark, but I really haven't seen many of her films. I try to avoid what I know I won't like. I don't just watch movies because they're 'classics'. Message was edited by: pancakes_barbara

*Guess Who's Coming to Dinner* *Breakfast At Tiffany's* (I don't like the Hepburns!) *Cimarron (1931)* (This really was hellish to sit through...I still don't know why I stuck with it.) *Brief Encounter* *All This, and Heaven Too* *Wuthering Heights* (I love melodramas but these just didn't click) *The Wild One* (I hate Method Actors!! You can just see them thinking.Montgomery Clift, Brando, Pacino. All of those guys. Paul Newman not so much, but I think that's only because I'm rarely watching his face ) As for *The Wizard Of Oz*, I can totally relate to the Judy-lovers who don't like it. I mean, I do like it, but I think I've just seen it so many times, and I've been watching it since I was so young, that I have a hard time connecting it with classic film in general. It's become boring.

As noted on sugarpuss's [blog|http://theroadshowversion.wordpress.com/2008/03/26/the-mary-martin-and-jean-arthur-show-rhythm-on-the-river-1940/] Jean Arthur and Mary Martin look amazingly alike- Whatever happened to sugarpuss?? I loved her blog.

I've seen it, but I can think of a worse one- [*The Eyes Have It*|http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0026328/]. I will never understand the appeal of Bergen & McCarthy. -

I love Adrian, but everyone always forgets about Travis Banton- And for some reason [this picture |http://cache.viewimages.com/xc/2643486.jpg?v=1&c=ViewImages&k=2&d=4176526AFF73458732B0D3EFA1EEB846A55A1E4F32AD3138] wouldn't show up. Message was edited by: pancakes_barbara to fix images -

> {quote:title=CineMaven wrote:}{quote} > > > Aaaaaaah you are a genius among geniuses! By Jove I've got it. And she's one of my favorites! Sometimes you need to save a picture to your computer or put it in PhotoBucket for it to show up. Keep trying!

Bronxgirl48, I just learned how to post pictures here and it's super easy- 1. Find a picture. Got it? Good. 2. Right mouse click on that picture. 3. Click 'Properties' 4. In the box that pops up you'll see a URL address for that picture. Copy it. 5. Start your post. Put in this code where you want the picture ** 6. Put a space between the *g* and the *s*. (I had to erase it so that it wouldn't revert to code) 7. In between the *=* and the *>* paste the address from the picture. That's it!

Seeing Perc Westmore was a neat, and Gene Krupa was great, but other than that...yeah, it was pretty pointless. And poor Glenda Farrell- upstaged by Mabel Todd (who's always described as annoying, but I kind of like her).

Besides The Naughty Flirt, I've only seen in her as a supporting actress in Employee's Entrance, Picture Snatcher, Jimmy the Gent, & Flamingo Road, all of which have been shown on TCM in the past year or so. And after reading your very informative article, I would really love to see more of her starring roles.
