  1. I think Olivia de Havilland would make an ideal babysitter - gentle and motherly but with great inner strength and a will of steal. For the men, I'd pick Jimmy Stewart, although Cary Grant would probably keep them entertained the whole time!

  2. As a newer fan of classic movies, I haven't seen enough of 1939's movies to know who or what was left out at the Oscars. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of them on TCM this month. But I agree with you, Spencer, that much as I enjoyed Hattie McDaniel's work in GWTW, Olivia's was superior. I can understand why Hattie won the Oscar, but I think it's a shame Olivia's fine work wasn't awarded.

  3. There are so many beautiful leading ladies - I especially agree with the choices of Vivien Leigh and Grace Kelly. I also would put Olivia de Havilland in this category - I read that Warner Brothers producer Henry Blanke said "she was so beautiful it hurt."
