Clue #3 - Roulette wheel

Clue #2 - a western

O.K. I'm back. Anyone want to play? Let's see: Clue #1 - not the original title
-
Thanks, I was pretty sure what the answer was earlier but didn't have time to play. Now, unfortunately, esp. with you leaving just now, I can't really start a game 'cause I've got to go myself fairly soon. Perhaps others would like to play though ... feel free to start a game!

North By Northwest!

O.K., gotta go and probably won't be back today or tomorrow (at least in the AM) so I'll suspend this one so that another can start and others can play the game. Until then ...

This can be a really good topic, thanks for starting it. I can't think of any other movie pet peeves at the moment (mind mushy at the moment) other than: 5. Movies that are made from books - I read a lot and I know that movies (at best?) can only capture the highlights from most novels, the medium is different, blah blah blah. But I can only think of a couple of films (other than the aforementioned To Kill A Mockingbird) I really liked which I saw AFTER I read the book though I don't know how successful they were. My guess is that they did NOT do very well at the box office. But they were faithful to the book. The two I can think of off the top of my head are The Great Train Robbery (written and directed by the author of the novel - Michael Crichton of Jurassic Park fame) and The Day of the Jackal (no, not the Bruce Willis remake). Otherwise, I'm sorely disappointed in most film adaptations 'cause they are either entirely different from the book (Absolute Power comes to mind) or they miss the point. I guess, more recently, the Harry Potter films have been fairly faithful to the book and successful at the box office (and I don't know about the LOTR series since I never read the books). I'm sure this comes off as a rant, but it's not meant to be one. I love both mediums, I indulge in both to the extreme, but never the two shall meet? Don't know;-)

Hey, I haven't actually seen this one ... I cheated, sorry. I have time for a quick game if you're game. Doesn't seem to be anyone else around, but this is fun! Clue #1 - Spanish Dancer

I thought Love with a Proper Stranger was a comedy ...
-
Yes, those are good examples of scenes which have become too pat IMO too. In fact, most of the older movies you watch are annoying as far as people driving-and-talking are concerned, don't you think? I mean, the background has almost no relation to what the driver is doing. The good news is, though, with older films, is we've got a plot INSTEAD of just special effects, eh? Women throwing drinks in men's faces is almost as common as a man "getting fresh" and stealing a kiss only to get his face slapped. The funniest spoof of this is in the Quiet Man when Wayne catches O'Hara's slap! Card games are also overdone, I totally agree. The hands that win are so RARE ... but hey, it's the movies;-) WRT your #4, isn't this the way it is with your spouse? I guess they can't show the silent treatment persona non grata for days in movies effectively;-)

Well this one's definitely not a comedy. It sounds familiar, but I can't bring it out. I'll guess Fast Times at Ridgemont High to get another clue ;-)
-
Mogambo (to get another clue)
-
Technically, I think Fatal Attraction was more than once ;-)
-
Yes! WTG stlgal ... one of my newest favorites too, great Bette Davis film! Your turn
-
No, nice try though and welcome "come-up-with-a-handle-other-than-antar" ;-) Clue #2 - A coal mine
-
Yes, now that I do remember it, I wonder how I ever forgot it. I was trying to hone in on your "large instrument" clue for a long time. Your last clue did it;-) Thanks. Morning everyone! O.K., here goes: Clue #1 - A Teacher
-
Mr. Deeds Goes to Town ... forgot about the instrument;-)
-
Yup;-) Thanks for playing today, I'm done till tomorrow.
-
Clue #5 - Art imitating life?
-
Welcome back everyone (I've noticed from other posts;-) Clue #4 - Shakespeare
-
No, but I just love that movie with John and Maureen ... Clue #3 - some tutors
-
No, but a good guess Clue #2 - fight in a hayloft
-
I can't believe it, guess I'm just lucky. Anyway, Clue #1 - a substantial dowry
-
The Ladykillers?
-
Well, I'll feel like an idiot if the answer is Scaramouche ;-)
