What do these films have in common? (1936-1943)
path40a replied to cjrogan2003's topic in General Discussions
antar, agreed! Though I will admit that in my youth I was completely UNINTERESTED in watching a film if it was in B&W. Then, when I got my own little B&W around the time I turned 17, and I started watching it a lot ... I got used to it and then, much later, I began to really appreciate the B&W medium. Apologies in advance though, I was initially fascinated (vs. horrified) when Turner started colorizing the old classics. I thought "wow, now I can see what everything is supposed to look like". However, once I saw It's a Wonderful Life in color, I said "this is bad, everything looks awful ... give me back the B&W image". So, you live and learn I guess;-) -
Tired of this game? If not, why doesn't someone begin one? It's not like the games have to played within a few minutes with everyone on-line at the same time, right? ... waiting ... ;-)

Is this one anyone is familiar with? I received it as a recommendation some time ago and haven't ever seen it. Is it in the TCM library? Thanks in advance for any information about this film.
-
Thanks for posting this list too! I'm always looking for new recommendations and there are several on your list in each category that are new to me. Of course, some of them will be hard to find:-(

Louis Jourdan in The Heiress? Do you mean Montgomery Clift?

coffeedan, unless you know something the rest of us don't, the schedule for January (not June) just went up, right? If you know how to get the schedule for more than three months out, please let us know ... inquiring minds want to know;-)

This is a pretty good movie, thrilling ending too. But what makes it so special, in my mind, is the cast. It has James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan. It also has Frank Morgan, Robert Young, Robert Stack, Bonita Granville and Maria Ouspenskaya. What a cast! Knowing the roles several of these actors made famous later (e.g. on TV) makes the roles they play in this film all the more interesting, I think. Now the best news yet, for those who've yet to see it, it's going to be shown in January! Feaito, I'm still waiting to hear what you thought of it since I put it in the 21 questions trivia game and you said you had it taped. If you've had a chance to watch it, reply with your comments if you please. Thanks.

Well, it happened again, for me anyway. I realize it could be a coincidence. However, I requested (both on these boards and through the "suggest a movie") that TCM air The Little Foxes with Bette Davis. And, sure enough, in January, they'll be showing it! Thanks TCM!!!

... till tonight when I can see Robert Osborne's private screening with Shirley MacLaine!!!
-
It sounds like an interesting story, but I'm drawing a blank. If you have anymore details, B&W vs. Color, what decade it was released, any of the cast, other plot points, it might be possible to find it with a search at imdb.com Good luck! Could it have been a TV movie? Or, a short story on a TV program? What you've provided thus far isn't much (plot-wise) to go on and may not have been a feature length film.

Audrey Hepburn was the prettiest actress
path40a replied to carlrychlik's topic in General Discussions
Yes, she was definitely a beautiful lady, on screen and off. I think Maureen O'Hara is another one in her league and a few others. And I'm sure there are others as well. So many wonderful, charming, memorable performances for Audrey with Roman Holiday, Sabrina, and My Fair Lady being my favorites. -
I had one of those moments Saturday nights. You know the kind, you turn on the TV and find that TCM is showing a truly outstanding film you've seen before and, even though you have, you can't stop watching it. When the movie ends you have that warm feeling inside that validates your love for the classics. Well, that's what happened to me a couple of nights ago when I found that To Kill A Mockingbird was on TCM! A truly great film. Of course, Hollywood had a fantastic piece of work from Harper Lee to work with in the first place. Perhaps that is what's wrong with the movies of today ... maybe there aren't any truly great novels being written anymore?

Yes, it is Anthony Adverse ... another classic I need to thank TCM for showing this year! See y'all tomorrow?
