Baclanova's was great also as the evil woman in "Freaks" (1932)...and also in the 1928 Von Sternberg's "The Docks of New York" with Betty Compson...released in very cheap VHS which I bought at amazon.com...also bought "The Last Command" with Emil Jannings...also released is the 1928 "The Wedding March" with Fay Wray and Erich Von Stroheim...which I haven't acquired yet!!!
BTW also available on dvd is Swanson's "Queen Kelly"..at amazon.com and Deepdiscountdvd.com as edge told us yesterday...great prices.....
Garden of Eden is available, since at least one or more years ago at amazon.com and deepdiscount...(better price)...also recommend to you the dvd copy of "Honeymoon in Bali" with Madeleine Carroll and Fred MacMurray who made many films together....at amazon.com you also can find better prices from Z Shops and Marketplace sellers...

Paty..I forgot to recommend the Warner Home video of Kate Hepburn's "Alice Adams" (1935) and Little Women (1933), which are also great....and so is the release of Vincent Price's 1953 "House of Wax"...'cos it includes 1933 "The Mystery of the Wax Museum"...with a wonderful Glenda Farrell, Fay Wray, Lionel Atwill...can't wait the release of "Island of Lost Souls" (1933) on dvd with Charles Laughton!!!!
-
Yeah you're right about Laura LaPlante...I watched her in my dvd copy of Lonely Wives, and I liked her very much (also Patsy Ruth Miller and Esther Ralston on the film) in it..opposite the great Edward Everett Horton...a wonderful Roan Group Release. Thanks for the feedback on "Love Trap"..'cos I have it on my wish list, and I haven't access to sth. like Netflix in my country.
BTW, I also recommend to you the Criterion edition of "The Most Dangerous Game" (1932) with Joel McCrea, Fay Wray and Leslie Banks, The Kino? release of "The Old Dark House" (1932), with Charles Laughton, Gloria Stuart, Lillian Bond, Melvyn Douglas, Raymond Massey, Boris Karloff; and the Roan Groups releases of "Behind Office Doors" with Mary Astor, Robert Ames and Ricardo Cortez (Nice!!); Another one that includes a good copy of Bette Davis's "Of Human Bondage" (1934), plus the cute "Kept Husbands" (1931) with Joel McCrea and Dorothy Mackaill and the grand Helen Twelvetress in "Millie" (1931), also featuring Robert Ames, James Hall and the grandioses LiLyan Tashman & Joan Blondell; and another release that includes wonderful "Bird of Paradise" with Dolores del R?o and Joel McCrea; and "The Lady Refuses" (stiff and somewhat talky), but still worthwhile 'cos it features great Betty Compson, with John Darrow and Gilbert Emery. I also recommend to you "Dixiana" (1930) which features a nice ending in two-strip technicolor with Bill "Bojangles" Robinson...plus Bebe Daniels, Everett Marshall and Wheeler and Woolsey...also the early westerns "Fighting Caravans" with Gary Cooper and Lili Damita (released in cheap edition along "A Farewell To Arms", another goodie) and "The Big Trail" (1930) with John Wayne and pretty Marguerite Churchill. ufffffff!!!

I've got the dvd of the movie, but really don't remember it....

"J" is right and it matches...Dolores del R?o plays here Inez, the Duchess of Rye...I checked it at usimdb.com...upon reading a review I'm eager to watch it now!!!!!
-
I haven't seen it but it may be "With A song in my heart" (1952), where she portrays real-life singer Jane Froman...'cos I'm almost sure it's not "I'll Cry Tomorrow" (1955), where she plays Lillian Roth....
Hope this helps

Again pals..another Kino DVD release of a Wyler little known film...I watched it again last week, and its one of Margaret Sullavan's greatests!! Set in Budapest, just like "The Shop Around The Corner", and it has Frank Morgan too...and Herbert Marshall...she works as an usher in a very luxurious Cinema, and all begins...It's an endearing, sweet, grand human comedy..I loved it all over again. Kino must be praised for their beautiful releases of good copies of these gems (Let's not forget Love Me Tonight).
Greatly recommended.

I just wanted to share with you folks, my experience and feelings upon watching this GREAT pre-code, thoroughly enjoyable, entertaining, excellently acted, fast paced, non-stop dialogue, ....This film alone shows John Barrymore at his best (as a ruthless lawyer of humble origins), I won't say anything more, in order to not spoil it....but he's top of the tops in this early Universal pictures release....kudos for KINO, for releasing a decent copy (DVD) of this gem. Bebe Daniels is outstanding as his scretary...Isabel Jewell, great as unnerving telephone operator, little known Doris Kenyon, very good as Barrymore's socialite wife... also in it an early performance by reliable Melvyn Douglas and Thelma Todd too...What more can one ask? Don't know if TCM has ever shown this gem.
William Wyler is definitely one of the best american directors of all time!!!

Exactly my friend, the 1939 "Tower of London", starring Basil Rathbone, Boris Karloff, Vincent Price, Barbara O'Neil, .....I liked that film!!
Your turn "J"

Sadly edge it was Scarlet Letter plus Gaynor's "A Star is Born" and the Gary Cooper "A Farewell to Arms"...all public domain copies.....
BTW, Paty, forgot to tell you that i bought, many years ago, a public domain copy (by MADACY) of Swanson's 1931 "Indiscreet" (less than 4 bucks)...and it's horrible, but in some weird way I liked Swanson, although, I?m sure that "Tonight or Never" is a much better film....the thing is that I'm not gonna pay 30 bucks, for a good-looking copy of a less than good movie!
BTW the DVD edition of the 1935 movie "She" starring Randolph Scott is very good...
-
Thanks for the info edge...hope the dvd they're offering is not the public domain copy of "Scarlet Letter"...
Paty...You're right, I remember that Grapevine Video Company...had it on my favorites folder, but never bought anything from them...sad they closed!!....Thanks for what you said about "Tonight or Never", 'cos boy! the dvd release is pricey and i have it on my wish list!!! so I'll erase it promptly...besides "Sunset Boulevard" I've Heard that "The Trespasser" (Oscar Nomination) and "Music in the Air" are Swanson's best talkies...have you seen them???...
Today I bought a second-hand copy of the De-Luxe edition of Corinne Griffith's "The Garden of Eden"...I'd love to watch her in "Black Oxen"....lost film?....Also I'd love to watch Norma Talmadge in some of her silents.....Also Bought a second-hand copy of Loretta Young's Pre-Code "Born to Be Bad"...they say it's good!
I've recommended it in many threads, but again, truly Paty et al, the late silent, Evangeline (1929) (on dvd and VHS) with Dolores del R?o is a great buy!!!..an excellent release by Image...BTW, I'd love to catch her MGM silent "The Trail of '98", have they shown it on TCM???
-
Talking About Colleen Moore, anyone knows were can I buy a vhs or dvd of any of her films, besides her final picture, the 1934 The Scarlet Letter??
-

He was still active, I mean wasn't he featured in last year's "Down with Love" ?....Great actor...who will ever forget him in those great Rock Hudson-Doris Day Comedies. Another huge loss. Very good comedian. Hope things doesn't come in three's this time..

She was a very beautiful and talented actress...she looked ravishing in 1937's british "King Solomon's Mines", available on dvd (with John Loder, Paul Robeson, Roland Young, Cedric Hardwicke), she played a very interesting type of woman...completely different (IMHO) from the type played by also lovely, Deborah Kerr, in the glossy MGM 1951 version opposite Stewart Granger....she also was in "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" as the dignified wife of George Sanders?....and well the aforementioned "Fort Apache" and "How Green..."...great movies. She will be missed, but she left her "acting" legacy on those movies, that will remain forever with us.

One of my faves Bogey or Humphrey Bogart

Paty and others, hope this is useful
Also at amazon I've been able to get excellent new and second hand copies of:
"Devotion" (1931), a nice drawing-room comedy with Leslie Howard and Ann Harding.
"The Silver Horde" (1930), a very entertaining yarn with Joel McCrea, Evelyn Brent, Jean Arthur and Blanche Sweet.
"Consolation Marriage" a nice little film with Irene Dunne, Pat O'Brien, Lester Vail, Matt Moore and Myrna Loy
"Bachelor Apartment" (1931), a funny early talkie with the great Mae Murray in an extremely funny and "overacted" performance (she only made three talkies), which also features Irene Dunne and Lowell Sherman.
"The Animal Kingdom", a great adaptation of Philip Barry's play featuring Ann Harding, Leslie Howard and Myrna Loy.
"Night After Night", a great pre-code with George Raft, Constance Cummings, Wynne Gibson, Alison Skipworth and Mae West.}
"Arrowsmith" with Helen Hayes and Ronald Colman (excellent!)
