Sorry Stoney and I swear that I taped them all from TCM, most of them when they premiered (in 2002 or 2003?, do not remember) the "Complicated Women" documentary about women in Pre-Code films...they aired a lot of of them: "Faithless", "Torch Singer", "Baby Face" "Frisco Jenny", "Female" & many more. Those tapes are treasures for me!
-
As far as I can remember, especially from historic sources, 'cos I saw the film a long time ago, she was arrested, tried and condemned, charged of being a spy (in Belgium) because she helped refugee soldiers from countries which fought against Germany during World War I.
-
...And thus she's tried for espionage?
-
Because she helped soldiers who were prisoners in German War-Camps, to escape from there?
-
I also must chime in on the Pre-Code suggestion and may I add that most of the Pre-Codes I have seen and taped, have been aired on TCM, e.g.: "Faithless", "Torch Singer", "The Sign of the Cross", "The Smiling Lieutenant", "Baby Face", "The Front Page", "Dynamite", "Gabriel over the White House", "Madame DuBarry" and many more. Thanks TCM, you have done (and will continue so) a great job!

Hey d120421, your posts are so interesting, smart and so-very-informative, you surely have got deep knowledge on Deanna's career, thank you very much for sharing all this with us. I really hope TCM could lease some of Deanna's movies, we'd had a field day!

It sounds like sth. Margaret Hamilton could have told Bonita Granville in "These Three" or sth. Patty McCormack could have said in "The Bad Seed"...those two are my favorite "obnoxious brats" films.

Yes congratulations D120421, and very informative.
