Mongo, Have you heard anything from Mary Lou?, I haven't for almost 10 days and my e-mails to her have been returned lately with the message: "could not be delivered". I am worried about her.
I'd appreciate if you could tell me she's OK.
Thanks.

Definitely Amazon.com, where you can find a huge selection of classic movies.
Also there are marketplace sellers who sometimes offer DVD, VHS and books, new and used, at very good prices, even many unavailable & out of print stuff.

I my opinion, Cary Grant is the best film-actor of all time and Kate Hepburn the best film-actress. I won't discuss it here, 'cos it would take too long, but I think film acting is different than theatre-acting, for instance. So, maybe Olivier was one of the greatest theatre actors, but I do not consider him the best film-actor of them all, 'cos I think that he didn't create a recognizable "screen-personae", like Grant, Stewart or Cooper. I just have a different approach to the subject.
I just loved "Bringing Up Baby". One of the best screwballs along with "My Man Godfrey".
As for Cary's dramatic range I loved "Penny Serenade", "Destination Tokyo" and "The Howards of Virginia"....He was good at black humor too ("Arsenic and Old Lace") and in "special" films like "Talk of the Town".
I do have to agree with some, that in spite that I liked "Notorious", I also feel, that as movie it is somewhat overrated.

May he rest in peace.
This one surprised me in a sad way, I didn't expect him to die, he looked so healthy and strong.
He seemed to have been a very down-to-earth guy, very talented and had an exceptional voice; he was top-notch in "Kiss Me Kate" (One of my Fave Musicals), "Seven Brides For Seven Brothers", "Show Boat", "Lovely To Look At"...

I agree with Alix, Mick LaSalle's "Dangerous Men" and "Complicated Women", are very entertaining & fast reading.
In "Dangerous Men", the author makes such a good analysis of Richard Barthelmess "personae" & career, from a point of view I had never read before.
As for Vieira's "Sin in Soft Focus", besides the excellent writing and data, it contains some of the greatest photographs & stills from that Era, too.

Probably Moira 'cos Ethel was elder than Helen.
