great funny film...Mr. Webb was and ever will be Mr. Belvedere

Richard, I agree that "The Rains Came" is a glorious epic, sadly owned by Fox, so maybe no way of watching here at TCM, a great cast: Tyrone Power, George Brent, Nigel Bruce, Maria Ouspenskaya, Joseph Schildkraut, Jane Darwell, Laura Hope Crews, Marjorie Rambeau, Mary Nash, H.B. Warner & Henry Travers...great special effects, of an earthquake, a monsoon, rains, floodings...and Myrna Loy plays Lady Edwina Esketh with great skill, looking ravishing in those great gowns she wears through the movie. Definitely a must-see.
Myrna was born on August 2nd, the same day than me, so I feel "closely attached" to her, "somehow"...and she was down-to-earth, funny, sophisticated, sexy, elegant, talented, etc.
I bought her autobiography "Being & Becoming" and I'm eager to read it. For great stills and feedback about her films, try to get her out of print "The Films of Myrna Loy" by Lawrence J. Quirk.
Some really outstanding movies of Myrna: "From the Terrace", "The Best Years of Our Lives", "The Thin Man", "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House", "The Mask of Fu Manchu", "Cheaper by the Dozen", "I Love You Again", "Penthouse", "Broadway Bill", "Libeled Lady", "After the Thin Man", "Double Wedding", "To Mary With LOve", "Manhattan Melodrama", "Love Me Tonight" and "The Animal Kingdom".
If she was liberal, I admire her for that, too.

If one thinks about "newer" movies..what about the endings of "The Others" and "Sixth Sense"....or "Barfly"
-
The Black Cat?

Thanks Coffeedan...we'll think about it

Thanks Path!. You are right about the spell checker (chuckles)...I'm always in a hurry!
-
One of the most offbeat endings (IMHO) was "Trouble in Paradise's"....also the remarkable ending of "Portrait of Jennie" (poetic)....and as for dramatic endings..."High Sierra" and "Duel in the Sun", come to my mind.

Mae West in "She done him a wrong", to a very young Cary Grant?

You are so right...we got into a "Korngold" mood...I like that!

Ava Gardner as the doomed Julie in "Showboat"

I'd love to watch her silent films..."Prix de Beaut?", "Pandora's Box", etc. Great personality & talent, lovely Louise Brooks.

I have to give credit to my wife too...she opened for me Chaplin's world...since she first saw "Modern Times" when she was studying in College, and told me how much she enjoyed it...I became very curious about it, 'cos I had always been mainly a 1930's-1950's film buff....then I watched "Gold Rush", "City Lights", "The Kid", later "Modern Times".....and this was not just slapstick....no, no, no...this was ART. sentiment, Joy and Truth. And yes, thanks to TCM I've had the opportunity of watching Chaney's films and other great ones. The power of the Face & image. I would love to watch all of Garbo's silents, BTW.

Since we've been chatting about this topic...I've been listening all this morning to a Tape (I recorded from a vinyl I bought in January 1984!!), with Korngold's most famous Themes. Since I hadn't listened to it for a loongg time....'cos you know, one mainly listens to cd's now, my wife told me, wow! how beautiful!!! We were having breakfast with Korngold's haunting melodies as background music....
Now I'm listening to a CD I bought a long time ago (1993) titled "Classic Film Scores" for Humphrey Bogart, with music by Steiner, Waxman, Rozsa....Which reminds me of 1984, when I bought that vinyl, I had to choose (since I couldn't afford them both, I was 16 then) between the Korngold One (The Sea Hawk and other Classic Film Scores) and one Titled "Classic Film Scores for Bette Davis"....A tough decision.
Thanks for bringing back all those memories.

Great post tflight, I loved "The Heiress" too, well, William Wyler (the director) is one of my very favorites .
And the cast: Monty Clift, Miriam Hopkins and Ralph Richardson...simply fantastic.
You are right about Olivia de Havilland, yes she played "plain" women in "GWTW" and "The Heiress", and maybe in "The Snake Pit", three of her most famous films, but she looked ravishing (IMHO) in stuff like "Anthony Adverse", "A Midsummer's Night Dream", "Captain Blood", "The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex", "The Great Garrick", "The Charge of the Light Brigade", etc..
Joan Fontaine was equally beautiful in "Frenchman's Creek", "A Damsel in Distress", etc.
Besides, both are very talented.
You made an excellent analysis of "The Heiress", congratulations! It is great to read posts with such intelligent insight.

You're right Louis Jourdan is a good actor...I liked him too in "The Paradine Case".
Thanks for the great feedback concerning "My Cousin Rachel". Did you like "The Heiress"?

Yeah "Kings Row" Main Theme is grrreaatt..it is my favorite.... and the "Devotion" Theme too....Some of my other faves are "Deception", "The Constant Nymph", "The Sea Hawk", "Juarez", "Of Human Bondage" (1946 version), "Escape Me Never", "Captain Blood" and "Between Two Worlds"....Korngold's always been my top fave Hollywood composer.
