  1. For me Cary Grant is not only my fave...but the best actor in Hollywood history...he excelled at drama (i.e.: Penny Serenade), black comedy (Arsenic and Old Lace), screwball comedy (Bringing Up Baby), thrillers (North by Northwest), romance (An Affair to Remember), etc. Shame, shame, shame he never won an acting A.A. Nor Hitchcock BTW.

Kate Hepburn is my fave and his counterpart as best actress of Hollywood history.

  2. Yeah my three vhs editions need to be replaced!!!...I'd also would have been nice if they had inlcuded, "That's Dancing"...although, a "lesser" documentary, it's worthwhile anyway...and I enjoyed it!

  3. Yeah MovieJoe, agree with you...I bought "I was a male War Bride" in February....great flick with Ann Sheridan!!!...Also, highly recommended DVD's (from Cary), which I've bought these years: "People Will Talk" (Fox release)..."Only Angels Have Wings", "Arsenic and Old Lace", "I?m No Angel", "Talk of the Town" (just OK print), "The Awful Truth" (although the print is of uneven quality), "To Catch a Thief", "Operation Petticoat", "North by Northwest", "Charade", "An Affair To Remember", "Philadelphia Story", "Once Upon a Time" (this one brings me memories of my childhood), "His Girl Friday" (The Columbia Sony release), "Notorious", "Penny Serenade" (Only PD copies here).....

I'm thinking of buying "Kiss them for Me"...."Father Goose", "Walk, Don't Run", "Indiscreet" and "the Grass is Greener" leave me sort of "cold", although I must recognize "Indiscreet" is the better film of that bunch....."That Touch of MInk" is charming...

  4. It's an excellent buy, it features: "Night and Day" (1946), "My Favorite Wife" (1940), "Destination Tokyo" (1943), "The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer" (1947) and "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House" (1948).

All of this movies I've watched at least once in my life, except "Destination Tokyo".

Last Saturday my wife and I enjoyed very much "Night and Day"....great print, glorious music, Monty Woolley is terricfly funny & ironic as himself....wonderful vocals by Ginny Sims, Mary Martin and Jane Wyman. Great Bonuses.

Yesterday we watched "Mr. Blandings...", what a comedy! with Melvyn Douglas and Myrna Loy in top form!! Look for Lex Barker (future Tarzan and future Lana Turner husband)in a bit role...well, and Cary is great as usual. Nice Bonuses.

Looking forward to watch "My Fave Wife"...featuring Irene Dunne, a young Randy Scott and "nasty" Gail Patrick...when I saw this one, her character reminded me of her Cornelia (Lombard's sister)in "My Man Godfrey" (1936)(Criterion's DVD release is good BTW)and "Destination Tokyo".... must be a nice pairing Cary and John Garfield!!!...Well and Shirley Temple with Cary and Myrna in "The Bachelor..." too...

Warner Home Video MUST release "Bringing Up Baby", "Gunga Din", "Sylvia Scarlett" and "Holiday" on DVD!!!

  5. Yeah PMg..at least cd's have been around since 1980!!!...I've got almost 3 hundred and sth DVD's...a cherished collection...these people who run the business...well most of them, not all....let's not forget Flicker Alley or Kino....just care about profits!...We have our "hearts" in this passion...I'll stick to DVD's and to VHS as well...

  6. Anyone has read Bill Gates statements on the German Newspaper "Bild" today?...he says that DVD's Technology will be obsolete in less than 10 years!! I read it with my mouth wide open!!...Cannot believe that it can be true! So fast? I've invested pretty much of my income in buying dvd equipment and discs....oh my gosh....maybe it's a sort of strategy of him?

    Any opinions....??

  7. Besides all the ones mentioned I can recall (Antar, you'll agree...) Lovely Hedy Lamarr, Lana Turner and Judy Garland walking down that huge Stairway on stage to the tune "You've Stepped Out od a Dream" (Tony Martin sang?)...in "Ziegfeld Girl"...as well, from the same film Jimmy Stewart's scene with Lana Turner...when she falls from the stairs....very entertaining film.....and what about the HUGE stairs (the "hugest" of them all...one of the most expensive numbers ever filmed!!!) of the "A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody" number in "The Great Ziegfeld"??? with a very young Dennis Morgan singing.....plus lots and lots of extras and Virginia Bruce at the top of ths Stairs...like a "Crown Jewel"!!
