  1. I read Whitney Stine's book called Mother Goddam about Bette Davis and that is where I got

my info on Mr. Skeffington..Originally it wasn't Vivien Leigh being considered it was Hedy Lamarr

and Bette knew she was no raving beauty, so she did some tests and her genius hair-dresser

Maggie Donovan designed these gorgeous hair-dos and the tests looked fine..then she decided to raise her voice one full octave to give it that girlish quality..the part that was added later was the vicious ladies discussing how old she now looked after her dinner party...

I was very iinterested by the fact her daughter was leaving to become Mrs. Johnny Mitchell and he was the suitor who asked Bette to marry him the day her daughter came back into her life,,,

  2. Mr. Skeffington was originally supposed to be shot in Tecnicolor, in fact Bette made some Technicolor tests with Natilie Kalmus warning Davis she should not wear pastels and Bette answering "Mrs. Kalmus if we do this in color I shall wear many pastels" (where are these tests?) any way they used black and white with special lenses to make Bette look younger and prettier - I love this film and especially the relationship with her daughter..of course this cannot be remade today in these times of plastic surgery

    face lifts and Botox.
