Violet- Thank You for the very interesting info- since I love this film, I really appreciate it.Bette would have been great in this I'm sure- but I'm glad it was Olivia deHavilland. She was so young and beautiful in this one. If the Gale Sondergaard and the Angela character had some interaction with each other, maybe Bette would have been a better choice. Since they didn't, I'm happy with the film the way it stands.

as far as *The Birdcage* ( imho)- the ensemble cast couldn't have been better, and yes Dianne Wiest is one of my very favorite actress'.
