  1. Here's a hint. Think about the TV show, think about a novel and film very popular and iconic that would be the same sort of genre as the tv show. It's obvious who the actor is. I already wrote there were 3 main characters on the tv show. You named the other 2 using the clues, who was the 3rd lead in the show. The actor was in movies with Paul Newman, James Coburn, William Holden, Steve McQueen

Is it The Man From Uncle?  David Mc. became a bit of a heartthrob and his Ilya K. character was once referenced on NCIS.  Leo G. Carroll acted in many movies (including several Hitchcock films).

A main character's name in a hit classic tv series was taken from a popular novel with the author's blessing,. The novel was made into an iconic film that's still enjoyed today. TV Show and the character's name and the actor who played him, the novel and film the name was taken from ???

Please look at the original question and answer it completly, Thanks. It is The Man From Uncle, however you did not answer this question completly. Info about David McCallum and Leo G Carroll were Clues, not the answer to the question.  The question is about The Man From Uncle, not NCIS. Can't give it to you till it's completed. Who is the actor in the tv show and what novel/film was his character name taken from ??

Not to be a nitpicker, but it's Jerry Mathers, not Larry.  You may be thinking of the name Larry Mathews, who played Richie on "The Dick Van Dyke Show".

    It's still Chaya's turn.

LOL Miles, I was watching Larry David on tv when I posted that. I'm well aware it's Jerry not Larry,  and I certainly was NOT thinking of Larry Mathews. I'm the one who thought of the question and to be honest, it was such an easy question and I'm amazed there was only one response and took so long. Now, Chaya, your turn.

  4. Thanks Swithin  :)

She was a beauty contest winner., a singer and actress. She was in a very famous film that's mentioned on the bds. and shown often on TCM. She does not sing in this famous film.

He was a bandleader, singer and actor. He reprised his famous Broadway role for the film. Couple, her famous film and his Broadway/film ????

  5. Yes, Larry Mathers asked his mother for a drink of water while he was on the set of another production. Hitchcock was there, overheard him, approached him, got Larry a drink of water and addressed him as Mr. Mathers and asked if he'd be interested in being in a movie.  Larry's show was Leave It To Beaver and John Forsythe starred in Bachelor Father and The Trouble With Harry with Larry as Shirley MacLaine's son. Both Beaver and Bachelor Father were on during the same years and Alfred Hitchcock Presents, his tv show was also on tv at that time too. Good work.

    Your thread Chaya

Well no, I didn't say I would cancel TCM because of a few shows.  I adore TCM.

The channel "I would have bought" if I wanted to watch people have sex would have been the Playboy channel or whatever.

Not really, you take me too literally, James.

Yes, I do pay a special fee for TCM it's part of a deal I made to stay with Spectrum when I was thinking of switching one time.

Thanks @ Lavenderblue19.  I'm much better now, a week ago I never would have been able to sit up and put my two cents in which shows you how desperately ill I was!

You're welcome Andrea, so glad that you're on the mend :)

I'm sure there are many students of film who are interested in the early work of certain directors or the quality of the light in some  film's final scene, or whether or not the director was a woman,  but I have COVID right now which has made me even crankier than usual, so when I got up at five the other morning and turned on TCM to shake the nightmares and found several people performing oral sex on each other in Labyrinth of Passion, I was not best pleased because, you know, if I had wanted hard core porn I would have bought a different channel.

Not speaking for anyone else,  just putting my vote in.😉

Andrea, hoping that you're feeling much better asap. Sorry to read you're ill.  I didn't watch the film, can't blame you for feeling that way about the programming.

He was a beloved Oscar-winning actor who appeared in several seminal and important classic films. She was known in England for her stage work, but she did make many movies and played the most important female role in a famous Shakespeare film.

Robert Donat and Renee Asherson ( Princess Katherine, Henry V) ???

Google and looking at the list of films, leads me to The Beaver AKA Jerry Mathers.  John Forsythe was both Bachelor Father, the voice of Charlie, and Dynasty.  If that is correct, I'll try to think of one but am not very good at Hitchcock trivia other than some basics.

Chaya, you neglected to mention the Hitchcock film

  10. Besides this actor who had an important role in the Hitchcock film, another actor had a starring role in the same Hitchcock film.. Both of these actors were in 2 different hit series basically at the same time. The question is about the first actor whose series lasted 6 seasons, this other actor's tv series lasted 5 seasons.

  11. Yes, that's the couple, Nancy Kelly and Edmond O'Brien. Nancy won a Tony for her Broadway performance in The Bad Seed and reprised the role in the film. Her brother was Jack Kelly,( Bart Maverick)  and Edmond O'Brien is the husband. DOA, White Heat, and won his Oscar as Best Supporting actor   for The Barefoot Contessa and nominated for Seven Days In May 10 years later. Good work Miles, you're up :)

  12. In the letter, a  man admits to  the young woman that he's married but he still wants to continue seeing her.  The young woman and the older woman meet to exchange pocketbooks and the older woman advises the young woman to stop seeing the man.

  13. I agree about Liz and Wilding. I always thought that was strange, Wilding seemed like a big bore. Liz's taste in men was different, remember Eddie and John Warner? LOL and that construction guy Larry. She would have stuck with Mike Todd had he lived. I think Burton was a look alike to Mike Todd.

Before this actor had a co-starring role in a tv show, Hitchcock overheard him ask for a drink of water on another set. Hitchcock was so impressed with the actor he offered the actor an important role in a Hitchcock film. Film, and the actor ??

     Good Evening

This post World War II Hitchcock film had as much drama behind the scenes as in front of the camera.

The two female stars jockied for top positions and Hitchcock's preferential treatment.

Both were Hollywood stars, but one ruled in the 30s and the other was very big in the 40s.

When you name the movie they both starred in, you can also tell us who you think got the better part of the movie, as you identify these two Hollywood stars.

Your question was who got the better part between the 2 female stars. so who do you think got the better part? I answered your question, your turn to answer your question. Alastair Sim is everyone's favorite no matter what role he plays and he certainly had the role that was the most fun in the film, but he was not a female lead LOL

I would think it might be Stage Fright. Jane Wyman and Marlene Dietrich. Marlene was a huge star in the 1930's and nominated for an Oscar for Morocco and Jane won her Oscar in the late 1940's for Johnny Belinda. Marlene was her glamourous self, costumes, beautiful jewels while Jane was portrayed as dowdy looking in most scenes. Marlene's role I think was the better part because of the glamour and the mystery arounding  her character in the film. The evil character is usually the more interesting character. Marlene is using Richard Todd, cheated on her husband, convincesTodd to kill her husband and she's carrying on with her manager. Jane's character is interesting since she does play Marlene's dresser and takes on a differesnt personna besides being the nice girl. They were both great parts but Marlene's was probably the the better role.

  16. One of the co-stars was an actor in many classic films before this role in this tv show. He was the 3rd lead in the tv show .He is NOT the one with the character name that was used in the novel and very famous film.
