  1. I was about to pass to  you Miles, since you got Nova Pilbeam ( what a name) LOL.

It's been said that while filming, there was tension between Hitchcock and his wife that lasted a long time. One of the reasons had to do with one of the stars. This actress was also in another Hitchcock film.  There was also another reason Alma was annoyed.  Film, the 2 reasons why there was tension between Hitchcock and his wife Alma and who was the female star ????

Hint#2-- The actress in question appeared in Hitch's British films.

J.M. Barre wrote Mary Rose ( Peter Pan too). I have no way to know what actress he wanted to star in Mary Rose, but I'll guess Madeleine Carroll based on your last Hitch clue??

Lew Ayres, Lola Lane, Ginger Rogers?

If that's correct, a conflated film title representing all three would be "All Quiet on the Mystery Ship Flying Down to Rio."

Yes, Lew ayres All Quiet On the Western Front, he was nominated for an Oscar for Johnny Belinda, and of course the Dr. Kildare films. Lola Lane as Bette's sister in Marked Woman, and The Four Daughter films, and  Ginger, we all know her films. Good work, your thread

It's probably about the saddest movie ever made.  It's "All Mine To Give" starring Cameron Mitchell and Glynis Johns as the parents of the six children.  The parents die and the oldest son, who is about twelve, is left with the task of giving his siblings away to other families at Christmas time.   It's so sad that I can't watch it anymore.

It's based on a true story if you want to get really sad . It's such a good film and yes it;s heartbreaking. Dale Eunson  and his wife Kathrine wrote the article first published in Cosmoplitan Magazine ,then the book and he and his wife wrote the screenplay for the film.  His father was Robbie  ( played by Rex Thompson) the eldest son. Yes, it's such a sad story, but take heart, I believe that the kids turned out OK.

I knew someone must have seen this film that's shown on TCM this time of the  year.  Swithin wrote years ago that All Mine To Give was shown in school when he was growing up. I'm still watching the film , TCM will show All Mine To Give at  12 pm this Sunday. Miles, it's your thread

  5. I agree, Jean is a favorite. Not to derail the thread, just wanted to Thank Dargo for the heads up awhile back for Blue Bloods.  Can't believe it's in it's 11th season and I didn't watch. I've been binge watching the series and I love it.  My boy Tom may not be the cutie he was as Magnum since it's 30-40 years later but Tom and the the rest of the cast are top notch. Thanks Dargo for turning me on to Blue Bloods ;)

    Here's a two'fer for the Husband

He was nominated for an Oscar for a film that had multiple nominations and  that film did win an Oscar for the lead actress.  He also starred in a series of films. Two of his marriages were to actresses.

One of the actresses he married usually played hard edged type characters, although a softer side was shown in a series of films she was in.

The other actress he was married to is legendary. She is known for musicals, but also excelled in dramas and comedies. Husband and the 2 Wives and name some films for each ???????????

  7. As the years pass, the couple have six children. the husband quits his job and builds boats instead so he can be at home. (hate to write this but cannot believe no one got it on the first clue) TCM shows this film and will be showing it again because of the holiday season.

  8. William Friedkin came to mind immediately and  Jeanne Moreau ??  For Friedkin, The Excorcist, Boys In The Band and The French Connection ( saw all 3 in movie theaters when first released) For Jeanne Moreau, Jules and Jim, Elevator To The Gallows and Nikita ??????????

  9. I'll give Dick Haymes and Rita Hayworth a shot ?? He was born in Argentina and Rita's father was born in Spain.State Fair for him, Gilda for her. Haymes sang with Tommy Dorsey Band and Harry James and had many hit songs and his own radio program.

#8  Lifeboat - The reason that I guessed The Birds for #8 was because Tippi Hedren wore a mink coat when she came to Bodega Bay.  Now with the last clue of gangrene, I realize the movie is Lifeboat.  The mink coat and diamond bracelet belonged to Tallulah Bankhead and it was William Bendix who had to have a leg amputated because gangrene was setting in.

Exactly and I understood about why you thought it was The Birds because of the coat, I think when thinking of Tippi the image would be in that coat but she didn't wear a diamond bracelet. I also did not repeat any of the movies that Princess used or used movies more than once in the clues.

All are answered, Chaya got 2, Miles got 10. Thanks for playing Chaya, Princess and Miles. Miles it's your thread :)

He was one of America's greatest singers, who also appeared in the movies.

She was one of Hollywood's most popular actresses during a turbulent decade.

Hint: He was a big band singer, who had a plethora of hit records.

She had dramatic and comedy abilities, but her  numerous iconic musicals were dearly beloved by her many fans.

When you identify this couple, also give one memorable movie for each one of them.

Maybe Vic Damone and Diahann Carroll ??  Vic was the Caliph in Kismet and he was in the movie Hell To Eternity and some of Diahann's movies were Carmen Jones, Porgy and Bess and Claudine ( all were memborable)  ???????

I thought I tried this on another tread, but here goes

    Scene 1 - a grandmother hires a governess/companion for her unruly granddaughter

Scene 2 - after the governess is hired, there is an uncomfortable scene when an older man comes to dinner

I haven't seen The Chalk Garden in many years, but your clues remind me of the Deborah Kerr, Haley Mills film ???

Chaya, it's time for a clue
