Actors You Didn't Like....But Changed Your Mind

When I was a kid I didn't care much about Doris Day! I didn't even care about her singing voice. I think I had a change of heart when I watched Calamity Jane on tv in my teens. I'm a devoted fan of Doris' and never tire seeing her films, in fact as many times as I've seen almost all of them, I look forward to seeing them again and again. -
Actors You Didn't Like....But Changed Your Mind

I totally agree MissW. I'd add Honeymoon In Vegas. Such a cute, funny film and he was perfect in it., ps. Thanks for remembering and the kind words about my recommendation of Eleanor in Scaramouche -
Sounds like Jim Backus. I Married Joan as the level headed husband, Mr. Howell on Gilligan's Island and Backus was the voice for Mr. Magoo. He played James Dean's father in Rebel Without a Cause. Very nice man, I met Jim Backus and his wife in the 1970's.

Wow! that's some list. Of course you're entitled to your opinion, I have to say I don't agree with any of the ones you've listed. all great actors imo.

I love Liev Schreiber. So unhappy Ray Donovan has been cancelled. It was Showtime's biggest hit. and still had a huge following. The suits decided they'd make more money streaming the old episodes it was a very expensive show to produce. Liev was fantastic as Ray. such a good actor.

"Our idea was to take examples of cartoons and then talk to the creative staff and find out what was going on here," said producer Benjamin Brady Magliano. What was going on was apparently a lot of fun. Narrator William Conrad told Magliano that the series was "the only thing I really cared about" in his 40 years in the business. This is from an article about the tv show The Bullwinkle Show (Rocky and Bullwinkle). It was an article published in The Washington Post. The link for the article is here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/tv/1991/03/03/of-moose-and-men/f007ff01-b271-4262-bbf4-dd6f941d7c9b/ Yes, William Conrad. The TV show is The Bullwinkle Show (Rocky and Bullwinkle). He was one of the assassins in the Burt Lancaster film The Killers. He also played a role in Sorry Wrong Number and Cry Danger. He starred in the tv show Cannon, it's shown week nights on ME-TV and the tv show Jake and the Fat Man. I think it's interesting that he had 106 credits to his name and yet he said that after 40 years in the business The Bullwinkle Show was the show he cared most about. I never missed an episode when it was on tv, it was a favorite. Good work Miles, thanks for the guess Princess. Miles, it's your thread

He played the heavy in films many times but in more than 1 tv series he starred in, he was the good guy

HITS & MISSES: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow on TCM
lavenderblue19 replied to Bogie56's topic in General Discussions
Not shown too often but will be on TCM Sat at 10pm, Love With The Proper Stranger - Natalie Wood and Steve McQueen -
He also was the voice for a character on the tv show. he worked on this show from 1959-1964
-
You didn't answer my question Princess, my question was who said that quote, and what tv show was he referring to. Dick Powell did not say that. Read the original question.
-
That's a good answer but not the one I'm asking about. This actor was quoted as saying "the only thing I cared about in 40 years in the business" he was referring to a tv show he was involved in. This actor was a narrator on this show. His career went into the 1990's.

I agree with you about Mel Gibson, can't stand him. I agree with you about Adolph Menjou never cared for him. I disagree about June, I enjoy her movies. Not just Dick Powell in love with her but Alan Ladd was madly in love with her and Jimmy Stewart loved working with her. I do think their personnal lives affect they way we feel about them, although there are a few on the bds. that would disagree saying they are able to seperate a performer's personal life with their careers.

Thanks shutoo, I wish that was so! LOL next This actor, director, producer appeared in some classic noir films and starred in tv shows. When interviewed and asked about one tv show that he was involved with he said " the only thing I really cared about in 40 years in the business". He appeared in some famous film noirs before his tv career. Who was this actor and what was the tv show he was talking about ?? Extra to name a few of the famous films he was in and another tv show he's known for ?????????

Help with title of movie... agent infiltrates a prison

Sounds like it's This Is My Affair - Stars Robert Taylor as the agent, Frank Conroy as McKinley and Barbara Stanwyck. Brian Donlevy plays the heavy I think -
Papa Was A Rolling Stone - The Temptations. It's such a dark, hopeless song. Mama telling the story of how papa couldn't settle down and left the family alone. The music sounds a little dangerous too. I think it's noirish
-
i don't see any problem. there are no right or wrong answers. Whether the film is a noir or a song seems noirish, it's all a matter of opinion Certainly there are definite elements in a noir and if a poster thinks that a song fits some of that criteria who's to say they're wrong. There are no black and white ( obvious pun intended) answers. Just have fun with the thread.

Princess?

You're Very Welcome Randi
-
The film is Holiday For Lovers. Clifton Webb, Jane Wyman, Jill St John and Carol Lynley. Hope that helps
-
This was a great thread missW and certainly NOT meant to be funny, it is a FUN thread though. Since talking about noirs is very popular on the threads, your thread was a new twist on the topic. Good work missW

Hi Liam, haven't seen you on the bds. in a long time, glad you're back. Yes of course it's The Bad News Bears. Bill Lancaster wrote the scrrenplay. It was a top money maker in 1976 had 2 sequels and a tv series. Yes, Walter played Burt's part and Tatum O'Neal's role was based on Bill. I'm sure Burt was very proud of his son. Great work, hope you stick around, it's your thread

Maybe this will help. A particular sport is involved in this film.
