The Essentials: The Brad Bird Era begins May 2
sewhite2000 replied to jakeem's topic in General Discussions
The title should have been Needles & Pinzzzuhhhhh -
Boy, I knew Warren Beatty would be the first person mentioned in this thread. I have to say I enjoyed Liev Schreiber doing a really good impersonation of the actor whose name you shall not mention in the remake.

Have you seen these 10 classic films..?
sewhite2000 replied to TopBilled's topic in General Discussions
Once again, I'm having a harder time with most of the older ones. 1621 might be M, which I've seen. 1626 is The Incredible Shrinking Man. Yes. 1627 might be The Pawnbroker. I haven't seen it. 1629 Looks like Natalie Wood and Ryan O'Neal. I was unaware they ever made a movie together, so I don't know what it is. Of course, I could be wrong about one or the other (or both). 1630 is The Incredible Shrinking Woman. I remember watching maybe 20 minutes of it on HBO more than a quarter of a century ago, but I've never seen the whole thing. So, only one I'm absolutely sure I've seen. I'll have to wait for the others to be identified. -
The "What A Character" Series thread
sewhite2000 replied to yanceycravat's topic in General Discussions
Unfortunately they do crack a few jokes at Beavers' expense in that film. They make her look dumb when she doesn't understand why they want her to pose as if for a box cover, and Colbert's character has some fun when she tells Beavers what Warren William does for a living. -
TCM and Other Sources for Classic Film
sewhite2000 replied to TopBilled's topic in General Discussions
I don't THINK that's ever happened for SUTS? Though I can't assert that I've checked the entire schedule for every year! For people who aren't crazy about it or 31 Days, at least one defense I can offer is they're the only two months of the year where there are no repeats. -
Maybe this more horror than noir, but ....

Oops, I got the date wrong for Eva Marie Saint I will edit above. -
TCM and Other Sources for Classic Film

Sorry to disillusion everyone, but TCM did NOT give NBNW the month off. It's smack dab in the lead primetime slot on Eva Marie Saint's day (the 29th). -
What movie would you like to see remade?
sewhite2000 replied to Colorado Expat's topic in General Discussions
You're correct about the American version of The Vanishing. They changed it to a happy ending. Funny Games, however, made by the same director, has no such change in its English language version. -
Question Re: Summer Under the Stars
sewhite2000 replied to chaya bat woof woof's topic in General Discussions
TCM does devote programming days and months to all these themes. But during the Summer Under the Stars month, I believe the days are divided strictly by acting performances. -
Have you seen these 10 classic films..?

The only one of these I've seen is The Story of Louis Pasteur. I think of all the others, the only one I probably could have identified from the photo was Throne of Blood. -
Best Endings & Beginnings in film history?
sewhite2000 replied to spence's topic in General Discussions
I can't go through 27 pages, so sorry if this is already on here. Casey Affleck's joy at being able to sit in the front seat now, Robin Williams' understated improvised line, the Elliot Smith song. -

Most of these have already been identified. I think I could have guessed the titles correctly for all the ones in the post above except for Jeanne Engels probably. The ones LSDoorMat was unable to guess, I don't know either. 1606 is definitely Funny Girl and not the sequel. That shot is from her pre-stardom days when she was still dressing awkwardly. I've seen Incendiary Blonde, Funny Girl, Frances, Man on the Moon and Ray, so five. -

Well, I've completely forgotten this foot-tickling scene, but I have seen The Great Ziegfeld. I've seen Beach Party. And my guess of Talk of the Town was correct, so I've seen four. -

1591 is The Miracle Woman. No. 1593 Ronald Colman with a beard makes me want to guess The Talk of the Town, though that doesn't quite look like Jean Arthur to me. I've seen it, if it is. 1594 is The Pirate. Yes. 1597 I don't know which Frankie and Annette movie this is. They all run together in my head, except for the first one. But since TCM shows them often, I've probably seen it. I will guess Beach Blanket Bingo. 1598 I've never actually seen a Bruce Lee movie, so I don't know, but I will guess Enter the Dragon, since it's the most famous. 1599 is Buddy Buddy. No. 1600 is Tombstone. No. I don't know the others. Maybe I've seen as few as one, but it could be a few more, depending on what they turn out to be. -
Yes. The movie might have benefited from an extra scene helping explain why they're all so loyal to him.

Wait, what did I say Brainwave? Sorry, I meant Brainstorm. -

1582 I can't think of the title, but I'm pretty sure I've seen it. 1586 is The Old Man and the Sea. No. 1587 is Murder at the Gallop. Yes. 1590 is Brainwave. Yes. I think I've seen at least three. -

1576 is That Darn Cat! Yes. 1577 is F is for Fake. Yes. 1578 is St. Elmo's Fire. No. 1579 is The Rock. No. 1580 is Hanging Up. I saw some of it on a movie channel long ago, but I haven't seen the whole thing. I have no idea with the older movies. Only two I'm absolutely sure I've seen. -

I almost guessed Mr. 880. I should be more bold I guess, except I'm embarrassed when I'm too frequently wrong. I saw it on what I think was its only TCM airing. I even said on these message boards I quite liked it and got a lot of feedback that I was very, very wrong to believe there was anything redeeming about the film whatsoever, as I recall. I was wondering who that looker was between Frank Morgan and Robert Young! She certainly never looked like that on Perry Mason, that I recall! Anyway, I've seen three. -
I have his version of "If I Had a Hammer" in my iTunes collection. He sings it with a great joy and energy. I also have a version by Rod McKuen, of all people, which is pretty good but lacks the warmth and cheery vibes of the Lopez version. I didn't know too much about him other than this song and his appearance in The Dirty Dozen, so this was an interesting read for me. I certainly wasn't expecting such a heartfelt farewell from Dave Grohl, of all people, and was completely unaware of his connection with Lopez.

1562 is Fantasia. Yes. 1569 is Revenge of the Nerds. I've seen bits and pieces back in the days when I had many, many movie channels, but I've never seen the whole thing. 1570 is The Shawshank Redemption. Yes. Only two I'm sure I've seen. I recognize most of the actors in the other pictures, but I'm just thinking of what movies they are. -
What movie would you like to see remade?

I wouldn't have minded a sequel movie, mini-series or ongoing series showing the adventures of Rick and Louis during the rest of the war. -

I haven't seen any of Arnold's really early movies and couldn't identify one from the other. Yeah, so I've only seen one. -
Disney just ended the 20th Century Fox brand
sewhite2000 replied to yanceycravat's topic in General Discussions
I must admit, I thought at first this was a thread that had been revived from January or so. I thought the brand name had been eliminated entirely way back then. I didn't realize it was just the movie studio name at that time.
