Outer Limits 1964 : "The Special One" The government special educator (alien) has some kind of device, can't recall what it looked like, that recreates the atmosphere of his home world. I always think of it like being inside one of those 'snowballs' that you shake for effect. In the episode, it looks like the alien is in a room full of goose down feathers spining in a slow vortex around him. Like being in the middle of a good pillow fight. Yeah... that's the ticket The original Outer Limits series is my all time favorite thing of all things. Anywhere. I'm always in awe of the range of imagination and writing.

I swear I didn't plan this... I've got the tv on with the sound muted. Just read the last post and looked up to see Carpenter's 'Halloween' on tv about an hour into it.. Jamie Lee Curtis is babysitting, sitting on the couch in the living room with her charge and the shot moves to the black & white movie they're watching... 'The Thing' I'm all creeped out now.

scsu1975 you nailed it! I don't recall any of those scenes but the woman's outfit and appearance hit the bullseye. Thank you.

Remembering Some of My Most favorite Science Fiction Actors ~
pastman replied to zdforme's topic in Science Fiction
The one I'll never forget is James Whitmore in 'THEM' .. That man could take any role and play it serious as a heart attack. There's almost a comedy of sorts that comes from the way he acts. He's so 'establishment' ... Especially when he's playing armed forces or law enforcement roles. Similar to Jack Web in Dragnet. So many are gone now -
Fred Astaire: Royal Wedding - 1951 Fred performs a dance routine that covers all the walls, floor and ceiling. This is the oldest film I can think of which uses the rotating set gimmick. Though I wouldn't put it past Charlie Chaplin or Buster Keaton to have thought it up first...

'Dune' Remake On the Way -- Third Time's the Charm?
pastman replied to CelluloidKid's topic in Science Fiction
I wish they would complete the trilogy as a follow-up to the original movie. It's been a little over twenty years since I've read the trilogy but I remember the original movie followed the book fairly well. I was very impressed with the worms. -
Not Robert Stack.. Robert Lansing and Teri Garr. That guy could make any show totally credible. Excellent actor.

Sometimes it's hard to nail down. Quite a bit of sci-fi is not so much -fi... Just disguise the present, change the names to protect the innocent, and voila! The Andromeda Strain, for example. It's hard to for people to accept something truly fictional without it being tied, in some way, to current knowledge. Any way you get it though... it's fun.

What are your favorite 50's sci/fi and why?
pastman replied to judycwrite's topic in Science Fiction
Agreed! And, in my opinion, one of the few movies of any genre with a sequel that equals or surpasses the original. If this were remade today it would be 90% unecessary special effects / 10% unecessary relationship ... stuff. -
I saw this in a big screen theater growing up. One of my favorites. It wasn't until years later, when I saw The War of the Worlds, it dawned on me the martian spaceships were identical. I made up all kinds of connections between these two movies in my head. It was like a third movie or a book in a series that hadn't been made into a movie.

Looking for another movie name I remember very little. Must've been around 1960 (give or take) when I saw this one. I've only seen it the one time and can only remember what I think is the opening scene, nothing else. It's black & white. It's night time and very dark. There's an empty road. Suddenly, a human form appears running down the road as if fleeing something. It's a woman. Blonde. At first glance she appears to be completely nude but no, she's wearing a full-body, skin-tight suit from the neck down (including feet) and it appears to be luminous, in a way. That's it. I can't remember another detail. Even if you know this film and tell me, I couldn't confirm it but I'd be grateful. This one's been nagging at me since the day I saw it. It's one of those things you wanna resolve before returning to your home galaxy. Know what I mean..?
