  1. lzcutter, Thanks for the links. I haven't logged onto the board in awhile and probably should have checked before I posted. It was interesting to read them. The films I watched (with the guest hosts) didn't have any commentarty only to say that they were filling in etc. Guess I missed things:) Are Robert Wagner and Tab Hunter 80 years old as one poster said? Can't believe that!!!
  2. I am not enjoying these guest hosts very much. One of my favorite things is to hear the opening/closing comments about the movies by Robert and Ben. These guest hosts have, for the most part, just said that they are filling in for their good friend, etc. Tonight, Tippi Hedrun did give a little background on the film but she was so somber and stiff I couldn't enjoy it. When Robert Wagner (one of my favorites) hosted, I am sure that he could have given us the scoop and some insight into the movies but he didn't. Am I the only one who is noticing this?
  3. Thanks for letting me know this. I was afraid that it was staring me in the face and I just missed it!
  4. Stephan55, Thanks for the bio info on Gable. I didn't know some of it. I remembere reading about his alleged bad breath and his dentures. His bad lower teeth, in this movie, really distracted me.
  5. I haven't used the message board in awhile and I can't find the spot where we used to be able to make requests for movies that we would like to see on TCM. Did they remove this option or am I just missing it? Thank you!
  6. Loved the original Mildred Pierce and the one on HBO is gettting great reviews. I would love to watch it and see how it compares to the original. I have a free trial version of HBO that is about to expire and I have been trying to find the first episodes but can never figure out when they are playing. Has anyone watched this new version? What do you think of it? *Sorry, I posted this before I realized that Mildred Pierce already had a thread going. Edited by: Gatsbygirl on Apr 7, 2011 7:09 PM
  7. I enjoyed seeing this movie last night. It has been many years since I have seen it and I thought that I remembered it was in black and white. Did they colorize it? However, I was very distracted by Clark Gabel's teeth. Everytime they did a close-up it looked like the bottom two were black. I remember reading somewhere that he had dentures but it is surprising to me that they wouldn't have fixed them before they started filming. Did this bother anyone else?
  8. Liberty Valance was a great film and I love the song by Gene Pitney. I thinkk it was done after the movie because it wasn't played during it, that I can recall. Where is all of this gay stuff coming with Alec Baldwin? I have never heard this. I am not a fan of the Baldwin brothers and hated the abusive phoone call he had with his daughter but he has had some good movies. Loved It's Complicated.
  9. One of my all time favorite movies is Broken Lance with Spencer Tracy, Richard Widmark, Robert Wagner, Katy Jurado, Earl Holliman and Debra Paget. Fantastic western!
  10. Miss Wonderly, Thanks for your response. I have tried to like her but she justs leaves me cold, and to open another can of worms, I am really not that crazy about Spencer Tracey either. He also seemd to always play the same type of character. I did like him in Broken Lance (one of my all time favoriter movies) and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. I really like classic movies, especially the noir genre, but I am not an expert on classic movies, so I am probably missing small nuances in her performance that make her special. All I can say is that Katherine Hepburn really doesn't appeal to m
  11. I am sure that this won't be a popular post but I just watched Summertime with KH and I have to say that I have never understood her appeal. I have seen her in numerous films and she just doesn't "do it for me" in any of them. Don't know whether it is her voice or looks but I just don't understand the hype about her. I know that she had a long time relatonship with the married Spencer Tracy but did she ever marry and have children?
  12. I saw Marjorie Morningstar when I was younger and it has stayed with me. I agree with you and hope they show it. I also loved (among other movies she made) Bob, Carol, Ted and Alice when it came out.
  13. I read the article and I can understand, to a certain extent, what the writer means. However, I still wish that we could sign up for x number of stations each month, pay for that and then get to choose which stations are going to be in that package. I have Comcast and they nickle and dime you to death. In order to get TCM, I had to upgrade to digital and pay for an extra box on three TVs so that I can watch it in different rooms. . Along with TCM, I got a bunch of other stations that I never watch and don't want. I just wanted TCM.. I also had to upgrade to get the Hallmark channel. They too
  14. Does anyone remember the movie The Black Dahlia with Lucy Arnez and Efrem Zimbalist Jr.? I loved it when I saw it many years ago. Has TCM ever shown it? The last time I looked, it wasn't available on Dvd. It made me so interested in this unsolved Hollywood murder and a few years ago several books and a movie were made about this crime. I would love to see this version again.
  15. I have Comcast cable and I think that I have one, possibly two, cables that hook into the back of the TV; one for cable, one for the VCR/DvD player. I just watched Mildred Pierce and I could hardly hear it with the volume turned all the way up. Robert Osbiurne soiunds fine and the nexr movie The Postman Always Rings Twice is louder. It is kind of frustrating.
