I've sometimes read that the colors used in silent films have many meanings that the public of the time would have understood - such as indicating times of day (not just day/night), emotions, locations (not just interior and exterior, but also types of buildings). But I've never found any details about this, just a mention of it. Is it an urban legend? Was it true but most directors/studios had their own language?
