Aye, aye, aye, They call her Minnie from Trinidad,
Aye, aye, aye, She wasn't good but she wasn't bad!
Yes, Judy Garland and a group of dancers performed that song in a production number from "Ziegfeld Girl". The movie also featured Lana Turner and Hedy Lamarr. There's a line in the song that goes:
"In Hollywood, Minnie traveled far, They changed her name to Minnie La Mar".
It was rather unusual to have three leading ladies in the same picture, but MGM spared no expense with this one. Cujas, you sounded so sure for a moment. You had the right year. Apparently my last clue got some folks looking in the right area. Poinciana, which is also the name of a lovely song, it's your turn now. If you come up with a good tap dancing song, then my money's on Cujas to get it!

It was an MGM musical of the early forties. The song was written by Roger Edens, who was Arthur Freed's right-hand man. Musical numbers were directed by Busby Berkeley.

Good work, Dan. You've got it all, and quickly, too! Behind the scenes people on movie crews can be virtually unknown to the average moviegoer. Just as an aside, there was a fellow named Oswald Morris at a place where I once worked. When I told him I had seen his name on several movie credits, he had no idea what I was talking about. When I explained that it was Oswald Morris, the cinematographer, he still had never heard of him. Your turn, Dan.

Eve, I have to plead guilty. When I looked at the cast list for "Deadline At Dawn" and saw the name Marvin Miller, I immediately thought of the TV series "The Millionaire", where he played Michael Anthony. And with Osa Massen also in the cast, well, the rest was easy.
Now here's someone that almost everyone on these boards is familiar with.
He Was TV's "Sugarfoot" He Played Oskar Schindler Randolph Scott Starred In "The ______ T" + Alec Guinness Was "Our _______ In Havana"
And for those of you who look at this thread but don't play, it can be as simple as the one I just posted. Just come up with a celebrity's name. think of sound-alike clues for each syllable, and give it a try. If you include a point of reference in your clues, you will avoid ambiguity, and hopefully, the respondents will be able to come up with the answer. What have you got to lose?

Thanks, Eve. I got lucky on this one. I knew you were reviewing the Warner Bros. new noir set, so I decided to look at the crew of some of them. The first one I looked at was "Deadline At Dawn". It was easy from there. Now, speaking of cinematographers, there is a well known cinematographer whose career in movies spanned six decades, not all as a cinematographer, but the last thirty or so years of his career was where he built his reputation. He started out working for Michael Powell and then for David Lean. In the 50's he became a particular favorite of John Huston. He would work for Huston on eight movies. He was very versatile, filming musicals, adventure stories, several spy thrillers, and even a movie with the Muppets. He did a couple of movies with Laurence Olivier and a couple with Elizabeth Taylor. He was Oscar nominated three times and won once, and that was for a musical. Do you know who he is?

Yes, It's Mary Lee. After appearing in a Nancy Drew movie at Warner's, she moved on to Republic and was cast in a string of movies with Gene Autry. Gene referred to her as his "Little Darlin". In the first on screen pairing of Roy and Dale, "The Cowboy And The Senorita", she played Dale's little sister. All of her movies were made between 1939 and 1945. She got married and never went back to acting. Your thread, Dan.

Yes, Buddy Rogers was a successful actor and bandleader. His theme song was, of course, "My Buddy". Now, do you know me? Maybe not because I spent most of my career in what are known as "B" movies. I was a very talented child singer. At the age of twelve, I was singing with the Ted Weems Orchestra along with a couple of other singers named Perry Como and Marilyn Maxwell. In my early teens I got into movies, first at Warner Bros. and then at another studio that specialized in lower budget movies. In the early 1940's, I was in a string of movies with a popular western star, usually playing a precocious, but talented child named Patsy. When my western star went into the army, I worked with several other stars. I was in the movie that first paired Dale Evans and Roy Rogers. I was kind of my studio's version of Judy Garland, only without the budget and the publicity. By age nineteen, I was getting tired of "playing younger" for the studio, so I left movies entirely. My last movie was released when I was twenty. I never went back. Do you know me?

Si Si, SueSue. "She's A Latin From Manhattan" was also the name of a song that was sung by Al Jolson in a movie called "Go Into Your Dance", which also starred his then wife, Ruby Keeler. You're turn!

Here one. You've all heard of the songs "Minnie The Moocher" and "Minnie The Mermaid". There is another song featuring the name Minnie in the title. It was performed by a major star in a major movie with a major cast. With all these majors, you might be thinking of "Catch-22", but there is no catch here. Can you name the song, the star who sang it, and the movie it was from? By the way, it has nothing to do with Minnie Mouse, so get that idea right out of your head!
