  1. I waited as long as I could, but no one has gotten it. I believe that it's Nigel Patrick and Charles Coburn in a 1957 British film called "How to Murder A Rich Uncle". Nigel Patrick also directed it, and it featured veteran actress Wendy Hiller, as well as a couple of up and coming young actors named Anthony Newley and Michael Caine. Maybe this thread should be re-titled, because it definitely was not an easy one.
  2. Lionel Stander He Was TV's "Sugarfoot" He Played Oskar Schindler In "The Time Of Their Lives", Horatio And Melody Are Killed And Their Bodies Are Thrown Into A __________ + Dorothy Jordan Played Marie Dressler's Adopted Daughter In "______ And Bill"
  3. This type of thing has been done a lot. Martin Sheen played Charlie Sheen's father in "Wall Street". Liza Minnelli appeared as Judy's daughter in the final scene of "In The Good Old Summertime". Alan Ladd and David Ladd played father and son in "The Proud Rebel". In "Paper Moon", it's hinted that Ryan O'Neal is Tatum's father. Diane Ladd and Laura Dern have played mother and daughter several times. And of course, we have Henry and Jane Fonda in "On Golden Pond". I'm sure there must be many more.
  4. Good work, cujas. Yes, it's Marjorie Reynolds, who, ironically, was in a western movie with Roy Rogers called "Robin Hood Of The Pecos" in 1941, the year before "Holiday Inn". By the way, and I've mentioned this before on these boards, Marjorie Reynolds was in a movie in 1940 called "Up In The Air" where her character was named Anne Mason. In "Holiday Inn", she played Linda Mason, and in "Dixie" in 1943 she played Jean Mason. Yes, the movies were completely unrelated. And since you brought up "The Life Of Riley", did you know there were two series with that name? The first one only lasted one season and starred Jacke Gleason and Rosemary DeCamp, with Gloria Winters, later to be on "Sky King", as Babs. The later series featured Lugene Sanders as Babs. Later, on an episode of Richard Diamond, Private Detective, Gloria Winters and Lugene Sanders played roommates. It's your turn, cujas.
  5. Sorry, not "Second Chorus". The actress in the movie had a good film career, but she never quite made the "A-List" of stars. In the fifties, she became a household name for her work on a TV sitcom.
  6. Is it "Monte Carlo"?
  7. Doris Day was also closely associated with "Que Sera Sera". Now, Dale Evans started out as a radio singer in the midwest. She broke into movies in the early forties. You may have seen her in "Orchestra Wives", which featured the Glenn Miller orchestra. She auditioned for a part in a musical at Paramount, but she didn't get the part because she could not tap dance. The actress who did get the part could tap dance enough to get by, which is a good thing, because she danced with Fred Asraire in the picture. Just think, if Dale had gotten the part, she may never have gone to Republic Studios and met Roy Rogers. What was the movie where she did not get the part and who was the actress who did get it?
  8. Could it be Doris Day in "Romance On The High Seas", where she sang "It's Magic"?

Guess What They Did For That Hour. + She Played Grandma In "Lost In Yonkers"
  10. That's a scene? OK, I'll guess "Buck Privates Come Home".
  11. Is it "Dr. Cyclops"?
  12. Kay Thompson Beau's Bro She Played Kim Lee In "Crash" Eddie Hodges Was Featured In "A _______ In The Head" + He Played Young Kashi in "Tarzan's Three Challenges"
  13. I answered "Ever In My Heart" because I thought it was a picture of a young Barbara Stanwyck, but now I think it's Evelyn Brent and Emil Jannings in "The Last Command".
  14. Is it "Ever In My Heart"?
  15. Pee Wee Herman - Perhaps it should be on the Walk Of Shame In "Knight Rider", William Daniels Provided The Voice Of _________ Barbara Stanwyck Starred In "The Bitter ____ Of General Yen" "Dude, Where's My ______?" + He Was The First Husband Of Julia Roberts
  16. Yes, Virginia Grey started out playing "Little Eva" in a silent version of "Uncle Tom's Cabin". She had a very nice career, but never really became an "A-List" star like Lana, Hedy, or Liz. In the late thirties and early forties, MGM seemed to have quite a few young starlets. Perhaps there was just too much competition there. Good work, Dan. It's your turn now.
  17. The Falcon And The Snowman Miss Lange Won't Sink
  18. Thanks, Eve. Rogers and Hammerstein based their show "Carousel" on the play "Liliom" by Molnar. It had been done in the twenties in New York and starred Joseph Schildkraut. Many years later, he played Otto Frank in "The Diary Of Anne Frank". Now, do you know me? I was a child actress in some silent movies. As a teenager, I got some bit parts as chorus girls in some Busby Berkeley musicals. I was a Goldwyn girl in an Eddie Cantor film, and a chorus girl in "The Great Ziegfeld" I even had a small role in a Laurel and Hardy movie. I was probably about age twenty when I finally got a major speaking part. I signed a contract with MGM. I played supporting roles in "A" list films and leads in some "B" pictures. I did an Andy Hardy picture with Mickey Rooney. I was in the cast of "The Women". I starred in a movie with the Marx brothers, and I was in a Tarzan film with Johnny Weismuller, although Jane was the female lead. Some years later, I starred with Johnny in a "Jungle Jim" picture. In the forties, I left MGM and worked for various studios. I starred with both Gene Autry and Roy Rogers at Republic. I starred with Abbott and Costello in one of their pictures. How many people can say they worked with Laurel and Hardy, the Marx brothers, and Abbott and CostelIo? I got to sing in a handful of films. I also had an on again/off again relationship with Clark Gable after Carol Lombard died and he came back from the war. I had worked with him in a couple of pictures at MGM. However, he ended up marrying someone else. From the fifties to the mid-seventies, I made a few films, including several for producer Ross Hunter, and I did a lot of TV work. I had a recurring role on "The Red Skelton Show" as Clara Appleby. Perhaps I never got over losing Clark Gable, because I never married. I retired from acting in 1976 and I passed away in 2004. Do you know me?
  19. The Owl And The Pussycat - Do you remember a basketball player at Temple named BILLY MLKVY? He was known as "The Owl Without a Vowel". I Beg You To Not Ingest The Asteraceae
  20. Gladys Cooper The TV Show "The Gray Ghost" Was Sponsored By Habitant _________ Tennessee Ernie Ford Called Himself "The Old ______-Picker" In The Fifties, Many Artists, Including Tab Hunter, Recorded The Song "Red _______ In The Sunset"
  21. I think Dan is right, except that Sondheim's music is, I believe, an homage of sorts to Bernard Herrmann, who was closely associated with Alfred Hitchcock. If we're both right, Dan get's the thread. I owe him one.
