  1. I think that you are referring to Harry Davenport and Frank Morgan. Harry Davenport, who played the grandfather in"Meet Me In St. Louis", died in August of 1949. Frank Morgan, who will forever be known as "The Wizard Of Oz", died in September of 1949 while filming "Annie Get Your Gun". His scenes had to be re-shot with his replacement, Louis Calhern, as Buffalo Bill.

Congratulations, Eve, and thank you for a very entertaining first year on these boards. I, for one, have enjoyed your posts very much, and I would bet that the other regulars here would concur.

  3. My Darling Clementine - It took a while to figure out that the gold digger was a miner. I think it goes:

In a cavern in a canyon, excavating for a mine, stood a miner, forty-niner, and his daughter, Clementine.

Now: A Cavity In The Cranium

  4. Two quickly come to mind. "Angels With Dirty Faces" and "Manhattan Melodrama. The third may not be so obvious, but what about "Star Wars" with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader being old friends before Darth went over to "the dark side". There is also the good and bad brothers theme such as "Winchester 73". Gene Autry even had a bad guy brother in "Winning Of The West".

  6. Thanks, I remember seeing the movie and the clue about feet of different sizes jogged my memory. Telly Savalas, in his pre-Kojak days, played mobster "Foots Pulardos" and Cara Williams, from TV's "Pete and Gladys", played "Sugar Pye". Now: Edward Everett Horton played against type as a decadent count infatuated with Linda Darnell in which film?

  7. Yes, Eve, you are correct. Nelson Eddy and Eve Arden were in only their second screen appearances. The former Eunice Quedens supposedly got her stage name from looking at some cosmetics and seeing the names "Evening In Paris" and "Elizabeth Arden". She was originally from your area, Mill Valley, California, and she gained fame playing "Our Miss Brooks" on radio and TV. The film also featured Franchot Tone, who would work with Gable again in "Mutiny On The Bounty" in 1935. He would also marry Joan Crawford in 1935. And one other little known fact, playing a chorus girl in "Dancing Lady" was a young Lynn Bari, who would go on to a prolific career, mostly in "B" movies. She became a pin up queen in the forties with the nickname "The Woo Woo Girl" How would you like that for a nickname? Okay, our Miss Eve, it's your turn.

  8. Thanks, Eve. The movie "Dancing Lady" starred Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, Fred Astaire, and the Three Stooges. It also marked the first billed appearance of a singer in a specialty number who would go on to have a memorable career in musicals, often as part of a team. Playing a chorus girl was a young actress who would later change her name and go on to fame in television as a wise cracking teacher in the fifties. Who was the singer and who was the actress playing the chorus girl?

  10. Dinah Manoff - Daughter

The reason I posted Tuesday Weld earlier was not for her son. Besides being directly related to Governor Weld Of Massachusetts, she is also distantly related to Dina Merrill, Clint Eastwood, and Anthony Perkins, and her great grandmother was a first cousin of Alexander Graham Bell. Now:
