As many of you know, John Ford had what was referred to as his "Stock Company". Several actors and actresses appeared frequently in his films. They included his brother, Francis Ford, Ward Bond, Hank Worden, Harry Carey Jr., and others. There was one man who appeared in more of John Ford's films than anyone else. He was a veteran of several wars. He fought in China in 1912. He served in the U.S. Marines In World War I. He also fought in the banana republic wars in Central America in the twenties and early thirties, and when World War II started, he enlisted and served with Ford, winning a silver star in North Africa. He was an acknowledged expert in military weapons, drills, and customs. Ford used him as a technical adviser for military movies. He often was cast as a drill sergeant. When they made "The Long Gray Line" at West Point, he pointed out that a pair of crossed swords hung in a display at the Army Museum, which had been there for many years, were upside down. Army officials checked and found that he was right. Who was that man?
