 Do you know me?  I was a child actress in the forties and early fifties.  It seems that I must have been typecast because I starred in several movies with dogs.    Some of their names include Wolf, Lucky, Banjo, Pal, and Rusty.  I appeared in other movies as well, including one with Cary Grant and one with Boris Karloff.  Now, do you know me?

I think it might be Jimmy Hawkins.  He played Annie Oakley's younger brother Tag on "The Adventures Of Annie Oakley" TV series.  He played a fraternity member on "The Adventures Of Ozzie And Harriet", and during the same time period he played a boyfriend on "The Donna Reed Show".  His movies include "It's A Wonderful Life", "The Sea Of Grass", and "Holiday Affair".  He is married to Lara Parker, who was one of the stars of the soap opera "Dark Shadows".

There's a new "Invisible Man" movie playing these days and I am reminded that Vincent Price played The Invisible Man twice, first in "The Invisible Man Returns" in 1940 and later in a cameo in "Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein" in 1948.  There is another actor, normally an action star, who played The Invisible Man in two movies.  I can't say he appeared as The Invisible Man, because, of course, we couldn't see him.  Can you name the actor and the two movies?

The names that first come to mind are Charles Herbert, Flip Mark, Richard Eyer, and Jimmy Hunt.  After checking their filmographies, I find that Charles Herbert is the only one of the four with close to seventy credits, so he is my guess.

You are correct, Lavender.  Bob Cummings had quite the career.  He became well known after appearing in several movies with Deanna Durbin at Universal.  That led to parts in movies like "The Devil And Miss Jones", "Moon Over Miami", and "Kings Row".  He was in two hits for Alfred Hitchcock, "Saboteur" and "Dial M for Murder".  He was even in a musical with Doris Day called "Lucky Me".  The TV series helped revitalize his career.  However, you are right about the drugs causing a tragic turn in his life.

Let's go in order.  The first film is "Follies Bergere De Paris"(1935) with Maurice Chevalier, Merle Oberon, and Ann Sothern.   The second version is "That Night In Rio" (1941) with Don Ameche, Alice Faye, and Carmen Miranda.  The third version is "On The Riviera" (1951) with Danny Kaye, Gene Tierney, and Corinne Calvet.  Danny does imitations of both Maurice Chevalier and Carmen Miranda.

Do you know me?  I started as a movie actor in the mid-1930's in supporting roles and by the end of the decade, thanks to a series of movies for Universal Studios, I became well known.  I was a star throughout the 1940's into the 50's, making both comedies and dramas..  I became a TV star in the 1950's into the sixties with a couple of sitcoms..  One thing that you may not know is that Orville Wright was my godfather and he taught me how to fly a plane while I was still in high school.  When the government started issuing flight instructor licenses, I became the first licensed  flight instructor in the U.S.   Then during World War II, I served in the Army Air Force as a flight instructor.  After the war, I served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.  Now, do you know me?

Don Herbert was also on "General Electric Theater" every week introducing the host, Ronald Reagan, and doing commercials.  He was "The Progress Reporter".  His tag line was "Progress Is Our Most Important Product".

Could it be "My Sister Eileen"?  It was a 1960 TV series that only lasted one season.  The original movie in 1942 was based on a 1938 Broadway play adapted from short stories by Ruth McKenney,  The movie starred Rosalind Russell and Janet Blair.  It was made into a musical in 1955 and starred Betty Garrett, Janet Leigh, and Jack Lemmon.  The TV series starred Elaine Strich and Shirley Bonne.  Elaine Strich and Stubby Kaye were Broadway veterans in the cast.  Also in the cast was Rose Marie, who would go on to fame on "The Dick Van Dyke Show".  Later, Elaine Strich would also featured in some British sitcoms.  Which version did I prefer?  I would have to say the 1955 musical version.
