  1. The movie is "Duel In The Sun".  The original star was to be Teresa Wright, who was married to novelist Niven Busch, the author of "Duel In The Sun".  She became pregnant and couldn't do the movie, so Jennifer Jones got the part.  She and supporting actress Lillian Gish were both Oscar nominated.  The film's nickname was "Lust In The Dust".

  2. You are correct, Princess.  The football movie is "The Guy Who Came Back".  The two baseball movies are "It Happens Every Spring" and "Angels In The Outfield".  He was a business executive in "Executive Suite", and he was offered the part of Mr. Sheldrake in "The Apartment".  When Paul Douglas died suddenly from a heart attack, the part went to Fred MacMurray.

    Princess, the thread is yours.

  3. Do you know me?  I was brought up in Pennsylvania.  As a young man I played a little pro football in Philadelphia, the city where I started as a radio announcer.  I got some bit parts in a couple of movies playing announcers, and then it was on to Broadway.  I was a large husky man who was cast in character parts.   Soon I was acting in movies.  Although I had played football and I played a former football player in a movie, two of my best known movies had baseball themes.  In one I was a player and in the other I was  baseball manager.  I played cops and gangsters equally well.  I played a business executive in a well received film, and a few years later I was offered the role of another business man in what would become an award winning movie, but unfortunately I died before production began.  Do you know me?

  4. Sorry, Princess.  Frankie Laine did not do "Mule Skinner Blues".  I think you have the song confused with "Mule Train", which he did sing.  My research shows that "Mule Skinner Blues" was actually written about 1930 by legendary country singer Jimmie Rodgers (not to be confused with the 50's singer of the same name who sang "Honeycomb").  It was recorded by many country artists over the years, but the hit record that I am looking for was done in 1960 by a duo who named themselves after the make of guitar that they played.

I have to apologize for including #10 "Poison Ivy".    I had forgotten about the 1959 recording by The Coasters.  They were certainly not a one hit wonder group.  The version that I recalled was done in 1963 by a group called The Paramounts.

    In addition to #11, we still haven't solved #1, #7, and #13.

    Any guesses?

  5. Very good, Starlit.  I was only looking for four and you named all five musicals.  Rio Rita in 1942 was early in Kathryn's career.  The others were all in the 1950's.  Thanks for doing the research.  You get to post the next question.

  6. Kathryn Grayson starred in at least four movies that were remakes of earlier musicals.  Can you name the actresses who had the same roles in those earlier films?  In some cases, there were two earlier versions.

  7.  Let's test your memory of old songs.  Here is a list of "One Hit Wonders" from the 50's and 60's.  Can you name the artist or group that had the original hit record of each song?  Remember, some of these were done later by other artists.  We're looking for the originals.

  9. Wow, Princess, this is a very involved question.  This may not be the answer because I don't come up with seven people, but maybe you can tell me if I'm close.

The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical could be "Flower Drum Song".

Broadway - Director Gene Kelly, Choreographer Carol Haney

Movie - Director Henry Koster, Choreographer Hermes Pan

The other show might be "Hello Dolly!"

Broadway - Director and Choreographer Gower Champion

Movie - Director Gene Kelly, Choreographer Michael Kidd

That's only six different people, so maybe I'm wrong somewhere.

  12. It must be Gene Barry.  He starred on TV in "Bat Masterson", "Burke's Law", and "The Name Of The Game".  The reboot series was "Burke's Law" in the nineties.  He starred in the original movie version of "The War Of The Worlds" in the 1950's, and he made a cameo in the remake with Tom Cruise many years later  He was a Golden Globe winner for "Burke's Law" and a Tony nominee for "La Cage Aux Folles".

  13. Speedy (1928)- One of Harold Lloyd's last silent films.  Harold drives a horse drawn trolley, pick's up Babe Ruth in a cab and delivers him to Yankee Stadium, and spends a day at Coney Island.

Image result for speedy harold lloyd

The scenes at Coney Island were filmed with hidden cameras so the crowd would not know that a movie was being made.
